Re: thread of 4-4-00.

I rule that WS is correct in her opinion. I also rule that everyone else's opinion is also correct. In a world with no rules, everyone is right. Its just that fucking simple.

Now. let's chill out and get on with Life. WTF is the big deal, anyways. If you don't like it here get the fuck out, bless your heart.

LOL April

Well y'know, I'm SO glad you said that 'cause I was thinking the exact same thing.

*wink*

... hey, wait a min... does that mean they just hand out these cheesy f'n shirts to the pansy-ass bitches?.... *scratches her head*

GuyJD: why are you so rude?

Not to be rude, April, just honest. I have seen threads and posts that would talk about one thing then drift into another phase. Most often, it drifts into something that was said by a fellow member and completely away from the original thread/post. God forbid should Laurel mention any particular name or story. You will then notice at least 4 extra pages of "THANK YOU" posts. Thereby creating your typical "ASS KISSING" thread. This was something that I mentioned in a thread called, "THE MOOD IS ABOUT TO CHANGE". And wouldn't you know it? I got alot of hate posts shortly thereafter because the guilty parties hated to read about themselves. I am not at liberty to announce the vast majority of positive e-mails that I received from fellow Literoticans about that. They would probably get chewed out in this forum, as well

Ohhhhhhh...Guy ;-) One day let's get together and compare notes.

TN, who you calling a pansy ass bitch?! Huh? LOL

GuyJD, I think you are rude. In another thread you called me stupid, and every post you make is in caps. It is a generally accepted internet convention that all caps is shouting, therefore rude.

*looks around*

sees only herself wearing the shirt..

Ummm, who April?

Well you don't got no stinkin' t-shirt on (Jersey accent)

huff.. puff.. giggle.. huff

Oh! That's right. I forgot. ROFL

teehee  Why does "teehee" make me feel 5 again?

Go back to that post April and you should see an apology. As for the CAPS... I only used them to either respond to a quote or as a reference factor. Again, I apologize because it is not my place to call you or anyone "stupid".

Then why did you? I'm minding my own business, playing Pachisi and monitoring the board, and next thing I know, I'm being called stupid. :(

OOOPS....I DID IT AGAIN...........

DAMN, the last time I got pissed at a post I was accused of calling Laurel a Nazi (which I didn't). I should have directed the opinionated statement towards the post itself and not the messenger.

No, 'cause then I would have been offended that you called my post stupid. Only I am allowed to do that. I don't start many, so the ones I do start, I'm protective of. Anyway, I've posted an explanation. You're the one digging up old threads, I'm sure you can figure out the rest.

MOVING RIGHT ALONG..................

Point well made and taken. Now, let's get back to the subject of the thread now, shall we?

I'll address the trolls first. :)

Some groupies tagged along on the coattails of Ambro’s slap post, but they were too witless to think of their own dig and too chickenshit to post as themselves to boot.

Speaking of chickenshits...

The troll called, “You need to be slaped,” said “I’m waiting in line!” For what? An education? It’s slapped. You have to double the ending consonant when adding “ed,” otherwise the vowel makes a long sound, and there’s no such verb as “slape.” I teach first grade, and I know for a fact that that spelling rule is part of the curriculum. So go back to grade school, take a refresher, and come back when you can attempt to insult me in proper English. Either that or find a dictionary. That’s a book that helps you s-p-e-l-l.

Hey, MP, I think you're rubbing off on me. LOL.

Here's my $50 worth. Pull up a chair. It's a long post.

Ambrosious said:
OK, I'll go though it one more time. I post quite frequently, but I am not concerned about knocking off other threads, look how old this one is and it is STILL HERE! It has nothing to do with a childish, nanny nanny boo boo attitude. If it did, I would not have laid off the board for a week as Ambrosious.

The thing that I noticed while I left the board to the serious posters, was that just as many stupid and frivilous threads were started. So I registered two other names so I could post and see what happened. What happened? Nothing, not one word was said. The second thread I started in the same day drew an attack. That was #2 for the day. Just 2. This is after starting no less than 10 under assumed identities that drew NO flack. NONE.

So that started me thinking, is it just Ambrosious people have a problem with? Why? Jealousy? Hatred? Because I make them smile? I don't know. It isn't fair, but I'm not asking for fairness. Just to be left alone. Yes, you can, you left both of my other identities alone.

Now, for the number of threads and how they knock off some "serious" discussions, are you proposing that no one EVER start a new thread. Every new one kicks another one to page 2. Or are you saying that I can't express how I feel here freely, and let the board decide which thoughts are worth commenting on. YOU may not want to know whether or not I put mayo on my sandwich (a thread NOT started by me) but obviously some do. Look at the number of responses THAT got. Self censorship is painful to me. Maybe not you, but it is to me.

And lastly, the point of bringing this thread back (sorry Madison) was twofold. First point is that the good ol' days are gone, and crying about them will not bring them back. Lit has OVER 10,000 members now, compared to 3,000 when I joined. Second point is that no matter how old a thread is, it's still here!

I keep going back to it, but NO one has yet to explain WHY 3 DIFFERENT people cant post 4 threads daily, but ONE can't start 9 threads. Why is that? Why? I am really trying to understand your position, and understand why seeing my name pisses you off so badly.

That is where I am coming from, I hope it clears everything up. Once again, I am trying to understand YOUR position as well, it just makes no sense to me. Sorry, but it doesn't.

Ah...eight months ago. I remember this thread. Fortunately that little board mechanics oversight WH mentioned cleared up shortly after my polite request. Time was that newbies would come to the BB and get the lay of the land first, observe the dynamics of the board and how the members interacted with each other. They’d blend in with the group after they realized what kind of behavior was the norm, what was polite, and what was annoying. Oh, yes, once in a while shit happened. I remember when Siren blew her mouth off constantly, but people got on her case, and she realized that she was being obnoxious. After that, she became one of the funniest, wittiest, sharpest members of the board. It’s too bad for you that she’s gone.

Some newbies still attempt to blend in. I can see them starting their “Hi, I’m new here” threads. They’re hesitant, wanting to be liked. I welcome them. Most of them understand how joining an established group works.

But Madame Pandora is right—people learn by example, and lately the overwhelming example is threads about undiscriminating personal stuff that would be better discussed in IMs. We’re all entitled once in a while to announce something exciting, like the birth of a baby. That makes me happy too. But when every single hour we’re subjected to people announcing that they’re going to go take a shit now, or they’re out of milk, or a dog just walked on their lawn, we become first, maybe mildly amused. Then we move on to “not again.” From there, you progress to, “Oh, come on!” And finally you get to the point where you can’t remain silent anymore.

I’m flabbergasted that some of you don’t realize how self-centered this makes you appear. It’s as if you’re the sun and everything revolves around you. You assume the fact that your hair grew a millimeter is going to be as interesting to the thousand other members as it is to you and the four or five asteroids in your solar system. But, there’s a whole universe out there. (MP and I are separate people. DUH. But, still, it's sort of Twilight Zonish that we both came up with planetary comparisons.)

Here’s what should happen. You should sign up to ICQ or MSN’s or AOL’s Instant Messenger, all of which are free. Get your buddy lists established. Then, when you see your friends are online at the same time you are, go talk to them! It’s a helluva lot more expedient because it’s real time. You can all even have a conversation together, like a private chatroom. That’s what most people do out of consideration for the other board members. The name of the damn thing is the “Literotica DISCUSSION Board,” not the “Literotica Chat About Your Day Board.” If you want to chat about your day with your buddies, do it in IMs or keep it to one thread, but don’t clog the board with that stuff. It’s rude.

People will try to turn the tables on me and accuse me of being self-centered by trying to mold the board into My Perfect Vision. They're entitled to your opinion, even if that isn’t the case. A lot of other people finally made their feelings known too.

They're also probably going to continue the way they have been and not do as I suggested out of spite. That’s their choice. People will recognize the immaturity of that passive stubborness.

<glances at Ambrosious> Oh, that’s quite amusing, that “Still want us to slap you?” comment. <snorts derisively> Still, I truly respect you for at least using your real handle. It baffles me too why you, who can indeed be very witty, resort to purposely bothering people with the board equivalent of a Congressional filibuster. I think I could like you if you didn't piss the hell out of me.

Now, as for your experiment with alternate identities…No one jumped on you, because we all thought that they were of newbies. People can tolerate a little stupid shit from someone new or from someone old for that matter. The problem is that you and The Following do it ad nauseum.

And, of course, every new thread kicks an old one off the board. Again, moderation is the key. That’s the nature of the board. But fifteen+ threads a day, updated every hour, minute or second by The Following, create a tidal wave that cannot be withstood.

The argument has been: Who cares? Just go to pg. 2 for Christsake!

The problem with checking out threads on pg. 2, etc. is that when you post on a pg. 2 thread, you’re automatically brought back to pg. 1. Then, you have to keep going back to pg. 2 to find your place again.

I only refrained from bemoaning the good old days because it was cliché once upon a time. I abhor being cliché. However, that's how I feel and I don’t apologize for it in the least. When I found this BB almost a year ago, people were talking about the good old days then too. There will probably always be people who long for the “golden age,” and each person’s version of what the “golden age” will vary.

As Ambro pointed out in his “How have you changed” thread, people change. How the board affects you depends on quite a few factors, but it’s probably going to take more than three months to realize that the change has occurred. Really, it could just be that the board morphed, as it does. It’s a proven fact that it goes through cycles. It could be that the board is the same and you’ve grown away from it. More likely it’s a combination of both. There aren’t too many really old timers, except for Dixon, still hanging around. (Remember the Week of Bliss when the pointless stuff miraculously disappeared like a much-anticipated Christmas gift? Well, that week DCL was very active. However, now he's gone again. I think he realized that when it all started up again that it was impossible to singlehandedly battle the volume of junk. I think maybe Melody could bring him back though.) So perhaps everyone at one time or another just eventually leaves the board because somehow it ceases being what it "used to be" for them. I'm leaning toward being one of them, but I'd really rather stay. I'll stop complaining if some of you just tone it down. Take some of it off the board to IMs. That's really not that much to ask.

Now, flame away, “slape” me <laughs snidely>, ignore me. I most likely won’t pay attention to you unless you take the time and effort to explain your position like a mature adult. If you’re going to just say, “Oh, crap. There she goes being boring and bitchy again,” then save it. If that’s all you can muster up in your defense, you’ve just exposed yourself as incapable of rational debate.

You didn't know, whisper? I Writernapped Dixon. I'm keeping him all to myself, no more dixon for anybody. He's mine, mine, all mine I say; And I'm NEVER bringing him back.

Muahaha! :D;):D

I can see your point but what about newbies who do not know people yet or the poor souls like myself :( (also a newbie) who use the companies computer and cannot have an IM service on the computer?

I am not saying we should post we are taking shit either but if I am going to discuss something with other posters I have to do it on the board, IM's are not an option for me and some others, and more people can join in on the board.

Melody Lane, you give him back! If you don't share, me 'n Madame Pandora will have to wrassle ya in that melted chocolate for him. (Blue's arranging it all.) I'll kick (or is that lick?) your little Jennifer Lopez ass! LOL <winks>

Snoopy, you misunderstood me. I'm not suggesting that you completely substitute the board with IMs. My point was that some topics are better kept off the discussion boards.

And for people who are posting on the company's computer, I will assume that you're visiting Literotica during your lunch hour, or you're a deditcated, salaried employee who isn't held to a strict timetable.

However, if not, and you're wasting company time, knock it off! You're paid to do a job, not fuck around at Literotica. Sorry if this sounds santimonious, but I have little respect for the dishonest shirker who is doing little more than stealing money from his employer.

Madame Pandora

Sorry it took so long to get to this, busy weekend.

Did you ever work for Clinton? I haven't seen a spin job like that in a while. Spin job? Yes. You managed to take what I said and twist it to redirect the topic. How? Here, I'll show you.

I said self censorship is hard, I NEVER said anything about people trying to censor my posts. Not once! I said "Self censorship is painful to me..." That was it. Good job turning it into a spin that made me look like an evil person spouting hatred. Galileo, indeed.

Then, you resorted to name calling. That got MY attention real quick, as I am supposedly the "childish one". Well, I guess when your position falls through, resort to name calling. The names I'm reffering to are "child" and "inconsiderate". I feel that someone who calls names, like a bully in the playground, is the childish one. And as far as inconsiderate, I find it inconsiderate for someone to come into a good party, turn on all the lights, and start debating the benefits and negatives of the Holy Roman Empire, or some such. You find me inconsiderate, I find you inconsiderate.

And another thing, I would NEVER consider name calling, but especially to someone I have only known a week or two.

Thank you for responding, though. It made my weekend. By the way, I do not have a short attention span, and will not be going anywhere. Sorry to ruin your week.

WS, I will respond to you in a few hours, after digesting what you have said, and good post. No name calling, I respect that.

Let me add myself to the list who finds your behavior inconsiderate, Ambrosious. Every other poster who's taken a side on this serious vs. silly debate has at least made some honest efforts toward conciliation and recognition of the viewpoints of the other side. You repeatedly thumbed your nose at your critics and kept on thread-starting at a breakneck rate.

Look at this thread for example: You started this fight by digging up an 8-month old post of WS's with the offer to "slap you in the face" and now you're taking a position of moral rectitude and complain because Madame Pandora criticized you? And you accuse her of spin?

I hope you do come back later and respond intelligently to WS' thoughts, but I'll believe it when I see it.

<splutters> Geez. I'm turning into one of those old fogie posters, aren't I? Just slap me if I ever start complaining about "the good old days."
smile.gif

Still want us to? :)

Since you seem to have a hard time with facts, I didn't offer to slap her, I asked her if she wanted us to. And again, you've missed my point that all threads are here for perusal, and you never lose a thread. Thanks for your opinion, and your misconstrual of what transpired.

And I'm the one with the short attention span?

And I will respond, just give me time. WS is one of the few in the DOGPOUND that I respect.

I can not believe that intelligent....

adults, as you all are, can not simply agree to disagree and get on with your lives. I have read your posts on this thread and I do not believe that there is any one "correct" answer. You all are entitled to your point of view. The fact that one of my "dumb" threads, (eg. The toilet paper thread), may garner more responses than my "serious" threads is just the market place speaking. The fact that my "dumb" thread may send my "serious" thread into oblivion is just a function of the way this BB is set up.
I can live with that, and until there is a rulng by the site owner that only allows for "serious" threads and forbids "dumb" threds, I will live with what we have. Candidly, I can not see that this BB would allow censorship by a 3rd party as that would defeat the whole purpose of being here in the first place.

Here's my proposed solution. Live and let live; if you don't like a thread, skip it. If you disagree with it, either ignore it or respond wihout personal attacks. If you find that one of your threads is being moved off page 1 or 2, post to it and the thread will move up again for all INTERESTED to read. Or, keep on arguing about who's right and who's wrong and remain stuck where you are. ( I'll send you a bill later).

BTW, not that it really matters, but I have noticed that the "average" thread gets about 10% of its readers to actually reply by posting to the thread. This % has remained consitent since I came onto the BB in 6/00.

So, Ambro and Nightlight, post away to your heart's content. And, detractors of "dumb" posts, continue to complain, but try to make your position clear enough for all to understand. Clarification and/or thank you's MAY best be done by email, not on the BB.

Love you all,

blue
