Tattoos

tattoos makes you look like a whore and a douche, but i guess if you're already one to start with then i guess you can't out do yourself?

I object to being called a whore. i always do it for free.

By that logic, you must have sleeves.

One thing i will say to anyone planning to get a tattoo, you will have to learn to put up with negative opinions like those expressed here with good grace and confidence, because some people are just naturally rude and stupid neanderthals. I catch shit about mine, but it rolls of me like water. I did what I wanted and am a happier person for it. There are always gunna be people who are narrowminded.

To you nay sayers: Please try to remember that an opinion is an opinion, not a fact. Confusing the two shows ignorance.

Whatcha got, Sheila?

i was talking with a tattoo artist the other day, and he told me that the newer inks are chemically designed to be easier to remove later in life. the color quality suffers in the long run, but if you are young, it may be something to consider asking about.

as far as my two cents go, make sure you do the research on the artist who will be doing your tattoo. normally, the more experienced the artist, the higher the cost, but it is money worth spending on art you will have forever. (or until you laser it away)

i've thought about doing a large piece, but i think i'm going to wait until i hit 50. if i still want it, i'm going crazy. :D

Bout forty including facial (a pattern of small dots, kind of looks fey), neck and scalp tattoos. Most of pansies and violets but I have some words including the first haiku I got published.

Are you of the ilk that's willing to share pics? Ever since I got mine, I've been fascinated by other people's tats.

i have 11 tatts, and am about to get my 12th.
all of mine have a special meaning relating to a special person or event in my life.

as for being ready to 'to learn to put up with negative opinions like those expressed here'.... my personal comeback is....

"oh my god, you're wearing a red/yellow/whatever colour shirt! i HATE that! can't you change - just for me?!"

Coolio. Some of my tats are on this thread: http://forum.literotica.com/showthread.php?t=687455

There is a kind of natural curiousity that develops isn't there? I am so tattooed now that I have started to get 'the nod' from other very heavily tattooed people and I occassionally scare small children. There was a little boy in the supermarket who was literally paralysed with fear at the sight of me. His mum had to carry him away. It's funny cause I am utterly harmless.

Another good one is " Where i was brought up, its still considered rude to make negative comments about the appearence of strangers..."

I have a policy on staring too. Kids can stare any amount they want; they are naturally curious and I am weird looking. Fair enough and they mostly delighted by my strangeness. But for adults, I have a thirty second limit on a stare and then I stare back. If you have to turn around to stare at me, you're overdoing it. The western part of NSW is still quite conservative and when we took my son on holidays two years ago, I actually had whole groups of people stop talking and stare in one town, following me with their eyes and that was before I got facial tattoos. The funny thing was that teenagers and old grandmas loved me. I got compliments from both these groups.

I like the facial dots. I'm skimming that other thread now. I just saw the description you wrote. Sounds pretty cool! I see JBJ hasn't changed his tune...

Thanks. They were inspired by a native american dancers I saw (not a rip; they actually look nothing like what they were wearing but theirs seeded my mind). They were my last tattoos. I can't have anymore done because of my diabetes. The tattoo before these took four months to heal. I miss it already.

That man is physically incapable of anything as useful as change. He likes to blame his age but my husband is around the same age (69) and he has learnt to go with the flow. The fact he confuses opinion with fact does shit me a little. His pronouncements that because he said it, it must be fact are a little like stating that an elephant is a mouse and firmly believing because you said it, it must be so. It's still a fricken elephant, you're just an idiot with a shakey grasp on linguistics.

Oh, that's too bad. 'Splain me about the funny-named symbols on your neck please?

...or taxonomy. Yeah, that's a good description.

I employ a lot of people and I have declined to employ a fair number based on their choice of tatoos. I'm not anti tatoo, but remember that tatoos advertise your personality, which can be both positive and negative.

well i'm a female. i have a tatoo on the back of my neck of three sepperate yin and yangs intertwined in a triangle :) it hurt really bad but payed off because its beautifull

Fair enough. I think it goes both ways though. It is unlikely that I would be happy in a job that couldn't accept me for exactly who I am, crazy and all. I figure the tattoos sort that out for me.

The rose nearly my ear is modified tudor rose. I kind of messed with the idea of mackintosh roses from the glasgow style school of art nouveau. It was popular in stained glass.

In the middle of my chest is triquetra. It is a symbol both of Christianity and Paganism. This wikipedia article can describe it better than me. For me, well I am kind of obsessed with the number three in my art both visual and written.

this one is actually rather wonderful...

I originally wanted a dragon backpiece but got talked out of it.

hmmm interesting about the inks. my tattoo artist said he chose his inks because they are the most stable over time. maybe there is a distinct difference in brands?

Also more £££ doesn't equate to better work. I went round a lot of tattoo shops in london in the summer and every single one of them charged 4-10 times what mine charges. now a lot of that is because of higher overheads, but seriously, some of these guys could not draw to save their lives, and the youngest ones charged the most, no doubt influenced by people like kat von d charging $3k per hour.

I waited 30 years to get mine and I love it. it is worth the wait, plus I have the confidence to carry it off now I'm older. It also allows for some fabulous exhibitionism and pervy moments, like recently I was swapping ink with a (minor)
celebrity and a major international academic (who's also super-hot) walked in and there I was being held still and inspected by two hot, super-intelligent men. yes, I did wet my knickers!

so there are some tatts that you think are OK? even if I had very visible tattoos, the stage I'm at now with my work, I don't think it would really matter as long as my face and hands were clear.

If you have to get opinions on whether or not you should get a tattoo, of what, and where...my advice would be to Absolutely Not Do It.
It's very personal. It's for you and no-one else.
Do Not Go Cheap.
That being said - I have two. No regrets.

Oh. And I am proud to say, I don't think any less of non-tattooed people.

on my car is a sticker that says 'the difference between those of us with tattoos and those of you without, is that we don't give a f@#k if you don't have any.'
