So I'm reading a Yahoo news story, and there's this ad in the middle of the page. It's advertising Launch's Emerging Artist of the Month. Okay, fine, no problem. Here's the kicker. Her name is Nivea.

What? Was her mother having a dry skin attack while she was struggling to find a name for her daughter? She named her daughter for skin cream? Oh. My. Gawd.

That's sad.....I know a hippie-wannabe couple who wanted a palendrome for their son's name, the called him Siriiris! Poor kid!

i know what you mean~i was disappointed with the name by best friend gave her baby...but after getting to know the little guy the past nine months he really is a little fortune.

That is so sad. Don't parents give serious thought to their kids names anymore? Elementary school kids are absolutely vicious in that regard. I know from experience.

I saw a show on TV last night about the late lead singer of INXS. He named his youngest daughter (now being cared for by Bob Geldorf) Tiger Lilly.

I had a friend when I was younger named "Toy". He was part of the Army Rangers..a rather tough guy. I guess it's like that Johnny Cash story "A boy named Sue".

I know one former hippie couple who named their son Free.

Now a 30yr old man, his pick up line is... "Hello, I'm Free".

It works well too..

I actually like the name Tigerlily. I'm weird though.

I know a girl who works at the grocery story her name is mignon just like the steak and she will tell ya thats her moms fav meat why she got that name I was like OMG ppl think about this these kids are stuck with those names....I have both a native american name and white mans (NO offense) name and so does my son we don't use them on a reg basis though....mine is Rain and his is Freedom both given with much thought but some of these names they are coming off with OMG. :nana:

I've always liked the name Margaux and the story behind Hemmingway giving his daughter that name (A very fine French Red Bordeaux wine).

i like Tigerlily too... i've actually got a cat named that, but then, she's a cat, she doesn't care what she's called as long as i feed her. :)

But i don't really see anything wrong with it for a child, Lily for short... i've always like that name.

Actually, Tiger Lily is the easy part of Michael Hutchence's daughter's name. Her full name is Heavenly Hiraani Tiger Lily. In my opinion, though, she got lucky... she has three sisters named FifiTrixibelle, Peaches and Pixie.

A waitress at a local coffeeshop was named Chlamydia

All I could think of was, "I hope she washes her hands."

As a neonatal intensive care nurse for decades, I have a 5 page list compiled of real baby names. Some just hurt your feelings.

One of my favorites involved a mother who wasn't sure of her baby's paternity, Marvin or Julius. So she named the baby Marvelous.

I met a woman whose name was Fuh Mah Lay (That's how you pronounced it.) Come to find out it was spelled Female. Her parents didn't know any english when they came here and had her. They saw the part on the BC that said Male or female, and thought female sounded nice. Named her that. Thank goodness they didn't name her Mah lay/Male.

A few years back, we had this rinky dink little apartment, and the girl who moved in below us was named Echo. Pronounced how it's normally pronounced.

At our next apartment, we met up with a fairly 'free' spirited couple who named thier daughter Alegra (it means happy in spanish).

My dance teacher in high school named her son Aspen.

There was one girl I knew through an ex, and she had 2 children: Alexis Mercedes (after the cars), and Destiny Rose.

hmm.. I know I must have heard some other strange names in my time, but none come to mind.

Not that those cars were named after girls or anything

*lol*

i know a girl named oalani~we call he "oo~ee" for shor.

theres also the infamous "fuchs" surname.

It's common now, but back 10 years ago, when I went to school with a Hunter, there were just way toooooo many jokes to be made. ;)

And yeah, Alexis and Mercedes were named for girls, BUT, she specifically named them for the cars, stating that since she knew she would never get the cars, she might as well name her daughter after her favorites.

Our daughter's name is Raegan, but she goes by Rae, however, most people ask if it was after the president, which it wasn't.

Names like Free or America and other "hippie" names don't bother me but naming your kid after a company that makes facial products is just wrong.

I remember a comedian many years ago who had a routine about names that are just wrong. Went something like..

This is my son Acne and I'd like you to meet my daughter Syphallus...

My parents didn't think about my initials--let's just say I've got the same problem as Felix Unger.
