Mika blinked just as she heard the door shut behind her and a familar voice say, "Whew that was close. We almost didn't get her back in time." Mika quickly walked to her beside and pulled out her journal. She checked the latest entry Oct. 5th 2054. She looked at her watch. Today was Oct. 7th! She was missing a day again. She knew something was up. This was no longer a coincidence. She was sure she was losing her mind. She had to tell her father. Mika turned to the door and hesitated. She wasn't sure, but she had the ominous feeling that she was NOT to ever leave this room. That was absurd. Mika has come and gone as she pleased before, but why now did she suddenly feel anxious?!

Mika glanced down at her journal and read the last line with a growing horror. "... I don't remember yesterday again! I think I'm going crazy. I'm going to go straight to bed and in the morning maybe it'll make sense." Mika flipped to Sept 17th, the most recent entry where she was missing time and just as she thought she went to bed after journaling. Mika flipped to each entry where she was sure she was missing one day and sure as shit each and every time she had went to bed. She never, not once had tried to leave the room, not until morning. Mika's heart was pounding. Even now she wanted to journal this insane revelation and then crawl into bed. But not leave the room. Why? Why did she never leave her room and why was she suddenly scared as shit each time she thought of leaving the room before morning.

Mika walked slow agonizing step by step to her door. She was determined she was going to walk out this room, but her heart was pounding and she was gasping for air. Twice she had to stop and only once did she have to turn her back and slowly breathe or lest she was afraid she would pass out. She could not figure out what was wrong with her. Why was she like this? Mika finally was at the door and she was in tears. She grabbed the doorknob, turned and opened it in a rush similar to pulling off a band aid. As soon as the door was open she instantly felt relief. She visibly sighed unsure what the fuck that was about. She definitely had to tell her father.

Mika's room was on the 2nd floor of a ...what could only be described as a mini mansion. Mika rolled her eyes as it had to be huge. It housed the servants from the cooks to the maids and even the people who worked with her father the Governor of Galatea. It also housed what she thought was a small army to protect the family from any raiders or people from Outside. That's what they called outsiders. Ever since 2042 after the Great War the world kind of went to shit. Technology was lopsided being mostly with vehicles and computers, but weapons have reverted back to the old years with swords being the weapon of choice, followed by longbow and then bow, staff, etc. The technology for guns being annihilated and wiped out though there were rumors there were scientists out there trying to recreate the lost art. Hell, even she was trained in self-defense in how to use a knife; though she was clumsy and Mika was good at using her brain and how to read a situation to escape. She was often encourage by her trainers to think of alternate ways than to fight head on.

She took the tube to the other side of the house. The "tube" was like a giant chute with a number pad. You punch in the number of the corresponding "exit" and then you step into the chute. Depending on where you're going you could be sucked up or free falling before you are placed on your feet of where you intended to go. You had to bend your knees right when you felt gravity return which is why the tube was not recommended for children or the elderly. It could shatter their kneecaps. See! Technology was great in some areas and in others thrust back to the stone age.

Mika gingerly stepped out of the tube and looked towards the right where her father's office door was cracked open and light was pouting into the darken hallway. It was weird as she was used to seeing at least two armed guards on this side of the door, but there was none. Mika walked quietly up to her father's door and was about to push the door open before she heard her father say her name shocking her into not moving especially when she hard how hard and cruel he said her name. "I assume MIKA is back in her room. It's done?"

"Yes, your daughter preformed wonderfully as ever."

"Tool you mean," her father's voice laughed as Mika realized he meant SHE was the tool.

"She is exquisite," said the unfamilar voice speaking to her father. "Where did you find her again? It's a shame she's the only successful candidate from the project. Are you sure we can't get more?"

"I told you," Mika's father said in annoyance, "...Mika's real father was a researcher on the project and said it has to do with the brain pattern. There's a less than 0.1% chance of someone having the perfect set up. You can't just find someone and train them like Mika. They have to already have the right ... brain wiring for it. Mika is a rare find and we discovered her at a very young age. This is how we're able to put so many personalities in her and add more as we see fit." Her father (... no Mika realized with horror this man was not her father) laughed cruelly and the other man joined in. Suddenly her father's mirth stopped and his voice grew cold and sharp. "She is one of a kind. The only one. So do Not. Ask. Again."

He's not my father?! What happened to my real dad. He said WAS a researcher. Does that mean they killed my dad? What about my mom? How do I not know these things? Even as Mika tried she could not recall ever having a mother. She wondered why this thought had never occurred to her before. What did he mean by personalities? She had .. different personalities? Mika was trying to figure that out. As much as she knew she was Mika - quick thinking, hard working, clumsy but charming, cute Mika. She didn't know what that could even possibly mean; add personalities?!

Suddenly the door opened and she was staring with shocked eyes at her father who face went from a hard stare, to shock, to a softness that now looked fake. How did she not notice that before? "How did you leave your room?"

What a weird fucking question?!

"...Mika, baby girl are you okay?"

Mika nodded and walked quickly to the tube. She could hear her father calling her name, but she practically ran to the tube and pushed the number to exit closest to her room. Right before she got off she put the coordinates for a bunch of other places and put her hair scrunchy in the middle of the floor to tie up the tube so no one could use it for at least the next 10 minutes. Mika quickly grabbed a bag she had kept packed in case they were ever under attack and had to make a quick get-a-away. Mika wasn't sure what she was going to do, but everything in her told her to run! Mike pulled her thick hair into a high pony and put a cap on it, then she dressed in all black and put on her most comfiest pair of sneakers. This was real life. Not a movie.

Mika took the route from her room, down the side of the house, through the brush and out a side hole only she knew about. She used this way to sneak out to go party and drink with friends without her dad .. no Mika shook her head. She wouldn't think of that man as her father. The governor. ...without the Governor finding out she had snuck out. Time was running out. Mika ran and ran and normally she would have been out of breath and gasping for air, but it felt like she was really in shape and for a moment she thought that she was running differently. It was like she knew when to breath in and out so that she wasn't over exerting herself and could get the most distance. Mika was a bit perplexed before she chalked it up to adrenaline from running away. Just because she made it out the house didn't mean she was home free. She still had to leave the city and get at least a few miles away before she could breathe a sigh of relief.

It was morning when Mika finally relaxed enough not to jump at every sound. She had exited the city hours ago with a wave to the gate guard. She was afraid he would have stopped her, but the news either hadn't traveled that far or the governor wasn't coming after her ... yet. Actually, there was no guarantee he would come after her, right? She wasn't his real daughter and .. honestly she wasn't sure why he kept her around ... maybe something about those personalities? Mika didn't know, but she had a plan. While she had been freaking out trying to figure out how to leave the city she was also trying to figure out her next steps. She realized she desperately wanted to find her real family and find out what happened to her. So she was going to the last place she remember the Governor had said he worked before the Great War and became the Governor. She wished she had taken a hoverbike, but she was going to take the less traveled road as she didn't want anyone to realize she was on her way to Mountain View, CA. She was sure the Google building had to be abandon and maybe she could find out what happened.

Outside the Simi Valley Area, Peter was a researcher with a research project he had worked on years ago with some people. He received a call on his phone that a familiar voice rang in. "Mr. Silvi, your test subject has ran off. I require your presence here post haste!" The man had screamed over the phone. Peter tapped his fingers on his desk and started to recover his own files through his fabricated computer filing software with a bit of few tweaks he had to tweak himself.

He looked at the file of the test subject of his to signal the subject's override code. "Memphis." The research development pointed Peter to the project that ran off and started to read her book. Peter had began to say the amalgation's override reset command. "Memphis" where the test subject reset her previous command, reverting back to her base persona. "0835, Dr. Peter Silvi recording the further project we had created. The subject has her persona resetted by an override code. Her creation was premature and must be put a new persona inhibitor." Peter said into his recorder, finishing recording his own testing and data recording log.

"Take her back to the lab and install a new persona inhibitor." Dr. Silvi said to one of the lab assistants. However, the research of his was set to be interrupted by a well-known man and his call to him. His office assistant called him. "Mr. Silvi? Your Excellency is on the other line, shall I patch you through?" She asked him over their phone line. "Of course Margaret, patch me through." Peter takes the call and speaks. "Ah, your Excellency. I assume this is no private matter?" The man had called Peter for his work on his Daughter, only to tell him the subject has ran away.

"What!? She's ran off!? Your Excellency, I can assure you, that finding your daughter is my upmost priority." Peter said, smoking a cigarette as he sat at his chair behind his desk. Perhaps was their creation from years ago however on request by the man dubbed as "The Governor." Peter went back into his computer to find out what has happened with his trusted creation. Although she wasn't just a creation, but a gift for the Governor. He started to read her files, especially has a chip with a tracking light as he looks at her file. Starting to click "Track" on the computer. He had the Governor on mute so he had said this to himself.

"Prepare my hovercar. I'm tracking down "Galatea" herself before the "Governor" does." Peter said to his assistants of his lab and secretary before he heads over to the hovercar to start searching for "Galatea", Dr. Silvi's project.

Mika kept walking half asleep her body moving on auto pilot. She was far from the city and if anyone was to come for her it would take them at least half a day to catch up with her now... even longer if they were further from her home. Mika stumbled and looked around herself. She was deep in the woods taking a straight shot that didn't allow vehicles to traverse through the brush to her destination. It was the reason why she didn't take the hoverbike. She was sure if her father sent the guards they wouldn't be able to follow her through here on the bike and then if they're walking they'll have to track her. Brilliant she groggily thought to herself.

Mika heard water and she rushed to it. She hadn't thought to pack food or water. Her water bottles were all empty as she hadn't actually prepared for this outing. She saw it was a freshwater river and she gave a quick thanks to the heavens. She ducked her head under the water and the cold water woke her up. She put the water bottle in the water and it instantly purified the water. She shook it for good measure and then took a big gulp of the refreshing water. She was still on her butt, in the water, drinking her fill when she heard a tiny growl. She looked over to see the cutest little mega-bear. "Oh, it's a baby .. oh shit!" Mika instantly stilled. Where is mother mega-bear. It didn't take long before a sniff behind her. Mika turned and there was a 20-foot bear not even on its hind legs. Mika knew that was the wrong move. She screamed. The bear got startled and it roared back at her. Then Mika crabwalked back as it stalked her and then she was falling. A waterfall.

Mika half swam and was half drug through the current to goodness knows where. She finally thought she got purchase when a huge tree slammed into her head. She was knocked instantly out. Luckily, she was washed upon the shore she had been clinging too. At least she finally got that rest she needed.

Mika awoke with a start. It was dark, she was cold, and shivering in the water. She barely dragged herself out of the water and onto land. Her clothes were so wet and she lost her pack. The waterbottle strap was wrapped around her wrist and was actually cutting off circulation. She patted her pockets. She had a small knife, her lighter, and the small baggie of weed was now a small baggie of water and the one joint was soaked and in danger of breaking. Mika walked over to brush and pulled off her shirt and pants. She was finally able to set some wood on fire and get it going. She was half amazed she knew how to even build a fire and what was needed, but she figured it was all the training and/or tv shows and movies she watched. She slept as closed to the fire as possible. Mika awoke listening intently. She thought she heard something. The fire had died down to embers. She quickly got up and pulled on her clothes. They were a bit damp, stiff, but was better than being naked. She knew she wasn't going to be able to go back to sleep. She kicked the dirt on the embers and began her escape in the dark.

Peter drove his hovercar around the area from his laboratory from Simi Valley, using the tracker that he had programmed in the "Governor's Daughter" was one creation that even science would bastardize the poor bastard in. He held the datapad in his hand as he put the hovercar on autopilot for him to focus on the whereabouts of his amalgam that ran off from the Governor's.

He started to light up a cigarette for himself since he was dealing with the Governor, and he was not a pleasant man to deal with. Especially if his "daughter" ran away from his humble abode. "Ah, my Galatea.... My most intricate creation......." He said, smoking his cigarette as the autopilot of the hovercar started to follow the tracking dot. Normally, his driver, Morgan would take care of this as she was a usual driver for him and his private car. However, in the name of science, he was driving the hovercar with autopilot alone.

Peter's flashback played in his mind as he was taken to his amalgam which was tracked. "Don't you see........ This is the life you were only made for...... Prepare yourself, Dear Galatea....." He smoked the cigarette quietly and began to drift away from that thought. "The Creation, dubbed as "Galatea" was last tracked near a national park. Time from Destination, 13 minutes." The automated voice said to Peter as he smirked.

With that, Peter was sure that he was gonna get to the amalgam first since he created her. He started to enjoy the autopilot over to the national park she had been last tracked at.

Mika watched as the sun rose and was high in the sky. She wasn't quite sure where she was at since the fall. She needed to gain her bearings. She exited the forest certain no hoverbike can enter the forest. It was too dense with too many trees that would cause the bike to crash. She was certain that for now she was safe. She rested against the trees watching the sky. She was free. She took a deep breath in and exhaled.

She could do whatever she wanted. She didn't have to listen to anyone or act in accordance to how a governor's daughter should act. Mika smoothed out her hair, split it down the middle, and braided her hair. After about 20 minutes she felt she was adequately rested and began her trek through a field. The grass was high and she realized, actually it was after she had stumbled that if she was on her knees the grass would conceal her. it was a great hiding spot and it actually spooked her. Anything could be hiding in this grass.

Mika pulled out her knife and quickly walked through the field feeling as if there were eyes on her. She almost ran as she exited the field and came upon a great big wooden gate with a sign Vatican City that was open letting in and out visitors. She saw armed guards looking over the people who were entering and exiting. Inside was like a huge bazaar. She walked in and wander around and when her stomach growled she found a food vendor. She traded her ring for 1 warm bowl of soup, a to go bowl of soup (for later) and a lager. She greedily ate her soup as she wandered the city that seemed to have some sort of religious connotation. Back home they didn't believe in religion so this was all so new and exciting for her.

Mika listened to conversations as she strolled. She learned she was vastly off course by only a few days. She didn't hear any mention of her name or the Governor so she felt pretty confident she was safe here for now. She had also learned that there was some trouble brewing in the city and Mika had the feeling she wanted to get out of her sooner than later.

Mika found an inn and was able to get a room for the night by giving up her scarf. She was given a single bed with a small bedside table, a lamp, and a small table with a chair. It was suitable and smaller than her closet back home. It didn't matter. She pulled the single chair to the door and hooked it under the doorknob so even if the knob turned the door wouldn't open. She looked out the window and saw it was a few stories up. She could probably hang off the ledge and fall the rest of the way and would probably sprain an ankle at most. Either way she felt pretty safe here and could get a good nights rest and keep traveling.

Peter got out of his hovercar as he pulled out his datapad that kept track of his creation. However, as he got over to the national park, the tracking device played a fool's errand with him. He pulled out his cell phone to make himself a very important call. On the other end of his, he was greeted with a man's voice as he spoke to Peter. "Mr. Silvi, to what do I owe this call?" The man had asked him.

The man that was on the other end of Peter's phone? Brack Edmonds, the man who had worked with him on the Project simply known as "Galatea" as well. "This isn't a social call, Brack. I'm here to inform you that the tracking device you had graced the project known as "Galatea" with went cold." Peter said, holding a blinking device that still shines as he walks around the national park. He also notices a hoverbike that had no entry into the forest. "Brack, I'll have to call you back. Give Debra my love." He said, closing his phone and examining the hoverbike and the trail from it.

"Interesting...... It seems that "Galatea" finally shows her cards....." Peter said, smirking as he began to follow a few certain clues around the hoverbike and started to head over to see a wooden sign saying Vatican City, it was open and letting visitors in. The guard at the gate stopped him. "You there! State your business!" He said to Peter. He clears his throat, holding his datapad like a clergy's bible. "I am but a simple clergyman, travelling from Neo Little Bethlehem to the grand Vatican City." He said, with a slight smirk of Charisma from his mouth. The guard nodded and said to him. "Neo Lil Beth, huh? I got a cousin who lives there. He married a nice girl, Jessica over there too." Peter kept up his facade for a while to gain entry and find a way to "Galatea" who was here. "Alright, I'll let you in. But no trouble!" He said to Peter, who assumed the name of Father Galfini.

Peter returned to his search for "Galatea" in the new land that had been established. His hunt was closing in.

Mika laid on the bed sprawled out and groaned loudly. She was free and here she was bored out of her mind. She turned her head right listening with all her might. She opened the window and could hear all kinds of laughter, talking, and music. She blinked. Was there some sort of carnival happening? Mika turned and went to the door. She decided to leave her pack by the foot of her bed and opted to grab a hooded shawl wrapping that around her shoulders and pulling the hood down low. Mika walked down the stairs and on the ground floor was a lady behind a stand with an assortment of masks.

"Are you going to the Festival? You'll need a mask as it's the day when heaven and hell grant a truce and we all drink and be merry. Come, come, look at what I have."

"Heaven and Hell ... call a truce?"

"My dear you don't know the story? It's the one day where good and evil blend together. Demons are your friends or your lovers." The lady swept her hand over the reddish masks that all looked on the spooky side. "Or maybe you want to have a nice good sweet angel who'll rain flowers down over you as he kisses you sweetly." The lady swept her hand over the gold and white masks.

Mika picked up a mask that looked like it had been broken and put back together haphazardly. She was immersed in the half red and black half white and gold mask. It was a bizarre yet intriguing mask. "What's this?"

"That! Oh my stupid boy broke 2 different masks and then try to mashed them together into one. How did that even get up there?"

"I'll take this one." Mika said loving it. She heard a small cry of glee come from behind the lady and she saw a small chubby face smile. Mika was looking for what she could barter with, but the woman looked down behind her at her son's face.

"Take it for free. It's priceless as i could never put a price on my son's 1st creation." The woman smiled broadly. "... now his 2nd one that is a different story."

Mika exited the inn with the mask firmly in place. She realized she looked like anyone else now and could enjoy the festival. Mika giggled with glee and let herself get pushed along with the throng of people to see dancers, jugglers, and lots of vendors. "Amazing," she said quietly to herself.

Peter's search for the amalgam was put on hold due to a festival where "Heaven and Hell dance together for this one night". He was met with a man that sells his own daughter's creations where her masks were something to live with rather than without. "Please Mister. My child put in the effort and time for creating these masks." He said to Peter.

He took a look at his wares and masks. "And don't worry, I give a fair discount for people of clergy." The man said to Peter who was still under the assumption of the identity of Father Galfini. "Here, take this mask." He said to Peter, showing a nice purple hued mask which signifies a demon vibe as the man's wife looked at him. "Rafael, you can't be serious. That's not the mask for someone like him." She said to him, showing Peter a gold hued masked with a gold chakra vibe. "Gee Lilith, why don't you just cut both masks and splice them together like a half mask. Masks of Dark and Light?"

With what seemed like 4 to 6 minutes of arguing, both Lilith and Rafael agree to splice the mask and create two masks from the creation of the both masks into a new half and half mask each. Peter decided to pay for both of the new half and half masks. "The first one is free for you, Father. The second one? Well, it's 3.50." Peter ended up paying the 3.50 by giving the man a 5 dollar c-note. "Thanks for the business, Father."

The mask was finally acquired as Peter started to put his mask on. He pulled out his datapad once more, this time the tracking and beeping turned yellow signalling that "Galatea" was closeby and in this humble abode no less.

Mika had a glorious time eating and drinking and dancing. She had watching in awe as a puppeteer retold the story of this night of Heaven and Hell. Said where the demonic princess fell in love with the angelic prince. She knew he would never love her if he knew, so she escaped to Heaven and played and danced with her love. However, when it was time to go home he was confused when she wouldn't ascend higher. The demonic princess could go no higher as she was only allowed so far before she would be struck down and killed. Instead, she kissed her angelic prince and descended slowly to his horrorified and shocked expression. However, the prince returned her love and flew down to get her, but her family having witnessed the kiss renounced such a torrid affair and pulled her faster and farther than the prince could come.

However, on a night like tonight, on this eve when the barriers between Heaven and Hell mix and blend the two lovers can be reunited once more. It was later when Mika was at a bar she heard there was another tale. A tale that was similar to the cute kiddie one she had watched earlier. Where both Heaven and Hell sanctioned the love. Then demons and angels frolicked together, they just couldn't interfere with humans. But there was a love affair it's argued if it was He who cheated on Her or Her who cheated on Him, and during this time when the lines blurred there was a murder. Again it was argued if it was He who killed Her or Her who killed him. Which is why sometimes violence could happen on this night as well.

Mika shivered at the thought and exited the bar. It was later than she thought and she was bit drunker than she thought. She wasn't drunk, she was just feeling the alcohol. Her mask was in her hands and her hair was free and blowing in the wind. She was hot and ready to go to her room and... Mika stopped and turned. She thought she heard something. She turned back and put her mask on as she headed back to the inn.

Peter had sat at the bar who was listening a tale which alluded to Romeo and Juliet but with demons and minus suicide. Perhaps an allusion to the grim tale of Persephone and the Pomegranate. He sipped his bourbon drink he had requested. The datapad was making an interesting sound with the beeps. Perhaps the datapad was giving out the signal that "Galatea" was nearby.

He pulled the datapad as the red blip was going off but was changing to yellow, signalling a loss of the target. He couldn't be able to help see the masked individual going by and exiting to her room. He proceeded to exit the bar himself while returning to his own quarters. But not before he headed over to the front desk to speak with the concierge. "Excuse me, but what room was the girl that passed through in?" Peter had asked the front desk clerk. She politely answered. "I'm sorry, I cannot disclose that information."

The desk clerk had told Peter he couldn't be given that information by her. However, Peter then added. "Can you relay a message to her for me then? Tell her that Peter Silvi would wish to see her. And to meet him in his room." The female desk clerk nodded and began to write the message on a piece of paper to her to give to the masked female who retired to her quarters.

The female clerk began to head over to Mika's door, while knocking on it softly. To give her a message from Peter Silvi.
