Stuck on a scene? Just plagiarize!

Sad we didn't have this kind of condemnation and outrage when there was an entire group of authors manipulating contests and wreaking havoc with one bombing and cheerleading. That was no problem

But this, well this should be grounds for execution!

Priorities....

What about "tit melons?"

Someone had to have invented that.

More amazingly, others read it and thought "I can use that."

I'm fond of "Eyeing her like a starving man would a steak."
Has anyone else used this? If not, I'm trademarking the fuck out of this and when you realize what a great line it is, I'm getting a royalty off all of your views.

So there.

Good luck with that.

I swear to god, I thought Tilan (or whatever his handle is) made a rude comment to me when I was here earlier, but I don't see it now.

Many folk don't seem to realise that the site watches the forums, and will purge shit before it festers.

Quotes stick around though. Even when you delete the original message.

Pff. I feel like the pretty girl that everyone pulls on her braid to get her attention.

I deleted my own comment, ******, because I got the name of the movie wrong. I claimed that your line is not original but taken from a Jack Nicholson movie.
I'll buy you a special pin to hold the lobes together.
I delete all my comments after a while. I don't want to leave incriminating evidence proving that I enjoy abusing the helpless.

Luckily, they are still committed to free speech, so no one is going to save your sorry asses.

Happy New Year!

So what you're saying is just like you don't allow votes, delete any comment you don't like, you also remove posts so people can't respond to them either.

Like to dish it, but not allow anyone to give it back is how you roll.

At times, I, and I'm sure others here, have said things that looking back maybe weren't the right thing to say for whatever reason. But we leave them there because end of the say we said it, and people with actual backbone can deal with the consequences of their words or actions.

I bet you're the type to sucker shot someone in the back of the head then run.

Well, this one wasn't as rude as many of his were. But, I'm glad they took it off. I really only glanced at the last one.
Problem is, like everything else here, the site doesn't have a true rule about what should be deleted, its whatever the whim of the site or mod is on that given day.

Look at this thread/topic. There has been far nastier things done here than what 8letters did, and with far less repercussions.
One of the most self righteous squealers in this thread is a creeper who slides into female posters DM's and made up an obviously underaged imaginary friend and have 'her' say little kid things in posts here. Only stopped because I kept riding them on it, now they have me on ignore, but they don't play that game anymore.

BTW, I think the subject of this thread is a total dink, and I wouldn't defend what he did, but I will point out people need to put it back in their pants, because they're the same people that have turned their back on worse.

I'll admit it. I'm not above cheap shots. I hate myself when I do them, but don't delete them when I go too far. Still, I usually try to be civil most of the time.

Put those who you instinctively react to most on Ignore, and never be tempted to see what they're saying this time (you won't need to, because other reactions will tell you), and your life becomes far easier, more restful. And you won't miss a thing, because they've only got three records.

I think there was a good discussion to have been had about what I did. What are the rules for plagiarism for professional writing and how applicable are they to amateur porn writing? I think what I did was minor compared to other stories I’ve seen on this site. It’s minor compared to what a lot of politicians have done. I didn’t take from another story its plot, its premise, any of its characters, any of its plot points, any of its scenes nor any of its dialog. I think what I did wouldn’t have been discovered if I hadn't be open and honest in my extended author notes about how I wrote the story. Even knowing I had used another author’s words in my sex scene, no one could find on their own what I had used. Shouldn’t the response had been to ask me to rewrite the small portion of that sex scene that was borrowed from another story? How could I rewrite those ten lines to keep the flavor of "A Girl Named Mitch" so it wouldn't be plagiarism? But we didn’t have that discussion.

When this thread started, I thought that all my contributions to this forum, the statistical analysis I’ve done, all the writing advice I’ve posted, the 20+ stories I’ve published, the contest I’ve won, and having a story in the I/T HoF would get me a lot of the benefit of the doubt. I was wrong.

If someone had said, “8letters, this is bad. You’re a good guy and a good writer. Take out those ten lines and write your own,” I would have happily done that. But it was all the purity police swinging their silver hammers of outrage, dragging me over the coals for six pages. Well, now you have a scalp - I’ve deleted all of my stories. Literotica took their sweet time in deleting my stories - I requested they all be deleted on 12/30.

Thursday, I created this thread offering to do a service for my fellow authors on my way out the door. Reading the replies, I kept getting the feeling that so many of the posters had hearts several sizes too small. It confirmed for me that there was nothing I could have said on this thread that would have made them happy.

This captures well the attitude I felt from the purity police:

Good luck. All I know about you is this thread, which is perhaps unfortunate.

I’ve never read your stories and I’m not that interested in stats in general, so I can’t honestly say I’ll miss your contributions, but it’s always sad to see writers leave. Hope you find whatever you‘re looking for.

Pull your head out of your ass. You needed someone to tell you this? Really?

Oh no! Anyway...

According to the OP (as I read it, one for your beta readers) you were given that opportunity, but apparently, didn't respond.

I'm not sure why you think plagiarism is okay in some circumstances (ie, yours), and why the things you mention should get you a hall pass.

I can get all the information on Literotica associated with your stories. PM me an email address and a link to your submissions page, and I'll email you four text files: a list of your stories with more statistics than what shows up on your Works page, a list of all the comments on your stories, a list of all the similar stories for your stories, and a summary of the gender and orientation of your commenters per their bio.

It took me a while to get these scripts right , and I'm very proud of my work. Of course there's no charge. Just credit me if you post the stats.

I accept that you didn't realise there was a problem with this, and that you didn't realise other writers would have such objections, or presumably you wouldn't have posted about it. I believe that if you had realised what others would think of it, you'd have made different choices. Sometimes people fuck up without ill intent.

It’s minor compared to what a lot of politicians have done. I didn’t take from another story its plot, its premise, any of its characters, any of its plot points, any of its scenes nor any of its dialog.

I'm not going to comment on the "other people have done worse" parts of this, but you actually did take a line of dialogue. Granted, only six words and not exactly Pulitzer material, but very clearly taken from "A Girl Named Mitch".

I think what I did wouldn’t have been discovered if I hadn't be open and honest in my extended author notes about how I wrote the story. Even knowing I had used another author’s words in my sex scene, no one could find on their own what I had used. None of us get to make that call, because it's not our stories you took. If you wanted to negotiate that kind of solution, it was 100% on you to make contact with JCMcNeilly and the other author whose words you used, and figure out something that was acceptable to both of them. Until you can get that permission from them, you don't have permission, and AFAIK nobody who's participated in this thread has any authority to give it on their behalf.

You did though. Not from everybody, you've been around here long enough to know this forum doesn't do unanimity, but several of us - me included - found it hard to believe that you'd done what you said you'd done, until we saw the texts side by side. At that point, I said what I had to say about it, and then I continued participating in at least one other discussion with you. You didn't get unpersoned. But those things you list aren't "get out of jail free" coupons.

If someone had said, “8letters, this is bad. You’re a good guy and a good writer. Take out those ten lines and write your own,” I would have happily done that. That's a choice you get to make, but let's be clear that it is your choice. Especially since I notice from your bio that you've pointed your readers here for an explanation. You "scalped" yourself, nobody else (and in particular, not the person who tried to resolve this issue with you in private before raising it here) made you take your entire archive down.

When this thread was started, your contributions DID get the benefit of the doubt from some people, including me. I wasn't prepared to accuse you of anything until I saw a text comparison. Bramblethorn did the comparison, and it was clearly plagiarism. Most of the people in this thread did not ask for you to be punished. They just wanted to see the plagiarism acknowledged and rectified. That's hardly a call that warrants describing thread contributors the "purity police."

I'm sorry to see you leave, because you made many valuable contributions to the forum and many readers, including me, have enjoyed your stories. I hope you find satisfaction elsewhere in continuing to write and publish.

You made a valuable contribution with this final episode, if in an unintentional way. This is the most detailed and useful discussion of the subject of plagiarism in this forum that I've seen since I started contributing six years ago. I think if you had approached it that way, taken your lumps for the copying, gotten rid of it, and moved forward, everything would be just fine. It's too bad.

I wouldn't weep too much, if he doesn't have an alt here, he will do soon. Seen it over and over here.

I don't think I've read any of your stories, as you probably don't write the stuff that I usually read. That being said, I would like to offer you a friendly advice. I am not an experienced writer or really a writer at all, but I do have a certain life experience that I feel like sharing. The crowd here at AH isn't a nasty bunch. It is not a great bunch either. I found that it is very much a regular Internet bunch, although more educated on average and kinkier in general, which makes sense, considering. You will find assholes here, you will find some really kind and helpful people, you will find pretentious people... once again, a regular Internet crowd in my experience.
That all being said, your actions seem... immature to me. Sure, people have judged you, as you have admitted to plagiarizing. Some, more than few maybe, have jumped on the bandwagon and added some mockery to it, as it seems to be the custom on AH, once again making it a regular Internet crowd in my opinion. So why on earth would your reply be to delete your stories? Surely, you haven't written all your stories because of AH crowd, to become a part of it? Surely, you have done it to put some of your creativity out there, to offer some free erotic stories for people to enjoy and maybe give some scarce feelgood feedback in return?

I would understand giving them all the finger here and defending your actions in a sense that you don't feel it was plagiarism. I probably wouldn't agree, but it would have been a legit move. I would also very much understand owning your mistakes and editing your stories, thus eliminating the problematic parts and apologizing for doing it. Anyone who would give you grief after that can always get that same finger. But deleting your stories and running away practically... Whom have you hurt by doing that? Your readers and yourself, but certainly not anyone from AH. Internet doesn't remember for more than a few days, so your 'protest' won't mean much, if anything at all.

Now on to the actual advice. Edit your stories and rewrite the right parts and then republish them here for you and for future readers to enjoy, and then continue to write, if that is what gives you a sense of satisfaction and enjoyment still. I hope you will do that. If you feel you don't want to write anymore, or at least not this type of stories, or you want to try yourself as a professional writer, then go ahead and do that, I wish you best of luck.
Bottom line is, it is quite ok to leave Lit behind, but only if it's for the right reasons. Feeling unappreciated by the AH crowd is really a terrible reason to leave Lit, to delete your stories, and stop writing.
