Anyone who has been forced to examine their identity and needs, work out the whys and wherefores and come to some sense of comfort in themselves will have taken a step towards mental health at least.
If someone is so vanilla, so cis minded, so convinced of their own normalness that they've never ever thought twice about themselves-- That person could be missing a big fat chunk of their mental health and never noticed.
But you know what, not too many people are actually all that.
In your fantasies, who is giving up control, you, or your partner? It's funny I should come across this thread now. I was reading Nancy Friday's Beyond My Control, and, as I read some of the fantasies that spoke of being the submissive, it got me a little curious. I mean, not like getting whipped, clamps, clothespins, or mousetraps type of submissive, but simply being controlled, willingly giving up control, strangely, sounds liberating to me. It sparked a few fantasies for me, actually.

That would be me giving up control, like, during sex, or maybe even in other situations.

Giving up control definitely has its perks. I'm that kind of girl too. If only I could find a man that knew how to take it. lol
I'm kidding of course. I've had some wonderful partners.
