Spacebar 3.0 >.<

Morning Spacer's. Dumpling you are always so busy but still cheerful.

Azul, it looks like you and Tiamo had serious conversation last night. She's a a fun person who enjoys life.

Shmily...How about hose Cub's?

SA...stay out of trouble and don't be racing the boss man...

I will listen to half of your advice lol. I still need a rematch with the Lead Supervisor, I am competitive and he talks a lot of smack.

Good morning Spacelings :)

It's a bright and beautiful morning here in California, though I was slow rolling into it, having tossed and turned the night before with dreams of being stuck at the DMV. (In my work, one of the things I do is figure out ways through, under, and around corporate bureaucracies - it's endlessly entertaining, it's like playing a game of chess where everyone invents their own rules, most of which sound reasonable, but aren't.)

I kind of live and work in a world of high pressure nail-biters. Because it's what I am good at, I get brought onto a wide variety projects when either they are on the verge of failure or they've already failed once. A lot of times they get in trouble because they set unrealistic deadlines and failed to listen to their own people - the old "I understand the data, but I'm going with my gut on this...". That works if the person has a good gut instinct, but inevitably fails when you're dealing with hard math and engineering tasks - you can't change the laws of physics Race!

The last nail biter I had was spinning off a division from a Fortune 100 company - everyone was working in a nearly complete information void due to the lawyers over interpreting the confidentiality agreements. We were trying to integrate a suite of major systems - think of it as A to B - except the confidentiality agreement forbid team A from talking to team B. We made the best guess and took the shot in the dark without having confirmed it would work until go live. Fortunately, we had some great guessers.

Tiamo, Azul: I think one of the places where the online world excels is in connecting people who otherwise would be disconnected - people with social issues, health issues, and geographic issues. It's incredibly powerful there. For me, what impresses me with people I meet online is those people who always move with kindness and compassion (and you both fall in that category). Oh, we all have our human moments - but recentering back to kindness as the default position is what makes the world a better place.

Soul - LOL - I worked at a company many years ago where one of our co-workers was a former NFL player (he had one year, played in three games, and got cut). But, he was, in a sprint, one of the fastest people I ever met personally. We often had young and fit coworkers who were brash and would want to race him - so we had a lot of great after work races in the parking lot, and no one beat him while I was there.

Dumpling - good morning! I hope your day goes well.

Shmily - that was quite the game, I ended up watching it all the way through. Go Cubs.

Starry - hope you're getting a chance to rest! You had one busy weekend.

Paul, I've found true professionals in their career of choice generally have the level of experience to correlate past experiences or findings into other projects at later dates. A lot of problem solving is simple recognition of similarities and tying multiple solutions together.

That's one of the important aspects of a competent careerist or professional mentoring others with good potential. It's a mixed bag of course because no everyone is altruistic enough understand that good deeds are their own reward.

IT and programing work draws a unique class of people to its folds who are still in the process of reshaping how business will move foreword. We live in interesting times.

tnman - yeah, I would agree. What separates the wheat from the chaff in a profession and career are three things in my book - successful professionals are always learning, they know and have subsumed the basics of their profession, and they're flexible (good at managing change, good as recognizing when something doesn't work and possess enough tools to change tools when needed).

We've only scratched the surface of technological change, with the next big wave being in the fields of data science and intelligent agents (AI focused tightly on one specific body of knowledge). It's an exciting time if technology excites you.

Fun love physical activities.

Originally he was challenged by 2 gym rats. He's older but they didn't know he used to run track. They would clown and their was a big build up. They all backed down. They all we're talking trash, but no race. The next day after no action and lots of talk, I challenged him lol. I am a big guy so everyone assumed I am slow, I almost beat him lol.

Peeks in...
Man Tuesday kicked my butt. I was on call for the 2 - 5 am shift but not needed in the end. Then it was get things ready for the welcome home that night & catch pictures / Live broadcasts from the trip all day to share out. Then load the truck with ice & water, do a dinner meeting then set up the airport at 7. I had 3 SO teams from 3 counties, 3 PD teams from local cities, I had the medic group from my AF base plus some Navy people who also showed up. I had to be the bad cop at the TSA line to make sure the guardians were hauling the Veterans stuff so they hands were free to shake, salute or hug but... It was the smoothest one yet.

I was hurting so bad from just the running around, not carrying anything heavy, my meds weren't even touching it. My PTs looked at my shoulders & my newest one is in better place then the older one. So my new homework is busting butt on the older shoulder to get them even.

Tonight I get to see my new apartment & get the moving time line set up.

I hope everyone has had a great week! :rose:

Starry - once you get moved in hopefully you'll get a window to just relax and enjoy the new place!

Soul - that's how it would start where I was working, people would start talking about how fast they were (and I am sure most everyone would shave a couple seconds off their actual time). Then, ego's would kick in and challenges would be issues, with smack talk for a while, then the show down. It was all in fun, though every now and then someone would lose and come out with a string of reasons/excuses and demand a rematch...only to lose again. It was entertaining. I've always been middle-fast. Faster than some, slower than others.

Good morning all. :)

*starts coffee*

That was a very dramatic game 7 last night. It took one extra inning and it was a nail biter until the end. So here's my question. When did you experience a nail biter of your own?

There is life without nail biters???
lol... I am old enough to remember those. Just not had any in a long ass while.

I'm hoping once I clear veterans week I can finish packing, get moved in then survive the full body cast part.
I'm trying to look at it as new year = new life.

I ran some when I was younger then life happened, now its mostly walking and hiking. Once all the zombie apocalypse nonsense started a lot of joking took place amongst co-workers and such as to who'd be zombie kibbles. All I ever did was smile and let everyone laugh about it. When asked I always said I'd just walk away from trouble as quietly as possible. Finally one clown asked how I'd get away walking when the rest of them were running. I just said how do you know you'll be the one running? And then I smiled. There was a new topic the next day.

I often joke that is how I learned to fight. I am too slow to get away by running so I figure no sense in fighting winded. (LOL - truth is though, I can be a hundred yards down the street before a person decides what to do. If you have to think about fight or flight, you'll be thinking by yourself because I learned the secret of not getting hurt a long time ago - RUN.)

Good morning. :D

Many of the nail biters I have had have been personal in nature. Things like making sure Thanksgiving dinner was done prior to certain folks arriving and making sure certain bills are paid are not on the same league as that baseball game. There have also been some at the shop I currently work at when we are trying to reach a deadline or move a large cumbersome part. It's not as exciting as the game for sure.

So today I'm going to go in a different direction. My football team has a bye this week. So they get something I rarely get at times. What do you enjoy doing when you have time off?

Good Morning all Spacers,

Just want to say this is an amazing thread with great people on general. Only thread I feel comfortable and could have no drama, talk with women and converse with fellow men.

Good Morning People :) TGIF well for most of us anyway;)
so what are you Guys gonna be watching now that Baseball is over;)

smiles quite often I rush trough here, so the only way to catch me, would be if you trip me ;):D

If I do I'll surround the floors with soft pillows.

Sports wise concentrate on football . I pay attention to basketball and hockey, but I am into and watch more football.

There's a lot of backstory to this thread but one of the primary motivators here has been being nice and speaking to one another. There's some jealousies on lit where "if you talk to them I won't talk to you" take place. It's something the core posters here consider unpleasant. So, the friendly and courteous things you see here are genuine.

I will continue this tradition and respect the rules handed down from generations(right now we're on the third, so I mean the spacebars before and current) of Spacebar threads.

Good morning Spacelings :)

I'm not a big watcher of pro sports on TV, when I do, it is usually in the company of friends (like the final series game). They'll pivot over to football now, then hockey.

When I have time off, I like to get out and do "stuff" - for me, that usually translates into either hiking in the country-side or urban hiking. I also enjoy crawling through museums and galleries and lately I've taken up street photography as a hobby, which involves hours of wandering around waiting patiently for a good to great shot.

Soul - yeah, I like the tone of this thread, and the conscientious efforts by people to keep it friendly and civil. There are pockets of drama on Lit that I simply prefer to avoid. I jokingly tell people I got out of high school a long time ago.

Hi Dumpling! (I've grown fond of Dumpling's zooming by)

I just graduated a couple days ago LMAO. I have turned over a new leaf and leave it all alone. I enjoy peaceful, fun and sharing my opinion.

Soul - LOL - congratulations on the recent graduation! :)

I'm all for passionate discussions about differences of opinion, but when it comes to spewing hate and discord, I just step back. People disagree on things. People have their reasons for disagreeing. If a person wants to have a passionate discussion to explore a topic and widen their understanding (and maybe develop an understanding of why other people believe what they do), then I can be all in.

If general though, in life I've learned that everyone believes what they believe for a reason and the best way to understand that reason is to simply ask them. In their minds eye no one sees themselves as a villain. Everyone thinks they have the right of it. It's the challenge that comes in life - two people can experience the same event, side by side, and come out of it with radically different conclusions.

Being possessed of a boundless curiosity I am more interested in how and why, both because it illuminates the other person and because it illuminates me, aspects of myself I may not have recognized, not deeply contemplated.

One of the things I like about the online world is this is a venue of almost pure thought and it's incredibly revealing, intentionally and unintentionally.
