I agree....hell as an armed citizen myself I avoid all I can, I know how that ends, been there and I don't need the hassle nor can I spare anymore sleep.

I think 911 operators CAN get pretty accurate information.

They can....but they can't always, that is what limits their legal authority and why they send cops to put eyes, ears and boots on the scene.

At the very least maybe they could offer advice about the consequences of taking matters into their own hands.

Things in real life happen to fast for that. Besides it's every citizens responsibility to know the legal consequences of their actions.

Of course. In most confrontations, the odds that your attacker will chase you if you run are very slim. The odds that something regrettable will happen if you don't are very high.

If I thought I could get away I would do that and contact the authorities.

If it was an unarmed 17 year old I would defend myself with non-lethal force until I could get away.

The the person was a serious physical threat and I couldn't escape I would use lethal force right from the start with whatever means I had.
