Social security as welfare program

It sounds like by the time I'm eligiable, benefits will be means tested. If you've sacrificed and saved for your retirement, they will probably say you don't get as much money regardless of how much you paid in.

It was not supposed to be just another welfare program, but based on what you paid in over the years.

What you get is what you put in plus a lifetime of interest. Hardly welfare in the general sense.

Welfare is a dirty word. They should never have put it in the Constitution.
