Isn't that basically like a giant fuck you to Native Americans?

Seriously, why isn't what this guy DID taught about in schools?

No, it's not really taught, at least when I was there but then again I was also in the Native American program so we didn't really get into it. I don't believe that my kids' schools really celebrate the day anymore either. I also live in a state with a very high Native population so that might skew it.

We're making up for all that bad shit pretty soon by renaming the Washington Redskins. Maybe.

And theres an Amsterdam museum fulla 3 headed babies, so whats your point?

The point is that unions have as much to do with Columbus Day as your Amsterdam museum.

The first recorded ceremony celebrating Columbus' voyage was in 1792, 300 years after his famous first voyage. Colorado (huge union state that it is ) became the first state to officially celebrate Columbus Day in 1905. It was made a federal holiday by Franklin Roosevelt in 1937, Congress changed the date to the second Monday in October in 1971.

The Feds and unions celebrate it.

I love Columbus Day!

I'm taking the long weekend, including Friday afternoon and Monday, for a drive up through NH to catch the leaf show and Dartmouth/Yale with the family.

It's good to be the boss.:D
