It alarms me how irrational people become in the face of impending danger, making rash judgements on the character and motives of another humanbeing. Prejudice, which comes in many forms, blinds the same in any situation.

If I hear "he's probably a Muslim" one more time today, I think I'll shoot somebody.

I hope he or she is caught soon as well. What bothers me is people who know nothing about the situation or the reality behind these murders, catch-phrase dropping like they know *exactly* what is happening. It grates on my nerves.

The point being, lets hope the powers that be are open to every culture, job, race, religion, etc., etc., etc. being a suspect and not just one or two.

You are certainly a kinder gentler soul than I cuz I'd just as soon string the fucker(s) up and toture them in a public square. Especially if they are to blame for the latest I heard about taking the 13 year old kid out as he got dropped off to school.

From the little information I've seen on the victims, I'd seriously best against the sniper being Muslim -- At least two of the victims were people who "looked muslim."

I'd not be surprised to find that the sniper is some "uber-patriot" picking off people he thinks are muslim. Possibly some vet suffering from PTSD who thinks he's making the world safe.

If I were going to profile any group as being involved in this, I'd be looking for a redneck, NOT a muslim.

Seriously, though, what I think we're seeing with these crimes is as close to the perfect crime as can be found. The victims have nothing apparent in common, nor do the locations (with the exceptions of the Michael's stores). The only real common trait among the victims is that they were in a public place dong somthing that tied them to one spot for some length of time (mowing a yard, waiting at a bus stop, gassing up a cat).

The perpetrator(s) used a rifle, which means they could have been anywhere up to several hundred yards away. They have the advantage of being able to find a location, make it secure, and wait an indefinite amount of time. They're taking public access routes with only a moderate amount of police presence (which is my reasoning for why the shooter(s) haven't gotten very far into Southern Maryland. There are only a couple routes in or out which are reasonable to take and the access from there into VA is via a toll bridge which has a police department attending it). They're not in any particular hurry, as evidenced by there not being a shooting over the weekend. The witnesses, such as they are, don't really have the chance to see or hear anything constructive.

The suspect(s) are being very patient, very careful, and very discreet. If that stands true, I'm not at all sure how they'd ever be caught, short of bad luck.

Nah.

The pefect crime is the crime you can commit without getting caught. Letting motive come into play only increses the likelihood that you'd get caught. Stealing money is a great motive and leads to all sorts of suspects. Random killings are apparently motiveless so the police don't have a suspect list from which to work.

And you gas up a cat so you can get around. Those Persians get great mileage!

The "round" .223 is a very common one in good old everyday hunting rifles.

As far as anyone knows this individual could be uding a single shot weapon. The bullet on this round is basically a .22, except that it is on a larger cartridge for higher velocity.
