After the snake tempted Eve, God got mad and dished out punishment.

My Bible is not open as I type this, but the punishment for the serpent was that he would have to wriggle along on his belly from then on.

Maybe the snake deserved it - that isn't the point of this thread.

BUT how did the snake move around before ? If his method of mobility was anything other than belly-crawling, was he actually a snake ?

Answers on a postcard......

(or in this thread will be good enough)

Evil lizards, maybe?

Or jet packs. I don't know. I'm no theologian.

naudiz.....then the Bible should say a lizard tempted Eve and that God transformed it into a new animal -"Lo ! thou shalt now be called a snake."

Yeah, but what can you do? Once something gets sent off to the publisher, it's pretty much a done deal.

I think there is a legless lizard that looks like a snake, but the difference is it has eyelids. So the snake might've been a lizard without eyelids. No wonder it was such a pisser.

It's a semi-serious point.....

Think of all the classical paintings of the snake offering the apple to Eve - that was before the punishment was dished out - and the fucker (in every painting I have seen at least) already looks pretty much like a bloody snake who wriggles on its belly.

Genesis 3:14

And the LORD God said unto the serpent, Because thou hast done this, thou art cursed above all cattle, and above every beast of the field; upon thy belly shalt thou go, and dust shalt thou eat all the days of thy life

In case you were wondering !

Christian Theologians, apologetists and pre-christ commentators have oft held to the belief {mush to the shigrin(sp?) of educated and enlightened scientific community} that the serpent/snake had legs before God placed the curse on it.

Most athiests and scientific community and biologists mocked this theory.

Then guess what happened next?

Umhh for as long as I can remember there has been evidence that snakes had legs then lost them. Just like whales, dolphins and many other animals.

I don't know why they are making such a big deal about it now. I remember learning this back in middle school.

awzed,

yes current sceientific reasoning and teaching teaches snake do still have vestigle{sp} legs

and they did at the time the fossil was found, but it was not always so.

much how we now teach the planets rotate around the sun

If God wanted to punish snakes, he would have given them legs. They do just fine without them.

They would have needed a fuck of a lot of legs.

Imagine a boa trying to manage with just 4 !
