Okay, here I go again. What are your views about skin in movies and on TV? Recently I have seen several movies which I saw in Europe. Here they have edited out the scenes with skin, while in Europe they showed everything. (I've noticed this with several shows from around the world.) Is it just in America where they edit out skin? Also I have noticed that here in America we tend to edit out penises. Is it because we here are offended by a swinging dick? (I remember in Europe that I saw several shows on TV where they were all nude in some scenes, and they didn't try to hide a mans penis, wether it was hard or soft.)
I have seen several films produced here in America where they showed full frontal nudity of women, yet they worked very hard to hide frontal nudity of the men. What's up with this? (Yes I know we had a short thread mentioning this a while back.) Hell, I have even seen some films here where they edited out the full frontal shots of men, yet showed frontal shots of women. (I had seen these films overseas prior to this.) What's up with this?
Are Americans the only people afraid to show nudity? Or is this growing in other countries? Let me know.

I think there's a law that says that every Portuguese movie produced in the last 30 years has to have at least one full frontal shot of a man. Most have of women too, but that is optional. :)

We tend to think as a nation we are very liberal minded yet everyone is so busy being "PC" that we consider the human body an embarassment instead of being a beautiful part of nature.
We are too image conscience here.

It's the puritan influence. We're a country founded by people who were so uptight, *England* didn't want them. I used to live in England coz my ex fiance's from there, they have nudity on tv in game shows, etc. And the movie's aren't edited. I wrote an english paper on the subject of censorship. I hate it. They showed the tv premier of Shindler's List and got rid of the nudity. Because it's ok to show Jews being mass-murdered in concentration camps, as long as we don't have to see their nakedness.

Funny, I just flipped on the tv for a few minutes before reading this thread, and got greeted with an old clip, Phyton I guess, of Michael Palin in all his naked glory. On public service TV, in the middle of the day, on easter, when all kids are home watching.

Nudity in general is less of an issue over here in Europe. But I still can't see full frontal male whenever and in whatever situation (unless aired late at night). It seems that the less sexual the context is, the more dangling dongs you are allowed to show.

Well here in Eruope skin is no big deal. There would be no real problem with boobies or even a penis (as long as it is not hard) Of course hardcore stuff is not allowed and would cause a huge debate. But boobies are fine, and nude shots from behind or so are fine as well.
Then again violence is a very big deal. Almost everything brutal in movies is cut out. So if you are a fan of action or horror movies you have a problem. Violent computer games are completely banned most of the times.
So of course this is the better way because violence is worse than sex and so it's logical to do it the 'european way'.

Hear, hear, tiger_smurf. What's weird, too, is that there weren't that many Puritans, they came over almost 300 years ago, lots and lots of people followed them, and we still have to deal with their vision of morality.

The policy on violence is much more varied than the nudity and sex policy in Europe. In some countries, vioent scenes in moves are constantly cut, and there are bans on all sorts of things. Here in Sweden, that was the case a decade ago, but the policy has changed. Today almost nothing gets cut, but instead there are more restictive rules on age limits. Norweigans drive across the border to buy computer games that are both cheaper and non-censored here. Of course, the main reason they come is the cheaper booze.

I remember the good old days of cigarette ads on TV. I miss those dancing cig packs with the long beautiful legs in high heels. There were also ads for cigs promoted by doctors who said which brand was healthier and 'cleaner'.

Strangely enough

Strangely enough I recently came across a set of laws put down by the Puritans in Mass. Their laws on bathing stands out.
"Bathing shall be done in groups of no less than three, half of which shall be male. Bathing shall be done in the clothing god provided us upon our birth."
Now the bathing in groups I can understand, even the bathing with half the group being male. There were savages about mind you and women weren't allowed to handle weapons. (They were the weaker of the species mind you.) This group bathing in the "clothing god provided us upon our birth" is rather enlightening when you consider we are born naked. So in other words they are saying people will bath in mixed groups while naked. Hmmmmmmmmmm, and their descendants are trying to abolish nudity? Go figure.

Sweden rules. Every person I know in northern Europe goes there for the booze...
Which is weird, since Swedes goes to Germany or Denmark to get theirs.

You forgot the PS:

"And all the women shall wear scarfs or cloths upon their faces, that their eyes will not to lustful and unclean acts entice the men, for it is written, that it was the woman that enticed the man into following the Serpent and thus brought the expulsion upon them."

"The men shall throughout be attentive of the women, that they may prevent lustful and indecent action upon their part."

See - nudity is ok - so long as women are naked, submissive and repressed. That's why you never see a naked dick - it makes men so... unmanly. Men should be dressed in flannel and smoke marlboro reds, women should be naked and waiting home for the men...

I saw an American general release film recently with cocksucking right at the beginning. Don't remember much about it. It was written and directed by women.

OK, half the people I know that go to Sweden for booze and cigarettes are only interested in the 'going' part. I think most of the shopping is done in the ship.

Ah, well, the tax-free shopping was a pretty big thing, until Sweden joined the EU. These days you have to go to the baltic states, the Åland islands (autonom zone of Finland, and excepted from Finland's EU membership), or to Norway to be able to do that shopping.

This lead to that all the huge Stockholm - Helsinki ferrys now take a break in Åland so that people can still get their cheap bottles. They even built an extra port for them to dock, just for that purpose.

Just out of idle curiosity, what, exactly, is done to obey this law if there are an odd number of bathers, say, three?
