I don't really read sig lines - unless they have something interesting in them, then I will read it.

Long sigs can be annoying sometimes, but then I did a long sig myself ages ago, so I can't really be annoyed!! But basically, its up to everyone how to use their sigs. I am not that bothered. But like Miss Rebbecca, I hate it when I see bbcode in sig lines, that does annoy me and I am a perfection when it comes to that. I make sure all bbcode is not shown before clicking on "save" by previewing, and checking everything is in the correct place etc.

I like images in sig lines, my favourite - but - I hate too many images and flashy and decorations, but again, I can't do anything about it.

So, looks like I do care after all, but only about my sigs!!

I picked "Free speech" option (Goodness, that phrase has been bandied around a lot lately!) because I figure that unless you're breaking a lit rule, do what you want. I keep mine pretty small because sigs do eat up bandwidth, and I got into the habit of being careful that way. On one of the sites I mod, that is a rule for us because we're small and non-profit and frankly, we can't afford mile long sigs.

I have fun with the people who demand that you read and notice their sig. Unless I'm curious about or am looking for something special (like the link to Shyguy's livejournal, which is in his sig.) they tend to scroll on by for me. And as Netz says, you're free to post whatever you want and someone else is free to tell you that you suck. I'm free to ignore them too.

As I generally keep sig lines turned off - the product of spending so many of my early Lit days in The Playground where it's fashionable to have sig lines that take up half a page - I sometimes even forget what my own says. I change it roughly once every geological age whether I need to or not. I think it's currently a bit of snark but I'm too lazy today to go check.

That's why I don't turn mine off. I wish we could selectively turn some off and leave others on. There are some that really annoy me. But it's just the internet, I'm not going to bitch about somethng so minor when there are real life battles more worth my energy.

My response?
