Well, it's a surprise, I know. But what about it. Do your political or philosophical ideals come through in your smut?

If so what comes through? What, why and the other 3 w's plus how?

If not? *cough* bull shit *cough*

Nah...

Wait a minute, I've a submission called Sexual Politics, but only 'cos Sexual didn't work as title.

Longer works can't easily avoid a political slant, it's easier to paint an environment you sympathise with or use as a device of rejection.

I'm a Liberal, which doesn't mean I go either way.

I think you're right, Charley-- my smut often expresses my ideals-- gender equality (My characters take turns topping each other), racial equality, (I put different races together, not to mention different classes), Communism (I like group sex very much, or threesomes where two share one) and dirty hippie-ism (Lots of mud) :D

I've gotta admit that there is a little politics in Death by Fucking and a lot of politics in Tales of the eKids, DbF's sequel.

My other smut is generally untainted by any political stench.

Right now I'm writing a story that's more politics than sex. :D

Hey Charley, you sexy beast you

My Evil Queen in "The Lesbian, The Bitch, and The Bathrobe" is a Republican. Her carriage is even pulled by elephants.

Yes, in that my ideals are reflected in my protagonists.

(Hi Charley - :rose: )

I think, in anything other than pure stroke (and even in some of those), a writer's own political ideas influence what their characters say and do. The majority of my main characters, for instance, don't care for GWB, while a lot of the bad guys do . . . .

I did do a story on the best anal sex I ever had. Lots of references to her having a beautiful ass. I guess it was the Democrat coming out of me....

But a team of assess..... damn! What a great idea! Mabye I will call it... "The Primary"....

hm... yes and no and no idea.

really, no idea... i would think that at least in some of my stories political ideas of mine come through, if just by what the characters think about the world... or sometimes, the opposite... but trying to think of an example, i can't think of one...

You mean do I write Republican smut about men having sex with their male pages in bathrooms and then apologizing?

No. I write Democratic smut about men having affairs with women.

I had to think about this a bit, because the only political or philosophical point common to everything I've written is gender equality -- in the sense that I write about people and don't necessarily worry about traditional gender roles. Some characters do fall into stereotypical roles based on gender but that's a conscious choice on my part to use those stereotypes to define the character.

I don't think it's possible to write much of anything without a political and/or philisophical bias. Where I consciously include politics and/or philosophy it is seldom my personal politics or philosphy.

Protagonists with only views I espouse and villians with only views I oppose make generally boring characterizations -- the real world is a whole rainbow of political/philosophical shades and colors so fictional depictions in black and white are not only boring, but grossly unrealistic.

Here in the US it seems to me, "Politics" is something like the opposite of "Philosophy", I.E. thought goes out the window when the two-party system (and it's correlaries) come in the door.

I remember watching Lina Wurtmuller's films and rather marvelling at how tirelessly she pounded her socialist drum in every one of them-- be it love story or whatever, she had one conclusion, and it wasn't about the love interest... In that sense, I do not write my politics into my stories.
Now, I'm thinking that a stronger philosophical theme might be what I need to get this stalled novel back on the road. Hmm...

"Swept Away" plays a socialist tune - 'pounding a drum' seems overstated - but I don't see it in "Seven Beauties." Anarchistic, definitely.

(I love those films.)

That one has possibilities, actually -

;)

I think the answer for me is "sometimes." My "Hand Job Slut" series of stories is an unabashed celebration of capitalism and the free market, cunningly disguised as pure stroke.......Carney

I recall it was pretty prevalent in "Seduction of Mimi" as well-- I thought that was a shame, given the beauty of that ethereal blond... I might think different now, I was pretty young when I saw them. She created such gorgeous visuals!

I think sometimes how I feel about various issues comes through in my stories. There's nothing even overtly Republican, Democrat, liberal, or conservative in them. Although, how I feel about some particular issue may become apparent without regard to what political party is trying to garner votes by espousing that issue. My views about most issues tend to cross party lines, if not disagree with either all together.

Some of my political ideas come out in my smut. For example, that having more than one sexual partner isn't automatically a bad thing, some married people can happily have sex with others, and that pot isn't really that harmful.

I'm very socially liberal, and it's pretty clear from my smut. I also have ideas about men and women that I think come out. But I definitely avoid taking on anything that doesn't really relate to sex, like taxes or war.

The only way to completely avoid politics is to become a hermit.

You can avoid philosophical ideas by not thinking, I suppose. People have written stories deliberately tweaked to disguise their philosophical sympathies, but really, that's one of the temptations which makes writing any fun.

In the future universe of my novels, each planet is more or less self sufficient. However, they are linked together by a transit authority which has its own monetary economy. For many, the only marketable commodity is -- sex. Actually, this is not too far from what we are seeing today with Eastern Europe, Asia and Africa -- a thin veneer of stability and prosperity plastered over suffering and chaos.

Also, most of my characters are casually bisexual, which is at heart a political statement. Of course, it adds to the sexual possibilities.
