Senior Moments

"OK, my pretties, it's time to get up." TheOldWidow rubs her hands together, and goes for her first mug of coffee.

One of our local charities is having a 1950's theme night. I told the wife that all we have to do is show up and critique
:D

We seem to be thrown back to the 50's anyway. I keep waiting for someone to ask, "Are you now or have you ever been a member of the communist party"....or just know somebody Russian...

Perhaps someone told me about this thread before, and I just forgot.....

I think I do that all the time, I just can't remember.....

So I went and saw my doctor for a check up. Now just to let you know, I am 62, I have type 2 diabetes, High Blood Pressure and was up to 235. So I decided when I turned 62, I was going to take early retirement and focus on what I wanted to do . The job I was at didn't pay that well and I was going to get the same money when I retired... and the stress was big.

So here I am at my doctor... she looked at me and said well, I hear you retired in Feb, I said yep. She said your blood work was AWESOME. Everything is down. You weight is down to 210, and your blood pressure is down, your A1C is the lowest it has ever been at 6.2 and.... you are just doing great and what has changed...

I said Doc... you just said what was different. I RETIRED!

She said you look so relaxed and happy and I said yep... I am ... lol

Welcome Papa...

Yea I created the thread so us older sexy people could hang without the kids bugging us...

Denny

We've been busy and just sort of caught up on this thread. We've..... I have been retired almost 24 years if I live till June 1st. My wife, Dollie, says she hasn't gotten to retire yet. She takes care of me, chops wood, mows the lawn, cleans the gutters, cooks meals, and other minor things.

Of course most of that is just in her slowly deteriorating mind. She does have short term dementia................I think. Actually she's doing well. We retired to Florida 23 years ago and planned on remaining there until we died. Our kids decided since I did almost die we'd move back to Illinois where I was sort of born and raised.

I'd already bought a small home here back in Oct 2014 just in case. Bought it over the internet site unseen.
The end of June 2016 I sort of almost died for the second time. Oldest and his wife came down and within two days we were in our new old house in Illinois.

We left many things behind. But now nearly a year has passed and we thank all three kids and their families for everything they've done to help us get comfortable here in central Illinois. Even the winter weather was good to us. Very little snow. The good thing about that was we just sat inside and stared at the neighbors sliding to work on a slipper lane.

We miss the south, loved New Orleans, Florida Keys, and all along the east coast. But there's something about home that keeps us warm and fuzzy all over. Maybe it's the few old friends we grew up with, the grandkids, or not going to bed until we get damned good and ready, and getting up around 8 or 9AM and sometimes going right back to sleep after a pee.

I'd wander on more but I have to drive 26 miles for my prostate radiation then come home for a nap. These doctors say I'm looking good and probably will live another 20 years after my treatment. Of course they are lying.

Well, darn, gotta go. That's my senior moment for the moment.

HI there LLidar.... glad to see you here... hope you come back often...

Hi Spenser...thank you for the welcome; I appreciate it. I have to admit to not having coffee in common with any of you here since I never acquired a taste for it.

I retired/resigned from my job early to care for my Mother who was diagnosed with cancer. Unfortunately, she only survived two years but I would never have given up that time with her even though it was the most difficult experience I had ever had.

After that there were other family members and exceptionally good friends that I loved and lost due to health issues. It culminated in September, 2015, when my husband passed away after being ill for years.

So now, for the first time in my life, I find myself living alone ( well, except for the cats) and torn between the empowerment of doing what I want, when I want to, and the loneliness associated with not always having someone around to share the everyday and exceptional experiences with. It is a definite learning experience and an opportunity for growth. At least that's what I keep telling myself. :D

I'm very blessed to have wonderful friends both in real life and here on LIT. I honestly don't know what I would do without them some days. And, there is always room for more.

I'll be stopping back. Love the thread.

I'm relegated to decaf only, but that doesn't bother me because I love the taste of coffee!

I started drinking coffee before I had a name for the stuff. My great-grandmother gave me a cup of coffee to keep me from begging. It was more milk than coffee with sugar. Even now when I get depressed I have a cup of coffee with pet milk and sugar. It warms my soul.

I also live alone, but it's by choice. If I feel the need to talk to live people, I go down to the lobby of the apartment building. Now that the weather is pleasant, I can go to a little strip park or one of the many venues nearby.

Come back anytime. (Spenser won't care.)

Yea just Done said, I do not care and am glad you guys like the thread and want to see it continue. I have had a few that bit the dust big time.

But Yea I am not a coffee person. I have never been able to get the taste. So I mainly drink tea, flavored water, water or Dt. Mt. Dew and once in a great while a Coke...

DGO...I'm not saying that no one tried to get me to drink coffee the way that they drank it which, according to them, was the best. Pfft...forget it. Never happened and, eventually, they gave up. Yay!!!! I do have wonderful childhood memories though of my Mother opening cans of coffee. Loved that first whiff of coffee..just not the taste of it.

And, Spenser, I had to give up soda years ago. Now I stick to 0 calorie crystal light and occasionally some iced or hot tea. That's my splurge...WOW, impressive huh? :D

But, summer is upon us and I'm a huge gardener and cannot wait to get my hands on my flowers and vegetables. It is may favorite time of the year. And, for me, the ability to work outside rights many of my wrongs. :)

Have a wonderful day folks...:rose:

The wife didn't start drinking coffee until years after we were married. I started about age 3. A family friend used to watch me when my mom went to work. She would make coffee, mine with mostly milk and sugar, and I'd sit on her lap and we'd read "Il Progresso". It's how I learned to read and speak two languages before I was 4. So, coffee has a lot of fond memories for me...

That's similar to my experience.

Ahh, coffee. When I was growing up, it was coffee or water, but always coffee in the morning. I can't ever remember not drinking it. I've always liked it strong and black, we only had Pet milk in a can, for cream. And sugar, you didn't waste sugar putting it in coffee.

Funny how times have changed. We used to buy our coffee in the great big cans. Maybe 50 lbs.? All I can remember about them, the cans were green and were MJB. For the winter, my mother would order 10 of the cans to be shipped upriver, You might run out of other items, but you didn't run out of coffee.

My mom drank coffee from the time she got up until she went to bed. Dad was a little more moderate, as he hit the sack by 9. In our house it was usually Maxwell House. Espresso was reserved for Sunday and the holidays...
