Senior Moments

Well said !!! :rose::rose::rose:

And here in my heart. :rose::heart::rose:

It's My silver... I can polish it as fast as I want!!

On rare occasion, TOW.. I fall into the "single and aging alone" pit.
realize I've let my edges tarnish.. as far as the "gripe, moan, whine" crap?
Nobody wants to hear it... not even if I get it all short, to the point and in a timely manner!
My oldest daughter will ask, with fatherly reverence..
"Want me to call you a "Waaaammbulance, Pop?"

A long time ago I decided I wouldn't limit my conversations to my aches and pains. I worked with several people who discussed their health issues constantly. (I think we all have.) When I was going through chemo, I told my DIL that I'd give her a 15 second health report after which we'd have to move on to something else. I did the same thing with my siblings and friends. I have friends who are dealing with serious health issues. I don't mind if they use me to vent.

I so truly understand. That's when I break out the quiet smile and the edges of my eyes crinkle. There is nothing that can be said.

So what's left. I pour my energies into going to the gym. Everyone has an outlet, as long as I can do that, nothing stops long enough to tarnish. Once I get it polished, that is.

And now, if I may .......

..... I'd like to say ..... Well, there's many things I'd like to say, but I'll begin by saying that I'm glad and more than a little relieved to have discovered this thread, this category, this gathering place (?) of people I believe I may have more than a few things in common with, and who I can relate to, and vice-versa. Just as walking into a room filled with people who all seem to know one another and are sort of connected somehow, I'll just wander around and look for an opening and see if this really is the welcoming port in a storm that I've hoped to find for too long a time.

Before, or while deciding to dip my metaphorical toe into this pool of interesting folks, I thought it might be a good idea to take a look at what I had included in my original profile information. Something I haven't done since first posting it long ago. The only real change is that I'm much more comfortably retired now than I was when I first composed that little blurb, and by "comfortably" I mean that I'm glad each day to not have to deal with "the grind", or adhere to someone else's schedule. Hell, I was never good at it anyway. So, here I am, having gotten out of bed at the "proper" hour of 9:00, A.M. and am enjoying my first cup of coffee and a gorgeous spring morning, and getting ready to "wander around" in here to see who all of you may be. So, with a genuine, but unseen smile and a virtual reaching out of the hand which isn't holding my coffee, I hope to meet as many of you as I can. Care to share a midmorning breakfast?

Hello,

Pleased to make your acquaintance. I am the old widow, recently from nowhere friendly and light. We're all out on the patio, enjoying the morning. Although, looking at her watch, you will have to get up a might earlier tomorrow. We're almost ready to scatter to get the day's chores done.

With an evil grin, I offer to get you up when I wake up. I'll call about a quarter to five tomorrow morning. The look on your face was priceless. Welcome.

Welcome to the old folk's home. I'm the resident genius, DGO. Mind my manners and you'll have a ball.

Would love it when someone "gets me up" in the morning - no matter what time it is. Morning is always the best time to "get up". Sets the tone for the rest of the day.

Whoa! What a nice welcoming surprise. Actually, I've been outside since just after posting my first group of thoughts here. It's pushing 83 or 84 degrees and I'm lovin' it! I am, after all, a "Southerner" with reptilian DNA and love warm (read: HOT) weather. Got some tree trimming done, weeded a garden, trimmed back, slightly, a huge growth of Jasmine, and now I'm working on a midafternoon lunch. As far as getting up at 5:30 is concerned, I'm afraid you'll just have to sit around on that patio without me. I'm "retired", remember? Also, I tend to stay up late, so if I think I need anywhere near eight hours of sleep, I do the math and set my alarm accordingly. Hey, what's the rush?

I suppose I can reveal that it's been far too long since someone has "gotten me up" in the mornings. Sounds damn inviting though! And now, I'm tempted to sit here and respond to the other comments left, but duty calls, and all that malarkey. I know all y'all are scattered to the four corners and I hope this spring afternoon is as bright, beautiful, and wonderfully warm as the one I'll be going back out into. Anyone here ride a bike? I like to do two or three speedy (?) circuits around a big park not far from here 3 or 4 times a week ..... on my one speed (!) cruiser. Not even that wears me out enough to go to bed early enough to get up at 4:45. How you saaay, use it or lose it.
So, thanks for all the welcoming words and thoughts. I'll definitely be revisiting this thread, sooner than anyone can say, "Hey, has anyone seem my Geritol?" Ciao, y'all.

Now it's nap time.

It has been busy today.
So far, we have tarnished edges, double entendre's, and the beginnings of a road trip. Nobody left me a note that they wanted a wake up call, so see ya on the patio in the morning. When ever ya straggle in.

I usually wake up about 6. If I'm lucky I go back to sleep until 8. I can't ignore the call so I get up have a bowl of cereal so that I can take my meds. I piddle and lollygag until noon when I watch Match Game. At 3 at watch Hot Bench and at 4:30 I watch Jeopardy. (missed it today) Between my activities, I surf the web check on friends on Facebook, make a couple of greeting cards, read and if the mood hits me just right, I do a little writing.

I forgot where I was going with this! Oh well.

Your day is as fast living on the edge as mine...

Not yet ;)

Or, you could just nudge me :D

(DE #3)

Wow a lot of activity since I was last on. I've been very busy and this is the first chance I've had to get back. Glad you guys have made yourself at home.

This is a fun, easy thread. You don't have to answer a question, try to remember the alphabet or make sexy comments to prove you're still doing it!

Hello everyone...I'm so happy I found this thread. Will definitely subscribe and be back to chat when you all are around.
