Seeking a Moderately Disparaging Term for Women...

I'm trying to think of a contemporary equivalent for the word "babe" or "chick" to use as a mildly dismissive term for the class of sexually available women.

It's going to be used by an oafish private eye who's a parody of the hard-boiled dick character of the 40's-60's, but updated in language if not in attitude. Context is, he says, "It's something you see in a lot of _____s ..."

"Hottie" won't do, because that kind of implies a woman's on the make. I can think of a bunch of synonyms -- skirt, doll, femme, honey -- but they're all sadly dated.

It seems like the 40' and 50's were really the heyday for that concept of women.

If it's an oafish private eye, the term "Broad" comes to mind.

if she's older and attractive you could go with "cougar" that has that hot connotation, but also kind of generalizes the woman as being an object of desire.

For the last two especially, I find it frustratingly sexist when 'Girl' is used to describe women. I HATE the word 'gal'. I just can't describe why I hate it so much, it's not particularly offensive. But whenever a man refers to women as 'gals' I just have this feeling that he doesn't take women seriously.

And girl can be extremely condescending. Especially when used to a full-grown woman's face.

In the Sons of Anarchy tv show, the women refer to other women as gashes. Might be a bit too disparaging though. Hon is one that doesn't sit well with many women, if it isn't from someone close. Babe, Ma'am, have the same effect.
