SCOTUS restores gov't authority over non-vaccinated navy SEALS temporarily

Sick people can't do their job. Period. This is a decision that should be made by the Pentagon. No one else

The fact that there are three votes on the Supreme Court for the proposition that the president is not actually the commander-in-chief is sort of alarming.

But not surprising. Fascism is far more rampant in the US than most think.

Kavanough's brief opinion is particularly sensible in defence of Constitutional norms, and putting the lower court Judge back in his box.(Now I didn't anticipate saying that!)

Alito's and Thomas' incompetence was entirely predictable, but usually Goresuch is too sound a lawyer to concur with such stupidity. But he did.

If the chain of command tells you to take a vaccine, you take the vaccine or take a discharge. As someone who was pumped full of unknown substances prior to any deployment, I don't understand why this was/is even an issue.

First off, every person who joins the US Armed Forces go through recruit training aka bootcamp. During training, these recruits will go through a battery of inoculations/vaccinations/blood tests. When they report to their next command the medical staff will scan their medical records to ensure it is complete and their shot record are up to date.

If they are heading for Deep Sea Diver's School, Explosive Ordnance Disposal School (which starts at Deep Sea Dive School) or to Basic Underwater Demolition School aka BUDs for the SEAL Teams they will undergo an intense medical physical, which will include dental work, more blood tests and another review of their inoculation/vaccination record. They will also undergo a Pressure and O2 tolerance test in a hyperbaric chamber, a physical fitness test and a swim test.

Upon arrival at these schools the medical staff will, once again, review their medical record (especially if they are coming from the fleet) to ensure their record is complete and once again, their inoculations/vaccinations record is up to date. After training (for those that make it) and they report to their new command the medical staff will once again review their medical records.

Before their deployments, especially with the SEAL Teams, the Hospital Corpman, usually a Diving Med Tech (DMT) will, again review their inoculations/vaccinations and there maybe additional inoculations/vaccinations that maybe required depending on where they are going.

In the diving and even the submarine communities you work close up and personal with your fellow shipmates. When doing submarine lockouts, hyperbaric chamber runs you are often 'nut to butt' and 'shoulder to shoulder' with your teammates. Crew berthing spaces are generally close and tight.

So, for any military service member to claim a religious exemption to avoid the Covid 19 vaccination is ludicrous. For the few SEAL Team members to claim their religious beliefs come before the health, safety and wellbeing of their team and their teammates is dangerous and they shouldn't be there at all. And it wasn't any business of any civilian court. The US Military member took an oath of office answers to The Uniform Code of Military Justice.

Okay everyone, I'm off my soapbox. Have a safe and healthy weekend.

THIS ↑ If they had a religious objection to inoculation, it should have been made apparent when they entered the service. There is no logical reason to object specifically to a Covid-19 vaccination and take all the others required by the military.

Comshaw

Yep. The enlistment/re-enlistment documents and your signed contract are quite complete covers just about everything.

Because Trump politicized the pandemic, and that took on a life of its own and survived his presidency, and there are a lot of RWs in the armed forces. No other reason.

Very true.

But mAh rights!

I have no idea what all they shoved into my arm with that air gun.
Yep, walked in single line between the corpsman and they'd hit in both shoulders, if ya flinched it cut you like a knife. Rode one junk boat (ARS a salvage vessel) where the DMT had a foot pump you pumped until he said stop and then he'd pop with air gun. And fun was had by all. :D
