i've spent 4 and a half hours today trying to get this mother fucker to work.

the instalation cd nolonger works keeps getting an error, so I d/load the drivers for win xp it installs i keep getting this damn pop up ever 10 mins "you will get a message cannot find.. some connection. click yes to continue instalatins" there is no yes button only an okay, and no cancle... so the fucker keeps comeing.

everytime i try to scan it says I have no scanner installed

anyone out there know how I can fix this and scan in my damn shit?

*smart ass answer ahead* *proceed with caution*

:D

reformat..

Actually i have no advice.. sorry I can't help. :(

Good luck

Have you taken the software off your PC before installing it again? If you need help doing that, try the help wizard, cause I have no idea.

It might be a good idea to unplug everything and start over again, like it was your first time using the scanner.

Or, maybe you could look in the scanner help manual on your CP.

That's all I got.

wiggles ... tryed it. tryed it. tryed it.

freakygurl.... that's what I'm trying to avoid.... bet getting pissed and starting to think i may have to... but shit. it takes me 3 days to backup and reinstall everything again.

ick.. ok.. so you have totally uninstalled the program.. right?

Unplugged the scanner..

shut down and reboot the computer..

then follow the instructions on installing it.. just like you just opened the box for the first time.

MAKE SURE ALL PLUGS ARE PLUGGED IN PROPERLY.. (I didn't have one cord hooked up right.. took me a week to figure it out)

*added on as an after thought* go to add/remove programs and remove the scanner program there..

yep wiped the scanner software clean, unpluged all cords, installed the software, restarted hooked the wires back up, turned on the comp and finished instalation just like it says to do.

well it seems doing this erased my digicam too, but I got that back now...

I'm going to fuck around with it again tomarrow.
but if anyone else has Ideas tell me please i'll try anything if it's posible and may help

What interface dos your scanner use? Printer port, USB, SCSI, or Serial?

Since your camera was affected also, I'm going to assume it's a USB interface for a first guess.

Make sure the USB drivers are from XP and not an earlier version of Windows. My hunting buddy has an HP scanjet with USB interface running on Windows ME. When I tried to install my camera software, his system wouldn't recognise the camera driver, and lost the scanner driver as well.

The problem? The HP scanner CD installed Win 98 USB drivers over the Win ME US drivers.

The Solution: Remove and reinstall USB support from your Windows CD and Make sure the HP software doesn't overwrite it again -- ie do a "custom install" and uncheck the option to install USB support when you reinstall the scanner.

Fucking bad drivers.

Oh, the drivers the HP disk installs aren't bad. They work just fine -- if you're using Win 95 or 98.

Point that bird in the direction of MS and Mr. Gates -- If windows weren't always "improving" on things that work, HP wouldn't have to provide USB drivers, and the drivers would work with any version of Windows.

Fly, this is so weird, because the same thing happened to me a couple of weeks ago. Everything looked hunky-dory, reinstalled, rebooted, yadda yadda and nothing.

Went a couple of days, and back to normal. Frustrating doesn't begin to describe. I think it's a subtle marketing ploy--get you to buy a new one.

I believe I have the same scanner, if you want to email me el address I'll be happy to send along my disk thingy to you to see if that would work.

thanks Weird Harold, I think that may be my problem, i'm going to see if i can find some new usb drivers. and when i'm in my kill my computer mood i'll do that tonight.

Mellon, what do you mean you send me your disc? if it's the same scanner woulnd't we have the same disc?
or do you have one for win me and win xp?

I think that's why my disc keep giveing me an error when I try to install is cause it's a win 98 one and can't find the propper .dll's

Eh, you've gone far and beyond my very limited knowledge. All I know is I have the same exact scanner (which is always giving me problems too) and it came with an installation disk and I'm not even the one who installed it. I assume there was just one and it was good for any version of windows (I have 98). I don't know but maybe there is something wrong with the disk you have in your possession so I could send you mine to see if that could work.

Just an idea and an offer.
