Requesting a later publishing date

Hello, I submitted a story on the 29th of august, and I requested that it be published on the 14th of September.

The story is still in pending without a “new” tag or date. It’s been 12 days. Is that normal? Will it only change status once it’s on the 13th, or is it seemingly stuck?

What usually happens when you request later release date? I’m planning to resubmit if it doesn’t change by the 13th.

I have submitted two times before and both were rejected in 3 days. Then I submitted once more, and it got stuck for 8 weeks! Thus I tried submitting again now. So I’m worried, and don’t know if it’s going to be rejected, is stuck in pending, or is going to take weeks.

Twelve days is longer than average, but nowhere close to a record. There's always a slight chance it just got overlooked. Between what the site has said and what other authors have experienced, though, it's more likely that your story was set aside because they decided it needed 'extra attention', which we generally assume means that some type of keyword scan or other automated review raised enough flags that Laurel has to give it a more thorough read.

In general, Laurel has obliged almost every request for a specific release day I have asked for, whether it was five days after submission or fifteen. It's not impossible that she decided to sit on it until the 13th, but that wouldn't be characteristic behavior.

If the review is successful, you will see the story gain a NEW tag and the date next to it will change to the publication date (hopefully 14th September, like you requested). It’s anyone’s guess when exactly will this happen, however.

Don’t. It’s highly unlikely it goes through by 14th if you do that. The current guideline is to allow up to 30 days review time, so just leave the submission be until that time passes.

Well, unless you made some significant edits to the version that was pending for 8 weeks, I wouldn't expect the results to be any different, or any faster.

I did rewrite a lot of it. It’s the false AI detection bullshit I’ve been dealing with. So I worded 90% of it differently.

But you’re saying if everything went smoothly, I should have gotten a new tag with a date a couple days in even when I request a 2 weeks later publication?

No, I'm saying that if everything went smoothly on the 8/29 submission, by around 9/1 you would have seen a 9/14 publication date. In the other, the story was approved very quickly but scheduled for the following day instead of what I asked.

I suspect you're in for a long wait again, given that this is a fourth attempt. Even if this version didn't raise a lot of flags, they might feel the need to check it more carefully. We've seen enough people come through the forum complaining about the ban on AI submissions that we can't discount the possibility that someone like that is just as persistent at trying to get something published as those folks earnestly trying to follow the rules.

Yeah that was what I meant. Thank you for explaining. This really sucks BALLS. I’m so frustrated I could scream. Fuck AI and fuck this AI detection bullshit.
