Is Ghosting from the Admin normal here?

I almost always put a disclaimer in my story: "All characters are 18 years or older." and I'll often put the same text in the Note to Admins box in the submission page. No idea if it works, but as any references to underage sex can cause a rejection, it can't hurt. If you tend to write about high school seniors or even college students, this might be a good idea. So far, (knocking on wood), I haven't had any stories stuck in Pending hell.

I have the same problem, it takes an eternity to get most stories published, contacting moderators is impossible.

This is extreme hyperbole.

"Most stories" likely get through just fine; if they do, we probably never hear about them because there's no reason for anyone to complain about them. The complaints that appear here make it seem like the pending backlog is a widespread issue, and it is... among the people posting to complain about it. That's not a site-wide bug: that's a statistical artifact.

For those affected by the pending bug, I'm certain it's a hugely frustrating issue. They have my empathy. But please don't act as though posting a story is somehow hopeless. It's not.

As for "contacting moderators?" I've never had a problem doing just that and getting a civil reply. But then, I'm careful to only contact them over important issues after I've done my part to try to troubleshoot them.

The moderators have nothing to do with story submissions. Laurel, apparently one of only two owners of this site, is the sole reviewer and approver for all stories. Folks on this thread and all the other authors threads need to stop bothering the moderators with questions about submitted stories. Laurel and her partner Manu hardly ever talk to them, either.

I don't think most new authors know the distinction between forum moderators and the site editor, and they also assume there is a bunch of reviewers reading new content. Here in the AH, folk generally do know that difference, and I think most of us are convinced there's only the single editor, not a bunch of reviewers.

But we can't expect every new poster to know these things, so all we can do is keep up the advice, and try at least to be consistent.

I agree.

I also assume, when I read a lot of these kinds of posts, that when people say "moderators," they mean Laurel. Countless threads here show uncertainty (generally from less experienced users) about the basics of story approval here, but I do usually presume people separate the story side from the forum side in their complaints.

Though I admit I might be totally wrong to presume that...

Which is all I was trying to do. 🙂
