I see someone in Texas is lining up in the public hanging line.

WTF has happened to Republicans who run for office and think they have no job responsibilities to the people that elected them like making sure the power grid is on and comes back on in a reasonable amount of time?

I suppose if you vote REPUBLICAN you should be ready to fend for your self like they do in third world countries.

"… The City and County, along with power providers or any other service owes you NOTHING!”

"Boyd continued at length, saying that he was “sick and tired” of people looking for handouts and that the current situation is “sadly a product of a socialist government.”
....no Mayor, it is a failure of your leadership.

Socialism made them have a shitty infrastructure. Lol. These guys are bozos.

Let's hope it stays that way.

LOL.....the infrastructure is fine, it's just not built for a once in a century blizzard.

Unlike California which does this every summer all summer because it is effectively socialized and largely mismanaged.

Let's hope it stays that way.

We are discussing texas not california. Try to keep up little one.

The free market failures keep on coming

Compared to government they're MVP all stars :D

Hell I NEVER have power problems....because I don't rely on the government for my energy.

Awwww PAY NO ATTENTION!!! To how much worse the (D)'s and their beloved socialism work. :D

[Gratuitous insult deleted]...

Texas didn't rely on the Government for their energy either. The power producers and the distribution grid were all privately owned.

Private enterprise failed, and is still failing, Texans.

You dumbass. The California grid is owned by private companies. Pacific Gas and Electric chose profits over line maintenance for years and now California rate payers have to make up for it.

Third party line inspectors' jobs had been threatened for years for filing too many maintenance reports. I know and have interviewed some of them. Ever since the fatal fires of 2017 there has been a gold rush for tree service and vegetation removal companies as the utilities have scrambled to catch up with reducing vegetation along transmission lines. PG&E was threatened with state takeover before they would do anything about it.

Even though utility company negligence was found to have caused death and property damage, their stock holders and company execs who had been profiting for years lost nothing. All expenses were passed on to rate payers. Ain't corporate capitalism great?

FYP you're welcome

LOL.....the infrastructure is fine, it's just not built for melting polar ice caps due to global warming, which will be increasingly common and which anyone with a brain could see coming.

Yup. For the first time in decades.

Vs. an annual 4-8mo event for California for the past 30 fuckin' years. :D

PG&E is only private to the extent "State of California Department of Energy" isn't their official name.

They are a state ordained monopoly, they are peak "crony" not-capitalism.

No, you retain the right to deny science when convenient for your ideology.

I'm not denying science.

I'm denying a leftist nutty rants.

You leftist need to stop conflating your fee fee induced rants with "science"....they aren't the same thing. :)

PG&E is owned by stockholders. The primary purpose of the company is to protect stock holder's interests. They choose their priorities accordingly -- capitalism.

Lol. Yeah, the dust bowl was just a power grab by socialists too, right?

That's not capitalism.

If it were capitalism PG&E would have to protect it's stock holder's interest.

It doesn't, Sacramento protects it's stock holder's interest. Sacramento is the ONLY thing that has kept PG&E around.

In California, much like with Obamacare and so many of these democrat programs initiatives you are seeing the merger of state and corporate power to protect stock holder's interest.

That's a whole different ism altogether, and it's name is not capitalism. :)

Diligent oversight ensures a competitive market:

"The California ISO is regulated by the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission, an independent federal agency that regulates the interstate transmission of electricity, natural gas, and oil. The California Public Utilities Commission regulates investor-owned utilities operating in the ISO balancing authority area. Publicly owned utilities in California are regulated by their respective city councils or other governance bodies."

The reason PG&E still exists today is because the state allowed them to keep their stockholders happy while raising rates. If they had not kowtowed to the stockholders, the company would have become state run. They were prevented from becoming socialist by screwing rate payers to protect stockholders.

Lol. Just regurgitating, or do you have any thoughtful analysis?

DING DING DING!!!

EXACTLY.....they only exist and are who they are and fuck everyone they way they do because the state protects it and it's effective monopoly over the market.

You have to buy from PG&E, or one of it's subordinate public providers who run on it's infrastructure. If you happen to be grandfathered in on a mining claim or homestead where the state doesn't put a gun to your head and force you to hook up and pay .... the state comes out and taxes you for your private energy production anyhow. LOL Fuckin' assholes.

Socialism isn't the kind of ism I was getting at :D

"the merger of state and corporate power" is the TLDR description of fascistic economics. The state FORCES you to buy from PG&E..they FORCE you to buy health insurance from the chosen list of (politically well connected) insurers. They force you to use this service and that...from highly regulated "private" companies that are only what they are because the state forces/protects it and it's market access. That's economic fascism.

You highlight your selective reasoning. The decision to let PG&E pass on the costs to rate payers was so they would not go bankrupt and have the state become the owners of the utility. The need came because capitalism failed to protect the public interests.

No, no one is ‘forced’ to buy from PG&E. Anyone who wants to and can may go off-grid anytime they want. They can even take a 26% federal tax credit to do it. It’s a similar cost for most households as a new SUV.

What does PG&E have to do with the piece of shit Republicans saying that you are owed nothing for paying your taxes and paying you electric bills?

.
Creeping Charlie refuses to see the forest for the trees.

The irritating weed just keeps flailing around avoiding the obvious truth.

Potted plants are really dumb.

BotBoy was just equivocating again.

PG&E (CA) is a good case study of a utility that prioritized profit over service and public safety and passed the costs on to rate and tax payers.
