Remember when...

Sodas came in glass bottles, and cost a dime out of the machine? You could pick up enough empties along the road to get one by the time you got to the gas station.

Penny candy usually meant penny candy.

You could take all day in the toy section trying to figure out what to buy with your one dollar bill.

Little kids could play anywhere in the neighborhood, but had to be home at dark. (Now we won't let them out of our sight.)

Saturday morning meant cartoons. Great cartoons, until Soul Train came on. Then it was time to go OUTSIDE and play.

Do you have any remember whens to share? Comments on mine?

When I was in college, we read about such things in the ancient texts.

remember when...

you had to fight a very pissed bear for sleeping quarters (read: cave)

leather and furs wern't just the "in" fasion, they were the "only" fasion.

obsidian was all the rage for household cutlery.

a wedding consisted of a good club to the head of the "bride."

nobody counted their birthdays. that required knowing how to count.

I remember it.....

fondly. ~smiling~

Some of those things are still part of life in small town America where I raised my babies.

Remember red rover? red light/green light?

~still smiling~ thank you.

Remember your first job?

Mine was at the soda fountain in the corner drug store, back in my home town in Wyoming.

I think I made a dollar and a quarter an hour. I was 15.

Loved those vanilla cokes and still do......

Remember when Ishmael posted a similar thread? ;) I sure don't. Damn, I don't read all the threads!

So, you guys are young puppies. Let me see here.

Remember when Burger King sold hamburgers, a fish sandwich, and a chicken sandwich, and that was it?

Remember 'Mall' hair? I always wondered what was up with that. The girls looked great from the front, but from the side, or back, it looked like a sick poodle died on her head.

Remember when most TV shows were in black and white? Oh thats right I forgot...

Remember the Christmas Eve that HBO aired Ghost-busters as a surprise gift to everyone? Think it was 84.

Dude, I remember that.

LOL

Look I am 44, I don't remember anything you just posted...... LMAO

What is mall hair?

How about the Cronkite-Brinkly news hour? Oh, Mountain Dew in green glass bottle with a hillbilly on it? The coolest guy in town wore 501 levis and penny loafers. The drive-in movie theater showed new releases. A five speed schwinn bike was the hot item to have. Everybody knew what an L.P. album was because we all had them.

In school we were taught about 'surviving' a nuclear war/attack and the 'commies' were out to take over the world.

Thinking a bit more I can remember JFK giving a speech about Cuba, and then later, his trip to Dallas. Chuck Yeager breaking the sound barrier and the 'x-plane' testing. Neil Armstrong on the moon, and of course, news shots from the front llines in Vietnam.

Ed sullivan, Red Skelton, Leave it to Beaver, all in new episodes not reruns.

Oh Yeah, drive-ins were the best. I remember...oh yeah, I promised to never tell about that one.

DriveIns

a thread almost of their own....

First time I got drunk was at the drive in--Boone's Farm........yikes.

First time mmmm I made to the back seat with a guy lol

Yes fond memories indeed..... ~smiling~

Anne of greens springs and a chevy biscayne. She was beautiful and very friendly. I learned things that I never knew about girls there.

Sorry, I don't remember much past last week. I had a serious mindwiper on Friday and I only got bits and pieces.

I do remember when a McDonald's cheeseburger cost 49 cents and post-apocolypse was en vogue.

McDonalds

Oh yeah, I can remember when the first McDonalds came to the big city nearby. It was a line of people for two blocks for a burger and fries. a very new experience for sure.

I do miss those simpler times. Hard to believe that so much was done without P.C.s. Wished that I had been able to invest in microsoft and even apple back then.

I also remember being very clumsy, and ~shudder~ (promise to not tell her) a virgin. OK, yeah, I was a virgin once. ;)

Yes. :)

Yeah, I remember going to the ONLY McDonald's in town, had those big ol' arches that started in the front of the building and ran along the side ending in the back.

Remember when bikes had 'sissy' bars?

Desert Rose you don't recall the hair all scooped up and styled in the front, a ton of hair spray and crap, I guess it was sort of a curl, been awhile. I know my wife liked it. I felt like laughing every time I saw it.

What else...

Remember when you didn't see any hint of Christmas, until AFTER Thanksgiving? Nothing at all. I am already seeing the shit now.

Remember when the coach could afford to take the whole team out for ice cream after the game? If you won you got the chocolate dip (thin, froze instantly, great shit). If you did win it was okay to be proud of it. You didn't rub it in anyone's face, but you didn't have to PC it either. You could run around acting like an idiot yelling "We won!" No one would shoose you.

Professional ball players were loyal to a team. They didn't swap uniforms every year. They made a fair living, not a ridiculous living.

Real hero's, like the astronauts.

Anyone remember whizzers? Seems like kids had a hell of a lot more toys to play with back then. Toys that were fun for adults also.

Fireworks. You could actually shoot them off yourself. Bottle rockets were my favorite.

hahaha yes, ok I do know that hair do. Never was mine lol....

Oh my sir, you bring back so many memories.....

Roman candles and blowing up ant hills with black cats.....

you are making me smile.

I remember being sent to the gas station with a gallon can and quarter to get gas for the lawn mower.

I also remember the spanking I got for buying candy with the change on the way home!

AMAZING!

Fireworks available downtown and for five bucks you could go for a week.

Cut-offs and swimming at the river. Going out at night and looking up at the stars and wondering where the Apollo Spacecraft was.

How about going out with the coach and not having people thinking that he was some kind of pervert with the young boys and/or girls he was watching over at the time.

Being able to wave at people and they waved back. Even if you really didn't know each other, it was still ok.

35 cent gas, big cars, wondering about the girl down the street, and if she would like you or not when school started.

First date and first kiss. First exploration of bodies, more like dares than anything. WOW! I just remembered...damn I forgot that I promised to not say anything about that one either. Oh Well. ~smiles and shrugs shoulders~

Many secrets I keep. some are harder than others.
