Real life based or fiction?

My stories have a bit of truth in each of them, just a tiny bit. I use real-experiences and then create fantastical stories around a snapshot or fleeting daydream.

I have a non-con story about a woman in a haunted house, for example. Did I ever assault anyone in a haunted house? No, but I had some sexy fun with a gf one time and the thoughts sprang from there. Maybe 98% of it was fiction but there are enough layers of reality to sift through to make the story as realistic and compelling as possible.

I think a site-wide average is north of 90% of being completely fictional. It's probably 95% or so but some of us have had some experiences and adventures and a fun game is deciding if the story really happened or not.

I think, in general, not that many people write about their real stuff. For the purpose of entertainment we tend to colorize some things! :)

I have only 1 autobiographical story out of 28 (and it's still only 80% based on truth).
So it's rather rare, but I incorporate my first time sex experience in one other story, and my first boyfriend personality/background and looks - in another story. So, some elements in my stories are true, but 95% is not :)

After lurking in here for a couple months I am curious, how much of what is being written is 100% fiction/fantasy versus how much is true or based on events that actually happened. I get the impression that the vast majority are completely works of fiction but I have seen some comments about characters or events at least being partially based in reality. The reason I ask is because besides changing names and minor adjustments to help the story flow better for the reader, the series I am currently working on are actual events from when I was in my mid to late 20s. The next series will probably be the same except based on more recent events that involve my husband. After that I think it would be fun to try some fiction but I wouldn't even know where to start.
All of my stories have at least one link to something that happened in real life - I find it much more exciting to write that way, when I'm inspired by actual events, people, or scenarios.

Interestingly I did write my first ever autobiographical story a few months ago. It didn't score the highest, or get the most views, but the engagement in the comments was unlike anything I'd ever seen - that story has four or five times as many replies than the rest of my submissions.

I think this shows that real life stories, while obviously far rarer on this site, can really capture people's imaginations in a way that other stories might not be able to.

As soon as I read the words, "this is a true story", or "this really happened to me", I suspect it's just made up.

That said, unless you write what you know or at least have researched enough you know more than the average person, what you write will be difficult for most readers to believe. All my stories are based upon personal experience or on research sufficient that I know what I'm writing. Many of my characters are Franken-characters, characters I've assembled after dissecting people I've know to fine both the good parts and the bad parts.
