Rambling Rosie's Retreat

I stopped reading his new stuff around 11/12 years ago after I had my son because my brain just couldn't focus anymore.
My plan is to start with the familiar and then by the time I get to the ones I haven't read I'll be on a roll and it won't feel like a task anymore.
The Dark Tower series is my all time favorite. I'll refrain from nerding out on you but if you ever wanna tall about them, you know where I am. ;)

And I get it. My brain has more trouble focusing on reading lately but I can do an audiobook no problem. Brains are weird!

I can't wait to get to those ❤️

Please, nerd out 😍

Yeah audio books have helped a lot. I've been listening to the LOTR read by Andy Serkis and he's just wonderful. He does individual voices and sings all of the songs and it's joyous.

I've listened to that one as well. A good narrator is everything. Voice makes or breaks so much.

Absolutely.
That's even more true in the NSFW audios that I also enjoy 😉
The wrong pitch or bad pacing can throw the whole thing off and is very frustrating 🤭
Abso-fucking-lately.

I will return a book so fast for bad narration.
And yes... I'm super aural so a voice can ruin me in the best ways.

<pause while I daydream>

And people's voices are so distinct. There's a funny story there about an alt who though I wouldn't recognize his voice for another time.

I got the signal. Let's do this. ;)

The Dark Tower as a whole is just so weird and wild and imaginative. The way he weaved in all the pop culture references (including himself!) was very cool and unique. Western and sci-fi are such a cool combo.

Very excited they're giving a live action series another shot. Could be awhile with the strike going on though sadly. But some of the book material could work so beautifully in live action form.

Oh god really? 😂

There's this one guy I found on reddit I think and he sounds exactly like David Harbour 😍😍
They're just little 20 minute moments. I really need to investigate the novels (and then melt into the ground)

You and I have geeked out on this but I could not be more excited Mike Flanagan is doing it. He is pure perfection and the only one who could do it justice.

Know what's a great audiobook? Steven Weber reading IT. Very animated, does different voices. Very well done.

I am so very excited for this too. The movie was... a thing that exists I guess. Someone who actually really cares about the story with the time and resources to do it justice is a dream.

Oh yeah the movie. Lol. Idris aside it was so forgettable. It felt like a made for SyFy TV pilot. It had the vibe of someone skimming the Wikipedia pages for the Dark Tower series and writing a screenplay based on what they could remember. Such a sad, wasted opportunity. But glad they're trying again. 😎❤️

I literally made it 20 mins in and just turned it off. Sigh...
I'm sure they'll have to trim a lot of things off from the books but as long as the actual heart is there and characters stay true then I can forgive it. Like LOTR, the movies lost loads of details - Tom Bombadil for example - but the heart is the same and that's why they're still so well loved.

I totally agree. Movies and TV are just another interpretation.
But this was just taking an idea and making a different simpler sorry that had nothing to do with a really rich world.

Fingers crossed Mikey boy does better!

I remember Idris and Mcconaughey on twitter before it was released quoting the script to each other and I got so excited but it was just an empty gesture.
