Purse Posse! Bag People!

I was given a bag of similiar proportions as a gift last June. It was a darker khaki green colour fabric, middleweight cotton on the outside, and an olive green, lightweight cotton lining. The director and site supervisors had made them for staff from out two sites. I did not begin to use it until August. Within a week the lining threads were splitting and the straps were giving way where they joined to the bag proper. I sewed the straps back on with a box and then a cross within the box.
The director stated that they had sewn a billiion times over the straps, I didn't argue, after all what do I know about reinforcing areas that a subjected to stress? I was witness to her bag's straps pulling free one day... and I suggested she try sewing the little box and the x within the box where the straps are attached to the bag... she again stated she saw no value in that method.

My daughter gifted me with a bright pink bag that is a heavy canvas with wide straps and the extra reinforcement at the straps. She was shocked that I had said I liked the colour when we were at the store. It was a very pleasant surprise to see it in a Christmas present. I really enjoy a properly fashioned bag. I have my current crochet projects stowed in the pink bag. My left hand is not yet ready for extended periods of crocheting yet. Which saddens me.

Your AV and comments about the reinforced straps and bright pink color all reminded me of a bag that I made years ago. Not the best workmanship, but I sewed the X!

After one bag and one fabric bowl I decided to stick with art quilts and leave more structured endeavors to others.

I love the colors! It looks really nice.

Now show us some of your art quilts!

I love looking at things everyone makes.
I put several in your hobby thread (been awhile) so some are repeats.
Unfortunately, I didn't think to document with good quality photos and some I no longer have. I've learned my lesson!

Hand painted background with black overlay, reverse appliqued.

I'm sounding like Horshak over here. With each picture my "Oh Oh OHHHHHs" are getting louder.

Really nice work!

I've admired the Hawaiian technique for a long time, but it scares me. Do you find it challengingly difficult?

I'm really impressed!

Thank you for sharing.

*big smile*

Thank you for the compliments! I really enjoy seeing your work, too. :)

I've always loved Hawaiian designs, but yes, they can be intimidating. Esp. the full size quilts. I don't know how the quilters manage such large pieces of material while appliquing. I began with block patterns and have progressed to wall hangings. There are some ways to make it easier, such as using a freezer paper templates under or over the top layer. Also, I started with large, rounded shapes and slowly progressing into tighter points and curves. I picked up quite a few patterns on my trip so I'm set for a long time.

This is a fun site and her books are wonderful.

And in true quilter's fashion, I'm working on a Hawaiian pattern, as well as another Japanese theme and STILL don't have this one quilted. UFOs everywhere!

One of the many joys of this Hawaiian trip was the opportunity to watch you work at something you love. The passion to create is a beautiful thing, and I truly feel privileged to be able to witness it.

Thanks, sweetie. It's the same for me when I get to witness your photography and cooking.

It's great to be able to share these types of endeavors with other creative people. Even though the mediums may not be the same, there's a certain understanding of the process and appreciation for the time/skill involved.

Any one up for a creative lit divas get together at the Houston Quilt Market?

We've done a threads about it the last couple of years.
You know we live about 15 minutes away from where it's held, right? Casa Someplace is open for said festivities if you're interested. Just let me or Bluebie know.

(I'm planning on taking a week off from work for Quilt Market and Quilt Festival. I SWEAR I'm going to take some classes this year for sure!)

The slippers are great. I want them.

Also, I think you should make me a purse. I'd pay you. I have in my head exactly what I want but I can't find it anywhere. Very frustrating.

You do great work.
