Pretty fail safe method for me is:

Bulb enema 30 minutes before play to clean throughly.
Boy Batter Coconut Oil Lube
Good sized Plug inserted for about 10 minutes to stretch and warm up muscles and rectum
Apply generous lube and almost any size will work. This one is 9" and over 2" thick and goes in to the hilt like a breeze.
