Real newbie author here:

I very recently received an email sent through Literotica, complimenting my writing and encouraging me to write / publish more.

I first (and only) published in late 2007. One story, two chapters:

http://www.literotica.com/stories/showstory.php?id=339998

http://www.literotica.com/stories/showstory.php?id=340050

It's an experience based story that resides somewhere between reality and fantasy. As the saying goes, "The names were slightly changed in order to perplex any unwitting participants." Or something like that.

The two chapters have ~28,000 reads, 39 votes, 4.00 and 4.42 ratings. Three positive comments on the first chapter, none on the second. As a first time author, I think that's terrific!

I like to write porn, and there is definitely more where that story came from. I am also highly motivated by someone going "OH WOW."

My question is whether the above mentioned email request is from a real fan, or is it an automated appeal from Literotica?

Might affect my future efforts.

Happiness,

Boonter

It's sent from a reader through Literotica. If you want to reply to it (if there was an email address provided) you have to change the address in the "To:" field on your email to the address that appears in the feedback. If it's anonymous feedback, you can't reply, it'll just go to an unknown place. :)

Why have you waited so long to post more if you've gotten such positive feedback? Anyway a belated welcome to the AH and Literotica.

Checks are better, but folks here seem to prefer the points and gold stars.

Contrary to what some may say, writing is often it's own reward, as well as the response it garners from its readers. Not everything is about money. ;)

Welcome to the AH.

Hi, Boonter and, even though you have been around a long time already, welcome to the AH. I think everybody would agree that it's nice to get emails or other feedback like that; I certainly do. :D

If there is an email address attached, it is from a real fan, and you should respond to it. If not, it almost certinly is genuine. I can't imagine Lit. sending such emails. They get enough stories as it is.

Not true at all.

Points and gold stars are for dilettantes. Dabblers. No one takes them seriously or respects their wares. And talent and genius gets the same esteem that a hack gets.

You see people here begging for votes, but how many votes would they get if the voters had to pay to cast a vote.

If you wanna know if you have the right stuff, send your stuff to a real editor who buys stories.

I have, and been published. Means as much to me as the gold stars. ;)

I have about thirty stories that have been published, and I was paid a pittance for the right to do so one time. Unless you are taling about big bucks, the gold stars and strokes mean more to me too.

SOUR GRAPES guys.

The last thing any writer wants is mom & sis applauding what they do or begging their halfwit friends to vote for them.

I don't here for points, gold stars, or votes.....

Having made that statement I will also add that I appreciate feedback, even the infantile, racist, anonymous cretins who think that I really give a rat's toenail about thier 'criticism'. I write first and foremost for myself but feedback is always appreciated.
An editor (not from Lit) pointed out something obvious to me this past week, something that I should have noticed but did not because I'm too close to the story.

I don't see where you need to choose. Points, gold starts, and money all together are very nice. Of course when you don't have any work to actually show, you can pretend you do it somewhere else for money.

Even a pathetic racist like me is right pretty nearly all the time. I mean, even if a Canadian is as good as an American, how flattering is that? It's like bragging that you eat shit and howl at the moon, too. However you insult a group, what you say is almost guaranteed to be true, unless theyre space aliens from Massachusetts.

When I accept my Nobel Prize for Literature, I plan to look into the camera and warn the world that your books are the last goddamned place to go for inspiration or instruction. Then I'll bury my finger in my nose and hook a big booger to fling at you.

I can comfortably wait for that to happen. :D

Especially because you actually have to have a book written to be considered for the Nobel Prize for Literature.

Something, Boonter, that should be mentioned is that one should never feed the trolls. It always escalates into a bit of nastiness.

*snerk*

Seriously, though, you operate under a false assumption. Not everyone thinks the way you do, James.

But just go on trying to poke sticks in people's eyes. And when you get one of those horror stories published, let us know. I'd like to know where to buy it. ;)

I believe that what goes on between Jimmy Bob's ears can be considered 'thinking' only through courtesy.

Welcome to the AH, Boonter.

ROB

What did H.L. Mencken say about you? Oh!! Yes! "Calling ROB stupid is pure flattery."

SWEETWITCH

No doubt youre an authority of trolls....probably intimately familiar with them. Do you by chance sleep beneath a bridge?

Welcome to the AH. I do respond to those who send emails that leave me their email addresses. I write because I enjoy writing.

I really didn't mean to get something started that has no conclusion!

I really just wanted to know if the anonymous email I received was genuine. From the above answers, I conclude that it was.

I started writing porn because it's interesting to plan, develop and (especially) tell a story. I have numerous stories 'in work.' I've tried working from an outline (as I do for paid technical writing), or writing by starting at the beginning and going to the end. It's just the getting to 'the end' that seems to be my hang up.

Mostly due to reading the AH board over the last several days, I've resumed work to actually complete a story that I had previously outlined. We'll soon see how that goes.

Thanks for all the replies and thoughts!

Happiness,

Boonter

No apologies needed, Boonter. Most of us usually just ignore JBJ. Just think of him as the poo-flinging monkey.

Think nothing of it, dear. This sort of thing happens all the time. Just do what the rest of us do--laugh at him. He's kind of entertaining, in a sick sort of way.

Enjoy your time here. You will find many incredibly intelligent and worthwhile people. Unfortunately, trolls and poo-flinging monkeys are all part of it.

Welcome once more.
