what was the best advice you received that you actually heeded? be as profound, pithy or puerile as you like. :>

p.s.: as always, my answers later, yadda yadda yadda...

i've never been very good at taking advice (or looking for it for that matter) because i'm a hair too arrogant to allow myself to think i need it... a huge character flaw of mine.

in any event, the best advice i ever got IRL was to go back to college... and the comfort i received from peers over my concern of starting again at the age of 26. it was well worth it.

Keep your fucking stick on the ice!!!!!

Oh wait, you said advice that I actually heeded, didn't you? (It was a long night tonight) :(

I must not listen to much advice, I can't think of anything, oh wait you know that thing you are told when you are young "You think you know it all now, but just wait until you get older, then you will realise just how little you knew."
That one is true.

I'll have to think about this one, but even so, I think I could probably only come up with a "Top __" list.

Off the top of my head is one from my mom: Credit cards aren't free money. They're a tool you only use for convenience, only when you have, and will have the money in your bank accounts to pay for what you buy when the bill comes. You always have to pay the entire bill when it comes every month.

That was when I was 7 or so. We charge just about everything, and have always paid the entire huge sum in full monthy.

Good Question

Try to treat people the way I would want to be treated.

Lord knows I have tried.

My mom used to say, "Make sure your underwear doesn't have holes in it. What if you get hit by a bus?"

"Make sure you always put on deodorant." Same reason.

I guess when you get hit by a bus, you end up with your arms over your head, and your panties showing.

OK, seriously. The best adive I've ever heeded was "never go to bed angry."

It's worked for 12 years! :)

"Be polite and respectful to the people you work with. You never know when you're going to need their help."
This was from my mom, a nurse, who had emphasized the importance of teamwork among healthcare workers when I started working in the hospital.

LOL if you end up in the ER they'll cut your panties off anyway....and according to Gil they prefer you not to have anything on your skin if you go into surgery ;) :D

Back on topic......in the days after I left my husband, a friend told me to "keep your head up, look the world in the eye". It was amazing how much better and more confident it made me feel, in those days of depression and upheaval.

Don't play with it or you'll go blind.

Didn't heed it and admittedly I need reading glasses now.

you know! sometimes people only needed to be listened, all they want is someone who listen to what they are saying, advises only gives an option

Dad said this when I was 8 and came home crying because no one wanted to play with me

He who walks alone makes his own rules.

Though I cannt say it to him today thankyou Dad.

My father told me when I was younger "never assume anything." They're making and ass out of u and me. it stuck.

Friends don't let friends drive drunk. Party smart - party safe.

What goes around, comes around

Fool me once, shame on you. Fool me twice, shame on me.

When in doubt - throw it out

We are all ignorant - just about different things.

Never trust someone who calls you "buddy"

Hey Bud...my Dad always said most people don't know how to make decisions and remember that most decisions don't need to be permanent....you can change them

My father always used to tell me "You can't believe everything you read."

As one who spends a TON of time on the internet, both on forums an in MMO games, I've been horribly lax in following that rule, and I've paid for it. I'm a lot better about it now.

*Best* advice I ever received and followed?

Would have to be:

"You need to go to the hospital... NOW!"
