What it means is that he has genuine approval from a majority of the American public, and that drives the people who disagree with his policies crazy. It's not any more complicated than that.

And that in a nutshell is why there is so much vocal and mean-spirited dialoge on this board between Americans. Policies are swinging more to the right and those who are left of center are none too pleased about it.

Are you saying that it's ok for Americans to bash Americans and America, but people from other countries don't have that right?

I know you did not ask me but, I do not see a big difference in how Brits and Americans view their respective governments. I think there are detractors as well as those who are not, on both sides of the Atlantic.

I'm not really up on exactly how popular Blair is at the moment, but my general feeling is that he's fairly popular but taking a lot of heat at the moment for his strong support of Bush. Is that not about right? I mean, if there was an election tomorrow, he would be re-elected easily, no?

I think one of the main differences between the US and UK is that you guys can remove a sitting Prime Minister more easily through a vote of confidence than we can through an impeachment and trial.

Because of that, I think that americans may possibly have more of an attitude of, "Well, we elected this dope, and we're stuck with him for at least four years, so we might as well try and support him."

This DOES NOT mean that most of the time there is not a LARGE and VOCAL minority that is constantly criticizing almost everything as sitting president does. Every president has to deal with it. Soem are more popular than others, but we have a very well-balanced political system, and that makes it very stable which is a good thing.

Yeah, go figure... Read some of p_p_man's thread and they don't get near the attention this one did. His are usually alot more vicious than I, personally, have been here. I don't understand that. And my intent was not to ever bash anyone, anywhere. The point is pretty clear. He and a few others come here and start threads that are derogatory to America. It does get old to see that constantly.

blair would be elected easy but partly because our 2nd party is in danger of becoming our 3rd party i think at the moment blair gets more flak about his home policys rather then foreign ones

That's about right. The only people that he really upsets anymore are newbies who stumble in here and can't believe what he's saying.

The rest of us just slap him in the head a couple of times and move on to the next thing.
