where arrogant, Americans posted threads that attack and bash Canadians, Australians or Brits.

If that were to happen we would be en masse attacked for our arrogant, bigotted ways. But it seems okay for us to be YOUR targets.

I really am tired of this. Am I alone?

I don't know, are you?

Well, if you are, Rosie, I'll be happy to come over and keep you company.

But we deserve it since we're all assholes, rose.

No, you aren't alone.

LOL RED

Guess where I am going? Change of AV should clue you in. Someone want to come wash my back? ~wink-wink~

I am not bashing the US. Just making a point of view on the way the world seems to be turning. It is not only the US, Britian is wanting to drop steel balls on Iraq.

Sorry if it seemed to be picking on you, but I was trying to enclude the world.

No, you aren't alone.

The problem is this celia: WE have a free and open press in America. Every single bad thing that happens here is seen and heard all over the world. It is easy for others in other nations to pick up on all the BAD things and capitalize on them. OOPS, I said capital-ize, and they are all socialists. LOL

If our press was state run as is the case elsewhere, we could control our presence and look real good to everyone, everywhere, at all times.

I do agree with you.

I play Backgammon at a game site. I play people from all over the world. It has been the most educational and enlightening experience I have had on the 'net.

I have made many friends from Australia, Canada, Britain and Germany. None of them have engaged in the type of America hating that I have seen here.

It disappoints me a great deal to see the meanness and the intolerance of others.

It is state run

The corporate mega-media is not entirely state run, but on key issues like war, it is for the most part merely a propaganda arm of the U.S. government. Actually, the relationship is symbiotic: the government is controlled for the most part by the giant corporations.

Scrub a dub dub time? I'll be right over!
;)

I disagree RED, but you never doubted that for a moment.

Let's go back to big things like the Pentagon Papers, Watergate, and numerous other things that the press has brought to the public light of day.

It's all about the open and free press in the America that the foreigners pick up on and make hay of.

Well I have to say, as a Yank living over here in the land of rain and stingy sandwiches, I have learned to let it roll like water off a duck's back. I meet a lot of people who ask me what I think about things, not because they are genuinely interested in anything I have to say as an American, but because they want to use that as an opening to launch into a diatribe about what they think. It's usually pretty easy to tell if that's what they want too, so often now I'll just cut to the quick and say, "Well, you seem to want to tell me what YOU think, so you go first." So I let them go on for a bit, nod politely, and excuse myself.

What I find most interesting is that the best conversations that I have with people about the US are the ones I have with folks from Eastern European and African countries, as they do in fact seem interested in talking WITH me, not AT me - like the majority of the Brits.

I hope you don't think the US is the only country with a free press because if you do you are terribly uninformed.

Did I say that anywhere on this thread? Either add something intelligent or go on your way please.

It's the old old story. Everyone wants to bash the most succesful. In the majority of cases it's jealousy in the others paranoia.

Have a look at some of the threads where your fellow country men bash the Brits and Europeans. It's banter in the main.

There are, of course, exceptions to everything, hence the disclaimer in my sig line.

Thank you for your thoughtful post. I try to remind myself, by looking at my MSN friends list, that there are some wonderful Europeans out there, who like me and do not do so, IN SPITE of the fact that I am an American.

Yes we do bash back on threads. But not until *they* bash first. And I have yet to see a thread started with the intent of bashing Brits or Aussies.

Now I really do need to go bathe. ~smile~

I have seen a number started with the intent to bash Canada however. I think sometimes, in the heat of an argument, there's a tendency to lump countrypeople into one large group and tar them with the same brush - I know I have probably been guilty of making statements along those lines. However, as much as I dislike certain condescending and arrogant attitudes of SOME Americans, I know better than to think that all are the same - in fact, there's very many that I like.

I'd like to see a thread that was seriously meant to bash Canada. I've started a couple that were meant purely for comedy purposes, but I don't rmember any that were seriously meant to bash you guys.

Believe it or not, most Americans have quite a fondness for our neighbors to the north.

Oh yeh, most are started with jokes of one kind or another, and just evolve into a battle later. The one most recent that I can think of was the one about Canada notifying its citizens of the new US crackdown on border crossings.

That was my point though, that even when the arguments get heated, and insults are exchanged back and forth - in the end, I think both countries genuinely like and rely on the other - it's just a patriotic mess, really. Who loves their own country better.

All threads evolve into fights if they live long enough.

So many stubborn, intelligent people here - and then the others as well. :)

It's the others you have to worry about!

In those sort of threads most of us post with tongue firmly in cheek.:D

You have to, I think. Taking some of these too seriously could give a person grey hair. It's so hard to read tones on the computer at times though - especially if you don't know a lot about that person's style.

Do you realize you can be a total fucking cunt to very established and intelligent members of this board?

I'm kinda sick of your arrogant ways to be honest. You come on here spewing shit you probably heard on the local Republican radio and most of it is Mickey Mouse politics shit that has no substance. And yet, when a poster, such as Azwed who has proven himself to be not only intelligent, but thoughtful, and almost one of the most non-partisan posters on this thread, you treat him like a dog that has been spanked.

Know who you are talking to and what they are on this board before you dismiss them with some grand dame waive.

I was thinking the same thing about your post. You are propogandistic. You like to hold high your flag, and your free speech, and the free press, as if they are a tool for yellow journalism.

That sickens me.

ouch.
