Phone Geeks!

I have the Resurrection variant on my Honor 5X and it's fantastic.

I kinda posted that for you knowing the OPO relationship.

I did flash it with OPO's own OxygenOS to try it but I wasn't a fan. Went back to CM pretty quickly.

Google Nexus 5X and Samsung Galaxy S5 Active.

I have been using the Nexus 5X got 2 months now. Smooth operator!

Only complaint is volume buttons not being very tactile.

Updated to Android 7.0 Nougat last Friday.

You can get the 32 GB version for 239 shipped taxes in.

Got my wife this week a brand new Samsung Galaxy S5 Active. She needed a tough phone.

Very nice build quality.

Updated to Android to latest 6. something Marshmallow last week (Att Samsung)

We got the 16 GB (you can add) version for 220 shipped taxes in.

She is a very happy camper with that.

That's a tough call because I'm a die hard Samsung guy, too. BUT, for under $200.00, the Honor is by far the superior value. No one is going to beat the camera on a Sammy but the performance of the Honor 5X is truly wonderful.
Plus you can factor unlock it, then root the fucker.

Got it and it's pretty sick. Super snappy and w/o all the bloatware as advertised. It has a couple small Google replacement apps which are better than the Google versions.
4GB of RAM and 64GB storage, you can't go wrong, especially with the fingerprint sensor.

I dug this thread up because I'm thinking of upgrading my Galaxy S3. I can buy an S7 for $200 from Sprint, but I'm curious about the Moto. Do you know if there's a big difference between the Moto g4 and the g4+? The g4 is the same $200. I've always bought cases, but the whole custom thing on the Moto seems to negate that. Is it sturdy and "protected" enough as is? I'm also a big Samsung guy (phone, TV, Tablet) so I'm fairly sure I'd be happy with an S7. I think the Edge is neat, but I'm not paying an extra $100 for it.

Thoughts?

I'm not a phone geek by any stretch of the imagination but I do like my g4 very much. I couldn't see the value to me of the extra cost of the g4+ but if the finger print scanner is important then I'd go for it.

I bought mine from the UK as they're not for sale in NZ yet so I don't know anyone else with one to compare.

The cost difference here between an s7 and a moto g4 is huge. Like 4 times the price.

Sprint (my carrier) is offereing the S7 for the same price as the Moto G4. I'll probably go for it.

I probably would (at the same price) purely because the moto g4 isn't waterproof. I'm not a Samsung fan though. I've gone off them like I went off Apple.

As stated, I loved my S5 and the Nexus line for that price is a steal. Nice pull.

I cannot complain a single bit about my G4 Plus. It's the shit. The camera is on point and it's fast as fuck.
I use cases and tempered glass on all my phones. "Slimness" isn't a factor for me.
The Note 7 is being recalled because the fucker is exploding.

But it's also the best unit on the planet.

I'm looking forward to the Z line. If the Google Pixel isn't a gem, I'm gonna get me one.

For you, Liar.
HASSELBLAD TRUE ZOOM REVIEW

I did some more online sleuthing last night. I seems like the S7 is a better phone by a few comparisons. There are some other specials for online upgrades, so I think I'm pulling the trigger.

See how fast you need to pull the trigger and if the btach your getting has the exploding battery issue. Read these first to be sure.

It's the best screen ever made and the specs are incredible.

If you buy a Samsung, root it and unlock it the minute you get it. Then remove all the fucking bloatware they pile onto them.

I've just read that S7s are being recalled so that deal might be off.

Huh. D00d has me on iggy.

Word. When he gets that far, I'll point him in the right direction.

I've decided to have the new Xperia X.

Good reviews. Seems Sony is making up for the past few flops with this one. It also seems to be a bit pricey for the specs but if you like Sony, it's all worth it.

I bought an S7 at Best Buy mobile and it came with a Best Buy $150 gift card scanned right there, so I paid $65 and change with tax!

Oh, bear in mind it's a federal crime to unlock a phone in the land of the free.

Nice! Review please when you get a feel.

DTV didn't get me.
The 2 biggest reasons I decided to upgrade was that the USB port on my S3 is starting to get goofy with certain cables and the 4g was pretty slow, and even getting slow on WIFI. A guy at the Best Buy store said a carrier change might not be needed if I had new hardware, and Sprint is much cheaper than Verizon (who I was considering switching to).

Well, I think I'll need to use the Samsung charger on this, because my cheapy cable still didn't charge it fully while I slept. That was an experiment anyway.

Today I took it off WIFI to try out the 4G at my house. Websites and Twitter app both loaded lightning fast compared to the S3. I also decided to try the included headphones, and have been streaming Amazon Prime Music for a good while now, and both the streaming on 4G and the sound of these earbuds is really good. And it hasn't eaten the battery away much at all.

I like the feel and weight of the phone a lot, and really dig the metal "ring" design. That said I just ordered 2 different cases from Amazon, including one with a compartment for IDs/cards. My thought on that one is that I'm a terrible business man and often forget to grab business cards when I'm out and about. The biz cards also get beat up in my pocket, so this will hopefully be a good solution.

It comes with a micro to normal USB adaptor, which I think is pretty cool. I'm going to try to email something from my flash drive to see how that works.

It recognized my Chromecast and i was able to send a YouTube video to my TV as expected.

The pool game I play a lot loads super fast, and plays great.

Like all Samsung products, the screen looks great. I like the "always on" deal for the clock, instead of having to actually hit the button and light up the whole screen just to see the time.

I was lucky, as the local Samsung rep was at the Best Buy Mobile satellite store and was able to get some really important things off my old phone as well.

Do you outright own the phone? Or is that a 24 month commitment coupled with monthly costs?

Beautiful phone!
