I know your statement is semi-serious at best, but it got me thinking. Most addictions that I'm aware of depend on more-or-less immediate forms of gratification to be satisfied. Writing is hardly that, even for the most fevered scribes amongst us.

Late to the party but I'll still chime in. A great deal of the reason I write is because of the immediate gratification. Sometimes the gratification is so immediate that I need to stop the writing session in order to go take care of business.
