And what about paying taxes on this income?

I hope someone might be able to help me with this. I am looking to publish a novel. Excessia pays the authors through pay pal. Can someone explain this? Do I set up a pay pal account with my real name or my pen name? Then do I set up a separate savings account for the money, that is, if I sell any books?

And what about paying taxes on this income?
I know that many of you are successful Excessia authors. Any help you can give me would be much appreciated.

Thanks everybody. I guess I don't want to give out my checking account # because if it were to be compromised I wouldn't be able to pay bills.

Am I being irrational? How safe is pay pal? At one time with my old computer I kept getting emails saying someone was trying to get into my pay pal account through Ebay but I didn't remember having one so it was confusing.
The only thing the Excessia web site had about it was that you need a paypal account to publish with them. That and a good story. Are they a reputable company? And is $600 really all I should hope to expect in yearly sales?
While I'm waiting to hear back from lit agents I thought I'd do more reearch on what is out there. Does anyone have thoughts about other e-book or regular print publishers that they've had good dealings with?

Paypal is known for their honesty; in fact that is their stock in trade. Even so, you could open a a checking account just to deal with them, if you want to.
Those emails you get are phishing expeditions, trying to rip you off. We all get them, asking for information on bank accounts and credit cards and paypal accounts.Ignore them.
You can hope to get as much as you want, but don't count on getting rich. I have two ebooks and have made less than $100 in almost two years. I am going to change them to another ebook publisher when I get around to it.![]()
What publishers are you with?

The ebooks are with Erotic Excursions and I have sold first printing rights to some stories to Group MVP, and they were published by Fallen Angels. Don't take this as a recommendation, because I would prefer to find someone from whom I could make more money.![]()
Thanks, Box, I have never heard of those publishers. Did they come recommended by another writer or did you find them on the Internet?

I can recommend one ebook site. The owner prefers to keep a stable of authors that regularly publish fantasy/sci-fi erotica. Generally the dirtier the better. Has to have a good plot around the smut though. And yes, they are picky.
Changelingpress All the submission guidelines are on the site and there are some fairly well known romance authors writing for this site under pen names. It gets pretty good traffic for being only fantasy/ sci-fi. Not sure of your style but hope this helps.
ps I am NOT affiliated with the site directly. Just happen to know the owner, but since I'm a reader not a writer I don't have anything to do with the business aspect.
Although paypal likes you to link to a bank account, there is no need to; you can get a check card from them and access your paypal funds directly. Your money is in an interest bearing checking account in some San Antonio bank, or something like that, that only handles Paypal accounts-- not matter how small or large, and your money is right at hand. You also retrieve some of the transaction fees by using your check card, which can make a substantial difference
I have been buying and selling via paypal since 2001 or whenever it got started. The customer services is excellent these days-- in the beginning it was a total cockup... and phone service is fast and I have been able to solve every problem quickly.
Paypal does NOT, EVER, send emails with a live link in them. NEVER. If you get one that says "click here" you are being scammed. And paypal will remind you of this policy several times a year.
Although Paypal will need to know who you are, your name need not appear on any sales transactions you have-- depending on how you set up your preferences.

I have had a checking account linked with my paypal account since I opened it (several years ago), and I have never ever had an issue with security (and you shouldn't as long as you don't click a link in a phishing email.)
I've had a paypal account for a couple of years, and I agree. However, they will come phishing, so just don't tell anybody anything. (Instead, send all your money to me.)![]()
