Pathfinder: Kingmaker Recruitment

Sorry to be cinical, but why does this always seem to happen?

Someone comes along and wants to start a game, gets people, gets all set up and ready to go, and then?

I've seen it too many times before, been a part of failed attempts to even get started more than I care to have been.

It gets frustrating.

That being said, if Apathetic has bailed on us then Sean, you have my support to keep a game going.

Yeah feels like this is dead before it even got close to seeing the light of day. If someone else wants to take a hand at running it I'm still here. :3

Yep, I'm in whenever someone decides to run things. Does anyone know if Naliria is still in or not? Her last post was putting her up her char, and nothing since.

paladin

Thinking of making a paladin of shelyn now a female, with an aldori dueling sword thinking human, taldan

Make her, worst case scenario is that come day after tomorrow I don't have a plan. That will have given him a full week to at least touch base with us and all. I'll set basic posting rules for my style either this afternoon or early tomorrow we can discuss some of the details since I know my style of mass RP is a bit more trusting than most are used to.

Sounds good, Sean.

How large is the party now? Looks like five or six?

Can do. I am at work right now but will flesh her out tonight and post her here. Is all piazo material available I have most of the necessary books: core, advanced players, advanced race, ultimate magic, ultimate combat, inner sea world guide, ultimate equipment, dirty books and all the companion, etcetera that has come out In the last few months

Okay. Since our host has clearly abandoned us I'm at least going to make an effort. We're gonna start with establishing some rules. Please don't take any of the clarifications as my talking down to you. I have no idea your individual experience levels and

1. No God Moding. This is kinda the Alpha rule. You don't get to pick how other PCs (player characters) react. For the most part I don't care what you do with the NPCs and I encourage you to use them within reason. What I mean is that if your character is supposed to be sexy and charismatic then yes the bar maids trip over themselves to get with you. It's part of your character the same way it's part of being James Bond that the girl serving the drinks just thinks your sexy.

We can have reasonable debate on this but really this isn't really up to discussion. I'm willing to allow exceptions to the rule but those mostly come down to things like "RUN" and it's assumed that any character without a pre-existing death wish is assumed to have followed the command.

2. Sex is great, try to keep it primarily in PM and there is a way we can link them later. Ideally you guys are going to be fucking each others brains out and I'll get my fair share in as well if the world is fair. But we can't let the story stall because two of you got into a really good session. So the story will go on while you lot fuck. Then we can share the details.

3. I know we all have actual lives and that shit sucks. General rule is you have 48 hours to post. If you haven't posted within that time the story moves on without you and rule 1 is bent. It's assumed that you just didn't have anything to say and you followed along with what the rest of the group went with. I'm willing to discuss this but far to often I've seen RPs end because someone didn't post something that likely would have been, I follow the leader, but since they didn't post nobody else did and since nobody else did the RP was ended. We might fail but not for some predictable shit like that.

4. While I'll roll actual dice if I feel it's necessary and post them take a look at your stats (and if you want change them around now and state it) if you've got low Intel and Wisdom (we can debate on what goes where if you guys like) but you don't get to Batman your way out of a situation. I don't care if YOU already figured out what the story is your character is a moron who couldn't possibly have figured it out. Same thing if your charisma is low, you aren't seducing the information out of the barmaid even if you've noticed that she's got the keys on her hips. YOU as a player might have figured out the answer but it's not an option to your character.

None of that means you can't try. I can hit on Kim Kardashian but I can tell you right now the results of me trying that are. What I'm saying here is be aware of what your character is supposed to be capable of and try to keep that separate from what YOU know.

I would like something similar to 4th Editions Passive Perception and Insight and I'll get back to you guys if I come up with an idea for that. Basically it would be me PMing you guys with stuff you notice because you've got hit Wisdom. Kinda like how Batman always knows when he's being followed or being lied to but you have the option to share that with the group if you want or to keep it secret. Hopefully it won't come up too much. Also if any of you want to check for something without the group knowing feel free to PM me.

I think that sums up everything but I'll check to see if I missed anything and I apologize for being late.

I know this is early but no thread ever suffered from people posting too much. So any other input? Am I being too harsh to nice just right? Have you got any suggestions. My goal would be to "start" either tomorrow or Thursday with a soft start which is basically me setting up a tavern you all being there and (I'll admit I'm still looking at the King Maker stuff, least what's free) but you guys spending what RP wise is an afternoon. Which also if you haven't made friends you fucked up. I don't mean you need to get sexual but you should have a character by say the next seven days. (starting when I start the thread)

So, if I go with just playing Calyn, would that be alright? Or would you rather I play Vayah, or even both?

And if I'm not mistaken, Kingmaker is pretty much supposed to be about building a community of our own, right? Sort of like how Suikoden was?

If you want to run them both do it. I'm gonna run a roll call (ideally) in the morning) and I'll have a ton of NPCs both important and not but if you want to have them both do it.

It all sounds good to me. I'd prefer to start Thursday, as I'll be out of town tomorrow and I don't know what time I'll be back. You guys can start if you want, though, and I'll introduce Sebastian when I get back.

Stalling till Thursday is easy.

Further info. The campaign will start at a location known as the Launch. It's basically the last civilized place before you enter the Stolen Lands. Pretty much everybody heads out from this location and it's pretty well off, a good place to spend the coins you'll ever spend before you die doing something very stupid. :D

Also for equipment everybody has their choice of a horse or two donkeys and a cart so if you paid for that return that money to yourself and spend it again. If someone has a suggestion for how to separate gold into two groups make it. You guys are building a Kingdom, I don't want you guys penny pinching over how to get a few horses to bring the wood in to get a few buildings met. I don't however want you rocking +5 swords.

Oh as an additional to the above mentioned know your capabilities and don't step to far outside them, at least not while expecting it to work out for you also feel free to ask for a little help or for the world to bend to your will somewhat if your stats suggest it should. I don't think any of us here are Batman smart but if you've got an 18 intelligence guess what? You're at least on par with a Robin having a good day so just cus YOU can't solve a puzzle doesn't mean your character doesn't see the solution plain as day same with charisma. Just cus you can't talk your way out of a paper bag doesn't mean your thief can't convince a dragon that people don't taste good or at least go better with the right wine.

I make no promises but I hope to have the first post up tonight.

Kingmaker.

Sorry I was slow, I had to go and check on a few things with friends who had more experience. Introduce yourselves. I may interject but for the most part expect me to let you guys make your own fun until the next move which will happen (if I can keep a schedule) either Saturday or Sunday. I will try to always give 24 to 48 hours for you to respond cus I know you have lives and jobs.

Ravenloft kicked things off and quite well I might add. In the future I'll work on a color coding scheme so you guys know what's important to the group and what's stuff you aren't really supposed to give a shit about. I'm thinking some kind of bold or larger font for stuff I want everybody to know.

I will attempt (and fail horribly) to greet each of your characters with something even if it's as minor as a maid noticing you and offering to sit with you just so you know I did notice you, I do care, and I'm trying to get this moving and keep this moving. That said I know that one problem with RP's especially big ones is occasionally a few players really just rip out the gates and you show up after a one day of work sucked and there are three pages worth of shit that frankly mean nothing to you. So while I recommend at least a quick glance (and if you guys don't think it's too much trouble at leas try to mention the character(s) or just DM if you mean me) you are addressing in the title so people don't have to read through five pages of (y)our fluff cus we're RPing and I'll flat out admit. I'm a fucking fluffer. There might be bunnies running around once you get into the wilds cus I like throwing tons of shit at you and seeing what you react to.

Which also means just cus a crazy man offers you a wooden squirrel doesn't mean it's important to the plot. It might be, or it might be a wooden squirrel. Just cus a guy makes a splashy entrance doesn't mean you should pay any more attention to him than you would any other loud mouth. Doesn't mean you shouldn't. I do have a general plan (sort of) but a lot of the moving parts are moving parts.

Also while getting established might take a little while you should be thinking long term. And by long term I mean you lot are building a kingdom, you aren't rescuing a princess. Once you've set up base camp it might be weeks or even months (in game) between events and the more information you give me about what your character is going to be doing either in game directly or via PM the more I have to work with. I'll try to keep the action high but remember you need to be attempting to establish farms, get people to move to your town/kingdom, you guys get to NAME a kingdom, you need to defend it against all enemies foreign and domestic and all that rubbish.

I think I may just stick with Vayah.

Its easier to breath life into just one character.

Glad you approved of my post Sean.

You should really dig the second one.

Looking very good so far. Raven has set the standard I hope to see!

I have a soft spot for halflings and gnomes myself, so I love Vayah so far. Some of my best characters at the table have been the small ones.

I'll have to fit in Kali as soon as I can. Don't want to miss out on the fun.

Well show up soonish, I'll probably post a few more times over the weekend just getting some the characters that you may interact with set up, and trying to get my filing system back up so I keep track of who's who and what their motives are etc but while there will still be a little time left (and God knows I haven't been 100% dependable I'd like to get you guys on the road late Monday, and to a first encounter by Thursday.
