Spec Ops

Ah, hell. He vaguely came to the realization that that had been his favorite phrase. He put his hand over Crystal's mouth quickly and pulled her back against him to silence her. If she was any louder the entire ship's population of mutants would come and eat them for lunch. Dinner? Midnight snack? Yes, his internal clock told him it was somewhere around midnight now. He leaned down and whispered in her ear:

"Quiet. We don't want to die quite so soon."

He released her and stepped back. He looked over at the other woman whose name he coudn't recall. He tilted his head slightly. Odd. At any rate, he knew her enough to say that she was the assistant medical officer. He glanced around. Nothing interesting in this room. It was just an empty storage room, devoid of any real light and with a few scraps of cloth on the ground. He looked back at the two women.

"We need to get back to the bridge. The rest of the group is up there. As for Dan..." he looked at Crystal specifically. "I'm not sure he made it."

He glanced down at his belt and noticed the communicator there. He remembered turning on the spare ones the others should still have. He pulled it off his belt and tossed it to Crystal.

"Try and get the others on the line. They should be listening." he kneeled down, picked up a scrap of cloth, and cleaned the blood off his knives while he waited. He looked them over before returning them to their places. He noticed the small asian women moving over to him. He stood and looked at her. Had this been any other situation, he would think she was rather pretty under all the grime. But this wasn't any normal situation, and he wasn't thinking that.

"Yes?" he asked.

Annabel jolted awake as something pounded on the metal behind her, there was shouting.

Forgetting the lit up screen before her, she rose shakily from the captain's chair and moved to the right wall, crouching down behind a console as she heard the doors begin to shudder open, being pried apart.

Movement filled the room as figures ran in. Something snarled outside and something else above the door popped and sparked. A mechanical whir met her ears as the two interlocking metal plates pushed home, shutting off the room from the rest of the ship once more.

A woman yelled "Crystal! Dan!" Then there was more movement, "Hello!" Pause "Someone!?!" Anna had played this game before, she stayed quiet, keeping hidden.

From under the equipment she saw someone's hand reached into the light of the console at the captain's chair, touching controls. Another figure suddenly moved in the darkness and a powerful beam of light arced over the room slowly. It hovered over the open panel in the wall, then the figure moved toward it, setting down the light and starting to fiddle with something.

It was obviously a man, his bulky figure outlined by what little light bounced off the wall. Another joined him, she couldn't see the person and they spoke quietly, voices and words indistinguishable from where Anna's position.

Things made loud CLACK's in the dark and the lights suddenly began to flicker on. Annabel closed her eyes in pain and squeezed further back behind her console. The space was small but so was she.

Slowly opening her eyes, she realised it was no longer possible to see what was going on in the room, and so was surprised when the screen above her lit up and a voice echoed through the bridge.

It was the computer giving a status report. She hadn't heard that voice since before launch and her heart leapt with new hope for her situation. "Warning Alien lifeforms detected. Launching Protocol 89", Anna nearly jumped in shock. She had only seen one other being aboard the ship since waking, and he hadn't been alien, though the unexplained sounds in the dark still troubled her.

Coming out of her reverie, she realised that a woman was speaking to the computer. Her voice was somehow familiar though she couldn't put her finger on it. She heard the man speak up, mentioning space and orbit, then the cameras. "Affirmative, activating...camera's online" the hollow AI voice said.

'Holy shit!' She thought, 'if I can see then we can navigate. We can get to Tanis and get off this thing!' Her ambitions stirred after laying dormant so long. 'I have to do this right, or they'll get me'.

Ever so slowly she rose from behind her console, back against the wall, and raised the salvaged handgun in both hands. "Stop!" She yelled, her voice cracking from lack of use. "G-get away from my controls!"

Zora turned at the voice and raised her hands. It wasn't a mutant, duh because it was talking, but it had a gun. The only ones in the room was Chaska, Zora, Dennis, and the crazy gun toting bitch who eyes looked panicky. "We're not going to hurt you. We brought food and water." Zora didn't mention the weapons. She didn't wantt he girl to get scared and blast a new one into them all.

"Are you the captain?" Zora could barely remember. The girl looked famillar, but she had common features and with the grime she could even have looked vaguely like Chaska. "We're your crew. We're here to get to safety. We can navigate out of ..."

"Negative," PAL said. "Ship is offline."

"Than how do we surface?!" Zora yelled angrily. The ship didn't answer her.

Zora went back to the women. "What's your name? Have some food. Let's talk." Zora slowly turned to a bag of chips and slid them toward the woman with the gun. "We're tired and just want a safe place. Just want to sleep. Okay?"

Annabel's attention was drawn completely by the dark woman. Promises spilled from her lips, of safety and nourishment. She slid a crumpled bag across the floor, the contents rustled, tempting her, it was hard for Anna not to grab it. She hadn't eaten in two days, not since....well not since she got to the bridge.

The smell of food just sitting in front of her was hard to ignore. Anna's hands shook as she adjusted her grip on the pistol. "I'm n-not the captain" she stammered, the recent boost of adrenaline keeping her jittery. "Annabel Mocart, p-pilot second class, fourth rotatioin Corporal of the U.E.V. Pandorum. Who are you? N-name and rank!"

She was still trying to make out features on the three intruders, her eyes blurry and still adjusting to more light than she'd seen in weeks. Her body was starved for nutrition and she lost mental focus again as she took a step forward, foot nudging the bag as she pulled away from the wall. Anna's breathing began to quicken as she reached down to collect the food while trying to maintain her (shaky at best) aim with the heavy firearm in her right hand.

"Quiet. We don't want to die quite so soon." Spec Op's said after covering Crystal's mouth. By now, Crystal was slightly hysterical after losing her ex boyfriend. Her brown eyes flicked towards the door that had been slammed shut blocking Dan from entering. Tears slowly began to fall down her cheeks as Spec Op's moved his hand away from her mouth and stepped back.

Crystal could only bite her lip, trying hard not to sob. She had loved him and hadn't gotten a chance to tell him. Crystal wiped her tears away and forced herself to calm down. She was strong, independant, and she would get over this hard loss.

"We need to get back to the bridge. The rest of the group is up there. As for Dan..." he looked at Crystal specifically. "I'm not sure he made it."

Crystal let out a small squeak and nodded, trying to remain emotionless about the topic. When he threw her the communicator, she cleared her throat and pressed the button.

"Z-zora? Dennis? Can you hear me?" Came her muffled greeting. "It's Crystal."

Dennis Graham

Dennis looked at the new comer with his arms still crossed over his chest, where on earth did she get a gun? So far every weapon seemed to have disappeared from the ship. He watched as Zora slid the packet of chips over and how Annabel was it? picked up the packet with her aim really wavering heavily. He cleared his throat, he was sure that he would look rather menacing due to his height, but that wasn't entirely his fault was it?

"I'm Dennis Graham, I'm not sure if I have a rank, I do know that I'm an engineer. I would like to tell you more, but I know nothing further and I noticed that all personnel files is deleted"

Dennis gave Annabel an accusing stare

"Did you do it? And put that gun away, we are not one of those monsters..."

"Alien life forms"

Dennis looked at the main console

"Thank you PAL"

Dennis focused his attention back on the woman

"And we are tired and highly strung, so one twitch of your finger and you become a murderer"

Dennis unhooked the bag from his harness and placed it on the ground, if she wanted to shoot him, let her do so, he was hungry and had food. He was sure that Zora and Chaska wouldn't mind having a meal as well.

"Z-zora? Dennis? Can you hear me?...It's Crystal."

Dennis was surprised he didn't expect that, he unclipped his radio

"Crystal this is Dennis...are you guys alright? We are on the bridge and have restored most of the operating systems, we also found another survivor"

The large and imposing figure calling himself Dennis didn't seem to care much for her threats. He claimed to be an engineer and stated quite bluntly that the personnel files had apparently been deleted.

He glared at her and she froze in a half-crouch, nearly reaching the packet but not daring to take her eyes off of him.

"Did you do it? And put that gun away, we are not one of those monsters..."

"I h-haven't touched any r-records!" She said defiantly "The best I c-could do was get power to the main console". Anna was losing control of the situation, this man wasn't afraid of her.

The computer said something she was too distracted to catch and the man turned away. Annabel quickly snatched up the food stood again, the muscles in her arm sore with the exertion of keeping the gun up at arm's length and unable to stop trembling.

Dennis turned back to her, "And we are tired and highly strung, so one twitch of your finger and you become a murderer".

Anna hardly noticed as Dennis lay his pack on the ground, nor did she hear the radio chatter. For her the room was quiet as the gun clattered and food crumpled against the floor. "Too late" she whispered, face scrunching up in emotioinal agony, the shaking throughout her body having nothing to do with fatigue. She backed away to the wall, possesions forgotten as she began to sob with her head in her hands and tears streaming down her cheeks.

"..wan't my fault, it wasn't. He forced me, I had to.." she babbled to herself as she sat against the wall, incapacitated by her own misery.

Dennis Graham

With speed that would have made Leo proud, Dennis vaulted over the console between him and Annabel and rushed over to the discarded weapon. He snatched it up, ejected the clip, pulled back the action which should have ejected the chambered round, but revealed the gun to be empty and then he flicked the safety on. He tossed the pistol towards Zora and checked the clip to find it empty as well, he stuffed empty clip into his pocket, before turning towards the scared looking girl.

"OK OK Anna calm down please, I did not mean to upset you. Come let's have something to eat then we can put together what we know OK?"

Dennis held out his hand to Annabel, talking in the most soothing voice he could muster.

Crystal waited impatiently for someone to respond and then heard the familiar yet no so familiar voice of Dennis. She gave a silent sigh of relief and then clicked the button to respond to his question on the well being of the others. It only made her think of Dan and she hitched back a sob.

"Um, yeah I'm fine and Dan...well, we lost him." She choked back yet another sob. "I'm with Spec Ops right now." She said as she looked around in the room where they resided, unsure of where they were exactly. Though she was still upset about the loss of Dan, Crystal had to hold her own.

She was a strong independant woman and didn't need any man.

"I'm not exactly sure where we are . I'm certain we'll find a way to get up to the bridge, though." She looked at Spec Op for confirmation of what she'd just said. She was eager to be reunited with the rest of the group. The farther away from these monsters and the closer to her group; the better.

Spec Ops

Spec Ops turned to Crystal as he heard Dennis speak from the other side of the line. His voice had a slight worried tinge to it. Crystal responded and said they would probably find a way out. She looked at him for confirmation. He nodded at her, his face and body language revealing nothing. In truth, he didn't know if they would make it, but it helped with morale. He ran over a rough mental schematic of the ship. Standard design suggested that they they were a few hallways and a corridor away from a stairwell leading up. From there they could get to the bridge and hopefully their group could open the door from the inside now that it had power.

And hopefully they didn't get jumped by any more of those creatures. He didn't like the though of taking on another group. He glanced down at his leg. It had blood seeping from it, but the wound didn't look that bad. Keep going. It's only a flesh wound. The only way he would stop is when his job was done, and that time hadn't come yet. He still had things he needed to do. He looked over to Crystal and stood with his hands clasped behind his back, waiting for her to be ready to leave.
