EDIT: Official announcement is up here!

Throughout the history of literature, people have loved writing about temptation, and its cost. Faust and Mephistopheles: promise me your soul, and I'll give you what you want. The eternal adversaries of angels. Exotic horrors from beyond the walls of reality, reaching out with tentacles to suck - or fuck - your brains out. Or simply impish beings looking for a little fun.

Pandemonium challenges authors to write their best stories about or featuring demons. The good, the bad and the sexy. Horned and horny, tentacled and touchy, sweet, scary and seductive. Who's ready for some slaying and laying some demons?

Pandemonium 2024

Original post begins here:

I mentioned in an earlier thread that demons are a recurring feature in many of my stories. I seem to remember that someone else here likes demons too.

Anyone up for a Pandemonium* challenge? Stories about or featuring demons: the good, the bad and the sexy. Horned and horny, tentacled and touchy, sweet, scary and seductive.

So who's ready for some slaying and laying some demons?

* As we of course all know: besides its modern meaning of "chaos" (very apt for the AH), "pandemonium" is from the Greek pan demonion, literally meaning "collection of all demons" (as opposed to a pan theon, "collection of all gods").

After Courtney Crowe & my Pathfinder story I’m pretty much done with demon characters for the moment, but you guys have fun.

Also qualifying as demons: devils.

Not qualifying as demons, but allowed to be included: angels, archangels, principalities, powers, virtues, dominions, thrones, cherubim and seraphim.
Talk about a nice fat pitch right into @EmilyMiller’s sweet spot…

Well, that and I rarely get to show off the fact that 25 years ago I memorised the orders of angels.
I’d say I was impressed, but you’ve ruined a perfectly good quiet morning for me. Now I’m laying here with John Travolta as Michael, saying “I’m not that kind of Angel.” Running through my head trying to figure out what to do with it for a story. 😀😄😄

I’m into it. I also appreciate the etymology lesson. I haven’t delved much into pandemonium apart from my Halloween story; I’d be up for an excuse to explore some demon sex.

I could perhaps be interested. I've had a story involving Hades and Persephone in the back of my brain. You see Hades is a possessive husband, but not a passionate one. But the goddess of fertility needs more. For the months that she has to stay in the underworld, Hade's demons Envy and Lust have been seeing to her carnal needs. A LW story in hell. What could go wrong? :giggle:

Grigori and Nephilim?

I have an unfinished draft involving demons somewhere around. It'll be a while before I get to it, but I do want to finish that one.

Someone mention me?

Pretty sure there's some collusion going on here, but I can't prove it. :devilish:/😇
Between Em and myself? No, actually. I just came up with the idea this morning (CET, when you USians were fast asleep) when I was looking at Laurel's thread on challenges for 2024. Someone had mentioned "pandemonium" in one of the "words" threads, and its etymology was fresh in my mind. And I like writing about demons.

I literally just finished a story featuring my She-Demon character Cozbi, who I first introduced in The Devil And Angel Em, then wrote a backstory for in The Seduction Of Darkness.

The new one is a short stand alone, meaning readers won't need to have read the other two to follow the story.

Still needs some editing and tweaking before it's ready to publish though.

…sigh...

Every time I see the word “pandemonium”, my mind breaks it down into “panda” and “moan”, and the activity implied by the suffix. So, to me at least, the implication is vocal exotic bear sex. Considering that pandas have a rep for infrequent and unproductive intercourse when they deign to get around to it, “pandemonium” must be a very rare and poorly documented event by virtue of its rarity.

So working premise...

Demons operating real world as a company of professional assassins. The contact is one, Michael Venguer, you're a clever girl, you'll figure that out even though our MC doesn't. Only path to him is through his executive assistant; petite blonde with blue-green eyes, about 5'1, with an agenda of her own. MC has no idea what she is in for.
