Hi Rumi, Glad you asked and aren't just assuming we are all lumped together.ruminator said:Greetings all...
I don't mean to interrupt but could someone explain to me in simple terms what Satanism is and how common it is/has been? Also the differences between that and what most folks in this thread practice. I'm not very informed yet, but I always thought they are different beliefs.
Thanks

Paganism (so many paths are considered pagan in essence) and Satanism are entirely different courses. At first glance Satanism would seem to be "followers of Satan" but I don't really think this is the case. I think it's more an attitude but I'm not really sure, though it's recognized as an organized religion. Google "Anton Zander LeVay" He founded the church back in the 60-70's I think...
Now so is Wicce a religion, though it only dates back to th 1950s. It used to not be so complicated but now a days everytime you turn around someone is coming up with some new agey stuff...
Bottom line to your question though.... Paganism is a path, an old path that encompasses many different religions or spirituality's, new and old alike. Used to be anything that wasn't Christian was Pagan. (Constantine changed all that but that's a lesson in history)
Satan is a manmade entity (demons not withstanding). The image of the horned devil was directly taken from the Horned God of Pagandom.. Pan, Faunus, Baphomat, etc...
A case of the gods of the old religion becoming the devils of the new...
The (cliche'd) Devil does not exist for most of the posters in this thread. We don't believe in his existence nor do we believe in the possibility of a Hell. Plain and simple, to me it's just a scare tactic that I've never fell for ~lol~
There really is a lot to the history of Paganism. People have devoted years and lifetimes to it's study... Goes back to the stone age.
Anyway, in it's definition, yes Satanism could be considered a Pagan path simply because it is not Xtian but Pagans or Wiccans do not believe in th Xtian devil so back to my first paragraph, I don't think Satanists worship Satan only an ideal of lifestyle
Now you're really confused, right?
