Pagan Corner

Greetings all...

I don't mean to interrupt but could someone explain to me in simple terms what Satanism is and how common it is/has been? Also the differences between that and what most folks in this thread practice. I'm not very informed yet, but I always thought they are different beliefs.

Thanks

:)
Hi Rumi, Glad you asked and aren't just assuming we are all lumped together.

Paganism (so many paths are considered pagan in essence) and Satanism are entirely different courses. At first glance Satanism would seem to be "followers of Satan" but I don't really think this is the case. I think it's more an attitude but I'm not really sure, though it's recognized as an organized religion. Google "Anton Zander LeVay" He founded the church back in the 60-70's I think...

Now so is Wicce a religion, though it only dates back to th 1950s. It used to not be so complicated but now a days everytime you turn around someone is coming up with some new agey stuff...

Bottom line to your question though.... Paganism is a path, an old path that encompasses many different religions or spirituality's, new and old alike. Used to be anything that wasn't Christian was Pagan. (Constantine changed all that but that's a lesson in history)

Satan is a manmade entity (demons not withstanding). The image of the horned devil was directly taken from the Horned God of Pagandom.. Pan, Faunus, Baphomat, etc...

A case of the gods of the old religion becoming the devils of the new...

The (cliche'd) Devil does not exist for most of the posters in this thread. We don't believe in his existence nor do we believe in the possibility of a Hell. Plain and simple, to me it's just a scare tactic that I've never fell for ~lol~

There really is a lot to the history of Paganism. People have devoted years and lifetimes to it's study... Goes back to the stone age.

Anyway, in it's definition, yes Satanism could be considered a Pagan path simply because it is not Xtian but Pagans or Wiccans do not believe in th Xtian devil so back to my first paragraph, I don't think Satanists worship Satan only an ideal of lifestyle

Now you're really confused, right?

their Pagan origins.
When official Satanism began and why they use the Pagan symbol of a five point star (the body) is unknown to me. e.[/COLOR]

I'm not sure either but I think it may have to do with the actual points of the pentagram itself... Picture the points, Earth, Air Fire, Water and Spirit. Spirit being the top pointing towards the cosmos. It says spirit into spirit, invert it and it says spirit into matter...

And that is what the idea of Satanism embraces, an almost existentialist viewpoint. A materialistic sense of "I am at the Center of the Universe"

And the truth be told I hold true to that same principle but the difference lies in I believe in my connectivity and communion with everything. Not just in a singular way...

Thank you for the insight.

I think Paganism really gets a bad rap and one that's completely undeserved. It's even worse when it gets confused with something else.

Your words always have such meaning and truth to them. We are all connected. Some just more than others.

Another question up for grabs....

What is the Pagan view/opinion on suicide?

Has anyone ever heard of a 'contractual suicide' in the beliefs of Satanism? I saw a reference to it describing it as an act to confirm a reincarnation as a more powerful being.....close?

I've never seen this one before. Just found it in a search with the sixth point and a center horn. Usually its the head and the downward pointing star instead of our upright star which does represent the elements as well as the body of man.

Getting high on ether rocks maaaann... ;)

The image they are using is that of Baphomet. Here's a link that gives the history... Whether or not this was an actual god to the olde religions or not I can't say but Eliphas Levi apparently used the figure to represent something...

Of course The Golden Dawn and that brand of occultism is far in the future compared to old time village paganism...

But obviously this was just the kind of image that Christianity would use to their advantage

And as a sidenote The Ryder/Waite Tarot deck uses this image as the Devil Card

A Pagan healer has the same attitude on suicide as a modern doctor does now. When the patient is truly at death's door, there are humane ways to gently put a person to permanent rest. Modern doctors generally use morophene but there are similar herbs.

Anytime a healthy person is considering suicide and is open or verbal about it they are seeking reaction and attention in my opinion, and they need a lot of special attention by those that care. If someone really wanted to split the planet they would just flat out kill themselves easily. If someone manipulates someone else to kill themselves its murder.

As far as I know there is no belief in Paganism that a self-inflicted death creates an automatic and immediate reincarnation, though that philosophy is commonly heard from those who believe in reincarnation.

Many aspects of dark witchcraft are celebrated in Satanism as well as it becoming a fashionable symbol garb for trendy Punks. The whole dark Goth Rocker thing has hurt true Paganism and now many people associate us (good Pagans) as being one with that group.
That's what I call the 'hijack from hell'.

Ceremony

Noho, come down!
Leave the moss, the high rocks
you love. See, we are sick.
Sick from loss.
Sick from theft.
Sick from the poison
in our eyes. You know us,
shambling uncle, in our foolishness
and our pride. We stand
when we should bow, we feast
when we should sow. See our ribs,
our bloody knuckles. Our medicine
is smoke that slips through fingers,
songs that tear in the breeze.
From broken knees
we cry; teach us a new ceremony
with cedar and steam. Peel this skin
of lies and heal us
in your earthen lodge.

HI!!

So on the 20th I'm going to be with a new, larger group than I've been with before and they're doing a clothing optional all women's ritual. I've been asked to bellydance for one part and plan to stay totally dressed. Should I do sword this time? That seems kind of overdone, but maybe not to this group. Tell me what you think I should emulate in this dance fo the season. :)

PS ~ no men sucks sorta but I understand I guess

Because violets are the first wild blooms of spring...

Just Lovely Sweets...

I wrote this up last year missing home and the first flowers of spring that bloom in Montana.

Mountain Bluebell's Ring
Stirred By The Spring Breeze
Hypnotical Mother Nature's Sweet Melody Sings
Across This Land Known By Some
As Great Big Sky Country

Stirring the Spirts in Kings Valley
Painted Dessert Of Past Chiefs Stir
The drums Begin to Beat
As the Native Ancestor's Exhale
The Fragrence of Life

Stomping Their Feet to Rythmic
Chant's of The Drums Heart Beat
Figures Dancing Mystically in Sandstone
Ancient Painted Schemes Forgotten
Yet Still known By the Way
The Bluebell's Frangrance Blows

Good Morning Image, Gypsy, and all......

The Spring Equinox, Alban Eilir, located in the East, represents the time of Reception - Reception of Wisdom, as we face the dawn rays of the rising sun on the first morning of Spring. The East has always been associated with Wisdom and Enlightenment, because it is from the East that the sun rises. And it is on the Spring Equinox that it rises due East. At this time we can open ourselves to wisdom and the powers that can bring clarity to us.

Hope this helps Dear GW... :rose:

Thank you dahling. This suggests a large frame drum for the prop representing the sun. Perfect!
They will play drums and jingles for me which I prefer over canned music. Don't think I'll bring my five y/o though this time, but she enjoys participating in ritual. This event is also a fundraiser for RAWA, the Revolutionary Association of the Women of Afghanistan.
