Online Safety Act (UK)

So is anyone having issues accessing restricted sites that were previously unrestricted (Pornhub etc)?
Yes and while I’m not in favour of having to bow to these flawed and draconian rules, if that is what I have to do then I will, however, as of today, pornhub is not redirecting me to an age verification page, when I click on the “check my age” button, I’m taken to a page inviting me to set up an account instead. Upon trying this, it just goes into a loop. Has anyone else experienced this?

Yep, that's what I get

Oh, you're right. I didn't directly click to play the audio.

Wow, that's really weird. Though TBH, it's a better compromise than no site access at all.

Though far from ideal!

The thing I'm struggling with the most with is that I deliberately set my account up here to have as little trace back to me as possible.

If I have to verify myself how can I guarantee that information won't end up in some techno fascist database? Yes Europe has strict laws about personal info but Lit is a US based company so who would process and verify us and store that data?

And then could we be assured that information would be completely removed upon closing our accounts?

I love Lit and don't want to leave but my ability to remain totally anonymous here is extremely important to me.
Same here - the biggest fear most people have is they do not want their actual details exposed and the last thing you want is to be entering your actual details.

I would have no problem with this if I trusted the security of the data, but we all know ten seconds after this system goes into effect some government weasel will go to the company with a subpoena: "You know all that private data? Give it to us right now." I have zero confidence in either Big Tech or Big Government. Honestly, I'm questioning the whole future of the internet at this point.

They haven't removed the illustrations from stories that have them though.

And I don't think the cam site is blocked.

Maybe that's gong to happen?

Cya honey

Does anyone know if this will affect UK based users?

https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/articles/ceq7ye3q2zwo

It's coming into force next week with the aim of making it harder to access adult content. Since Lit includes adult content (not just stories either), I am assuming it will. I don't know how this works or if sites and site owners are obliged to do something or be locked out for UK users. I've no idea how that woudl even work.

How will the uk make any out of country sites comply?
Since most use vpns, how would they even know they are uk users?
I can see it working with digital service providers within the uk, but outside I can see holes one could drive a truck through.
The other problem is privacy and data protection, if digital id services are used, there will be lovely databases for data breaches.
Most importantly, the criminals the act is aimed at will just find a way around it.

Out of UK sites that don't comply would presumably just get blocked here. The whole thing is ridiculous, regardless of intention

Lit will have to comply. Reddit made an announcement this week that they will be adding this.

Lit will also have to comply with the Local State Age Verification laws.
How will they comely and what local state age verification laws will they have to comply with beyond what they already do?

Twice the United States has tried to interrupt the internet in the Us for a test public service announcement, the last time was during the Obama administration. Both times failed.
I’m very curious how they’re gonna block anything. Unless they can get all the ISPs in the UK to go along with them. This would mean that all the ISPs would have to monitor all costumer content to make sure that everything was above board.

The government will just withdraw licenses from ISP's that don't comply

I'm fairly sure certain states block porn sites like Pornhub
