Online Safety Act (UK)

No not a problem but I'm just curious about your viewpoint as it's the UK online safety bill meant to safeguard the underage community and you've took it into a tailspin.

I think it shouldn't be regulated.

I think that anything the government tries to regulate will get corrupted and eventually do the opposite of which it was meant to do.

I think having to give personal biometric or ID's will result in tons of personal information getting hacked and released (See TEA app that happened a few days ago).

I think it's the parent's job to teach their kids not to seek this information out, or keep them from accessing it, rather than pushing regulation on it.

I think a government trying to force another country's companies to do something is wrong.

I think that the censorship and control they are trying to put, is so they can force Digital ID so they can watch every move you do, and shove a credit score system on you, so if you looked at porn you suddenly can't hold a job or can't use your payment systems anymore, or your travel is restricted.

I think there's already regulations regarding adult material and those not following it can easily be tracked by the government and shut down.

I think the UK wants to do more of what Germany is doing, and if you say a naughty tweet they will arrest you, rather than dealing with real criminals.

I think the UK wants to shut down the migrant conversations and facts where 90% of crime/rape/child trafficking comes from Arab Muslims from other countries they let in.

I think this is about control, not safety.

I think they couldn't convince everyone through normal means, the marketplace of ideas, or even the free market so they have to force it by putting a gun to your head.

I think this whole thing, is a bad idea.

There's my thoughts.

I think so far as the UK is concerned it was passed with the best of intentions but, as has already been observed, the danger of overreach is ever present.

I question that, but if so, that makes it even worse.

For 30+ something years there's muslim/Pakistan grooming and rape gangs that have affected thousands of children that they could have protected, they instead protect the rapists and shut down any conversation or attempt to fix the problem....

And you think they are passing a bill in good faith with good intentions?

Pressing X multiple times to doubt.

Check out ‘cyber waffle’ for the latest news for the UK clampdown.

‘The children’s wellbeing and school bill’ is presently being legislated to require ID to be required to use VPNs.

So giving up your identity looks like is going to be unavoidable very soon.

Well the US government is suing and fighting back, and X/Twitter is fighting back, as well as Australia (of all places). And due to the loose definitions the EU did, Wikipedia requires verification to use (which is stupid).

On the other hand several US states have introduced bills to do the same thing.

We've also seen a couple sites have security leaks which is probably more problematic.

In a perfect world, porn and adult content should be treated like cigarettes and alcohol, let kids grow up. But a parent that buys a M rated war game for their kid bypasses any restrictions the rating was suppose to give in the first place. So it's ultimately a parental/raising problem and not (quite as much) a content problem.

I would say ultimately if the site isn't hosted or in the jurisdiction of the EU i'd just ignore it. If the EU starts fining you, flip them the bird.

This issue has ALWAYS been a parent/parenting problem, never a "dirty books" problem. But parents hate taking responsibility for their spawn. It's easier to make the rest of us suffer.

I think that's pretty much spot on.

We had nearly 30 years of a free Internet and we're now seeing the slow death of that.

Pakistani/Muslims offend at lower rates than white people as a percentage.

The "online safety bill" is an excuse to censor us. It was used almost immediately to block footage of anti illegal immigration protests outside of asylum hotels where sexual assaults had occurred to some of the local populace.

Add that to Digital ID which was announced almost simultaneously across the west using a myriad of different excuses, ours was to stop illegal migration but it didn't explain exactly how!

Then we are to lose jury's in all cases except rape and murder, essentially having a state appointed judge to tell you if you are guilty, and bearing in mind our judicial system has already been weaponised against us we are heading down a communist path in the UK.

CBDC isn't far off, as our government is crashing our economy fast!

Then a proxy war with Russia that the UK and EU want!

We are in Orwell's 1984!
