One Step Forward....Several Steps Back

Ignore?

I voted against Prop 8 here in Califorina not because I support Gays but because I think every one is povided equal rights under the Constition.

I also believe that Churches do a lot of good, feeding the poor, helping orphans, supporting thier members in the hour of thier grief.

I also believe that when the Church(s) get involved with politics and try to tell others (those not in thier churchs), what to do they overstep thier boundries.

I ask why does the Government give a shit about who marries whom? The government is there to keep the peace and provide an avenue to achieve the persuit of happiness, not to direct the morals of the nation.

If electricity comes from electrons, does morality come from morons?

I am a lot more concerned that Nancy wouldn't allow GWB to be impeached for using his office to start an unnecessary war, thereby draining our Treasury, than I am about Same Sex Marriage.

So I say fuck who every you like as long as they like it too.

Just remember when they come for me and my guns, when the Jack Booted Nazi Bastards come for my neighbor because of his "agricultural bounty", or your neighbor because of his opposition to "corporatisim". We are all in the same boat. We have to beat the Government in to plowshears, otherwise they will spend our money on Mach 3 fighters that will never do anything constructive.

OK, Ok, bad analogy, just beat the Government anyway.

You are so assinine. The Constitution doesnt protect every goddamned combination and permutation of silliness asshats can imagine.

Marriage is an ancient institution ordained and supported by every culture I know of. Queers are just queers; theyre like hermits or men who live their mothers or nuns or prison lifers. Theyre an asterisk. Theyre something you have to explain to your kid when she asks: WHY IS THAT FUCK TARD PRANCING AROUND THE MAGIC KINGDON IN HIS UNDEROOS?

Hey, Jimmy Blow Job:
Marriage is what you say it is, but it varies tremendously from one culture to another. In some places, polygamy or polyandry are practiced and in some places, arranged marriages are the norm. Some brides and some grooms are still pre-teenagers and in some places, grooms buy their brides, and in some, it is the opposite. It used to be normal for brothers and sisters to marry, and some places see nothing wrong with first cousins being husband and wife.

What I am saying is that, with all the variety of what constitutes marriage, why should CA be afraid to explore new territory? The state is known for being in the forefront of new ideas.

And, as everybody else on the forum says, Why do you care, anyhow?

You guyyyyssss.. she whined....

You either embrace democracy or you dont. The majority of voters said 'FUCK YOU and your gay marriage'.

Now, you have a choice. You can try to convince me to change my mind about gay marriage, convince me that youre not the perv I think you are, or you can piss me off and I'll find another way to fuck you on some other issue. Its not personal, but I have things I want and your team usually opposes me. Or your team can send me a significant donation to influence my thinking.

let me know

I'm in favor of democracy but I'm even more in favor of people doing their own thing, as long as they are not hurting anybody. So far as I can see, there is nobody being hurt when people who want to enjoy the closeness of marriage are free to do so.

I don't really give a shit what you think, I just like to express my own opinion.

If he's ever had one of those, he's paid for it. Cut him some slack.

Honestly, I'm enjoying having him on Ignore so much, I'm beginning to find him as entertaining as he thinks he is. Seeing him pop up on the page with increasing frequency - while getting fewer and fewer of the reactions he craves - is like watching a kid try to sustain an exhausting tantrum.

An unsustained erection?

Democracy is okay as long as it upholds personal freedom. Liberty trumps equality and democracy, every time.

Spoken like a true white male.

Oh, so, you would sacrifice freedom for the sake of equality, as if equality is the most important value and an end in itself. Government exists for one primary purpose: to preserve personal freedom. Everything else is secondary or tertiary.

You've obviously never had to fight to be equal. Like I said, spoken like a true white male.

Stunningly ignorant of what it's like. I truly thought better of you than this.

So it's better to enslave everyone so that they're all equal? How does that make sense? It doesn't. Stop and think. There are those who value equality over freedom: they're called Communists. And I have seen their handiwork, and want nothing to do with them.

As one who did fight to be equal, as you say: did you fight to be equally free or equally servile?

Why take such easy offense to my philosophical hierarchy of values, when I haven't demonstrated a desire to reduce anyone to inequality? I just don't want to take away the inalienable rights of life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness in the name of equality.

*pat pat*
Don't worry, Sev, you'll never notice the difference.

Do us a favor though? There are responsibilities that go along with freedoms; the responsibility to remember and honor other people's freedoms. A biiiig strooong boy like you might step on someone smaller and weaker just by an accident of freedom. Lets just practice not doing that, for a while. okay?

it isn't servility, it's good manners. :)

I'm not trying to step on anyone. I'm just trying to exercise my own personal freedom. And the occasion which brought the issue up is a case in point, where liberty and equality necessarily go hand in hand. It's a case where the rule of the majority mob violates both, in the form of superstitious suppression of minority rights. Or is the minority not equal in rights and liberty to the majority?

Don't patronize me. I'm making a case against majoritarian tyranny, and yet you and Cloudy have to attack me for my stance against said tyranny.

you and Cloudy have to attack me for my stance against said tyranny.

oh, bullshit.

What you're advocating is pure unadulterated selfishness. Your liberty to do what you like before my equality to even have a life.

I really did expect better of you, but then, I'm beginning to wonder why.

Or is the minority not equal in rights and liberty to the majority?
Ah that is a good question. from my side of the fence-- nuh-uh. And, because of whatever my personal makeup is, I would curtail a majority freedom that benefited me, if it infringed on a minority's freedom. But most majorities don't see it that way.

And when you start making wierd baying noises, my dear, about "servility" and shit-- it sounds a lot like being a good little darky, yanno? Sounds like you're going to save us from whatever poor little minority bad habits of uncle-tomism you *think* we have, or might have, or should have. Not only is this unnecessary on account of you are speaking to very intelligent and strong-willed people, but it's well, insulting. Patronising.

Stoopit.

I'm sorry if you feel misunderstood. Try re-writing and making your meanings more clear.

Nonsense. Does your equality require others to be censored, jailed, exiled to gulags? Does your equality require deprivation of the equal rights of others, or are some people more equal than most? Does your equality require a police state, or the intrusion of government tax collectors into the personal, private deals of one's finances and daily life?

If not, then how am I advocating selfishness? I want the same rights for all, including people who have my blood pressure going through the roof of late. Not just for me. I want the inalienable rights of which Jefferson spoke, which were written into the Declaration of Independence and the Constitution of the United States.

There? Simple enough for even the peasants with pitchforks to grasp what I meant by liberty trumping equality. I meant not deporting people to slave labor and imposing rationing, bread lines, secret police, censorship, show trials, etc. in the name of equality.

How is that oppressive of me?:eek:
