The Russian anthem is the old USSR anthem, and I think one of the most moving pieces of music I have ever heard.

The Australian anthem "Advance Australia Fair" isn't good enough and sounds as if it had been written by a committee.

"Waltzing Matilda" is a much better anthem but C J Dennis' "Austral-bloody-aise" would be much more appropriate for such a sporting nation.

I know I shouldn't say, but 'God save our...' is a bit of a dirge, alright for state occasions, but 'Jerusalem' inspires more patriotic feelings in my breast. We used to sing it at my old school in morning assembly.

La Marseillaise, always gets me going, a national anthem that really stirs the blood. :catroar:

Thanks, Og. Now I have Waltzing Matilda running through my brain incessantly. :)

So do I! Okay, everybody: "Waltzing Matilda...Waltzing Matilda...."

I still remember the old East German national anthem. It always gave me chills.

I guess it's for rent now. Togo? Burundi? You guys interested?
