White walls, white cabinets, and green marble countertops. What color (or colour for the canucks) of tile for the kitchen floor? Don't be shy people. SaintPeter needs your help here.

a vanilla color, like caramelly tan. It'll bring in the warm tones of the green and it won't be a bitch to clean <white>

Why, green and white, of course!

I am worried that more green and white may be overkill. The coutertops are a swirly with lots of different greens so a match may be tough as well.

Break some legs :)

Caramelly tan? What the hell is that spose to mean?

This may sound kinda strange, but I would add some eggplant colored tiles to break up the monotony of all green and white.

Trust me...do NOT use green grout...whatever you do. It never looks clean.

You could go with white...and introduce a third colour mixed in...maybe that sunflower yellow. That way it gives you more options for other things in the kitchen.

Yeah!! I think that would look great. Not many choices in eggplant tile.

This is a home depot thread. I'm bailing.

Porn is better. :)

Bob Vilia at ya both ways.

Go with the terra cotta tile look or get a warm earthy oak color floor. Ever check out bamboo or cork floor tiles? Kinda pricey but damn near indestructible & great to walk on. Functional too as neither one soaks up stains.

You need something to soften that green & white thing; bring some nature back in. It's a kitchen- add some warmth & I don't mean crank up the burners on the stove either!

I have oak flooring in my kitchen. It is much warmer than tile unless you plan on putting a heating unit under it. Also, it doesn't crack or chip if you drop something on it. As it gets older, it still looks nice and can be refinished.

I like this one best.

You could also go with wood.

hiya, Perky!
I like this one best to introduces third color as well....however I would also agree on the earthy look of terra cotta (sp)...LOL I am a while you were out and trading spaces slut so I know this would good seem them do it enough times :nana:

My wife has been a degreed and professional interior designer for 20 years. I gave her your question.

She said, that a lot depends on the flooring in the rooms around the kitchen, since "transitions" are important. If you have tile in adjacent rooms, then go with hardwood or Pergo (fake hardwood) in the kitchen. If you have wood floors in adjacent rooms, then go with tile (she recommends terra-cotta paver tiles). If you have carpet in adjacent rooms, then you can chose either.

We have mostly terra-cotta paver tiles for floors on our ground floor. The master bath and my office have walnut hardwood floors and the kitchen has walnut Pergo flooring. The Pergo looks great and handles the trafic and moisture of the kitchen better than hardwood. It's also a bit cheaper.

Just some additional input.
