Thank you for your insight, Sir Scouries. I was sitting here wondering about lists myself.

I wondered how many winners of contest stories appear on the 30 day, 12 month, and all time most read story list? Do you know? To be honest, I haven't noticed any. Have you?

Presently, my Siblings Get Naked for Nude Day, by SuperHeroRalph, is the 2nd most read story in 30 days and will soon be the most read story in 30 days. How about that?

My story Spending My Summer Stripping My Mom, by AndTheEnd, is the 10th most read story in all of 2011 and will soon be the 5th most read story in all of 2011. Not bad, for a hack like me, huh?

My story, I Love You Mommy, by WmForrester, the most read story in all of 2010, is presently the 163rd most read story of all-time and still climbing. That's pretty good considering that there are more than 50,000 writers here and more than 3 million stories posted on this site.

I, as BOSTONFICTIONWRITER, would have had two stories in the top 5 all-time most read stories, had I not pulled them to publish them.

The amazing thing to me, is that I've never won a contest. How about that? Don't you find that interesting? What does that tell you? It tells me that the contests here are not a fair judge of good stories or of writers' talents. It tells me that contests here are more popularity contests than they are writing contests. Don't you find that to be true, too?

Let's see, lemme think, would I prefer winning a monthly or theme contest or would I prefer that my stories remain on the most read lists for all to see? I think the latter over the former. The proof that my stories are good has nothing to do with red H's, or the scores, or blue W's on my pages, but the numbers of those who read them.

I welcome your comments, so long as they are not insane ramblings. Perhaps, you can take your happy pill and write something that makes sense, so that we all can understand and not need a psychiatrist to explain your meaning.

Poor scouries. He beats dead horses with glee and then complains because he used to small a scale. Maybe he should try making that comparison with the full 250 favorite author list. He might find that half the entrants are on it.

Oh and by the way numbnut, learn the differences between a chapter and a series. Memories of our First Nude Day uses the same characters as all the rest of the stories in the series but the stories are not related in the least.

I think what Scouries is trying to promote are stories using all brand new characters. This is really not required, but he is trying to convince people it is.

Why all this animosity? I enter contests to get more views on my stories in hopes that more people will follow my work. If I win, great, but if not, I'm not going to pitch a bitch over it. 16 submissions in six years since joining this site, I didn't know it was a race?

You're right. There should be no animosity. We're all doing what we love to do, writing stories.

Yet, there are those malcontents who bash our stories, ruin our scores, and take away the hard work we did with creating the story and developing that characters to make sure that we don't win a contest.

This site could be a beautiful thing, if we writers were just left alone to write without all the drama and all the bullshit. Any time there's money involved, there's greed and maniuplation. Even if they removed the prizes from contests, we'd still have those others with mental problems bashing our stories.

It's not about winning a contest with me. It never was. It's more about writing a better story and becoming a better writer. Only, we're not left alone to do that.

This is the part where we all hold hands and sing...naked.

Every year, a local amateur writers' club has a story and poetry competition. The prizes are minimal. The first prize for either a story or poem is 25 pounds, the second 10 pounds and the third 5 pounds. They don't even produce a certificate for the winner who is handed a cheap envelope containing the cash.

Yet the drama, backbiting, lobbying and attempted bribery are so rancorous that they have to import a non-local panel of judges. Most of the judges will never return after their first year because they find the whole event so distasteful.

I am blackballed from the club because as an outsider, unaware of the history of the competition, I entered a story and a poem. I achieved third place with the story and third place with the poem. That year the judges were not told anything about the entrants, only reading the submissions.

The first announcement, that I had won third in the poetry contest, caused audible gasps. The second announcement - loud booing.

No one who was not a long standing member of the club had ever won a prize before, and no one had ever won a prize in both contests. I am now banned for being a "professional" because I subsequently won a fourth place in another local contest.

In retrospect, neither my story nor my poem were particularly good, but they were different.

Contests can bring out the worst in some people.

Thanks for sharing. Somehow that made me feel better knowing that human nature is alive and well, even in jolly old England.

Oggman Contests can bring out the worst whining in some people.

You’re so right oggie! And there are other people who are so wishy-washy, so eager to curry favor, that any kind of moral leadership they attempt to provide is met with disdain. A THREADMASTER standing for absolutely nothing is exactly that – nothing.

Surprise, surprise mr kroman, everyone enters contests to attract new readers and to get more views (both for the contest story and future stories the author may write).

And it works if everyone plays fair. It works if everyone considers their peers when they decide how many stories to enter in the contest. But my friend it doesn’t work if everyone acts like our spoiled brat.

Here’s two scenarios to consider:

One: What if just 25 of LITEROTICA’S 35,000 authors decided to do what little ralphie, the idiot from beantown, does? What if 25 authors entered 30 stories in every contest? The contest story list would end up with 800 or so entries – how many more views or attention do you think you’d get if your story was one of 800?

Two: What if every author decided to enter ever story that they had ready to submit to the site during the contest period directly into the contest like our whiner does? There’s nothing to stop them. In this case your story would be one of 1500-2000 contest stories.

We all know what would happen. There’d be an outcry … the QUEEN (if she could be found) after weeks of waffling would issue a rule change banning the practice. And then, for the next year or so, sanity would return to the contests.

But why should we allow one person to get away with a practice that what would be disallowed for the many?

Why should we allow one old man, a greedy, bitter soul, to steal views from all of us while chasing readers away with his unedited, unreadable stories?

We shouldn’t!

And simply ignoring the problem is the losers way. It’s not my way…

*Sigh*

Then present that as an argument for limiting the number of contest stories to Laurel. I do believe she asked for good reasons to do so.

Most of us have no problem contacting Laurel when we have questions. She's but a PM away, and usually answers quite promptly.

Of course, most of us aren't posing as forum moderators, falsely claiming to be contest moderators, saying that she's rigging the contests, claiming to be paid royalties on a free site...

Could have something to do with the lack of response you receive.

Never mind. I'll just post a poll.

GO FUCK YOURSELF, SCOURIES!

This site would be a better site, a writers' site if every writer, all 50,000 writers entered multiple stories in every contest.

For once, contests would be fair. Winners would be different every contest.

As it is now the lack of participation in contests is pathetic. If it wasn't for me writing 25% of the stories, there'd be nothing to read.

Seriously, have any of you read some of the fucking stories in any of these contests.

Let me analyze them for you.

They suck. They are terrible and that includes most of the winning stories.

The same fucking writers win the contests over and again.

Let's have a rule that you can only win one contest and that's it...forever, Dark.

I know, what about this rule? Let's just ban me from writing stories.

I dare you. Go ahead. Present that idea to Laurel and see how far you get.

Maybe you should start a poll asking if AndTheEnd, BOSTONFICTIONWRITER, CarBuffStuff, PostiveThinker, WmForrester, and SuperHeroRalph should be banned forever because he writes too many fucking stories on a story site, you fucking moron.

May you choke on your hot dog tomorrow, otherwise, have a pleasant afternoon.

Karma. Does this kind of disparity and disparaging happen on other threads? Or is it isolated to contest-related topics?

I'm starting to realize why so many are in favor of the iggy button. Much ado about nothing, yet the back and forth just gets more convoluted.

Anywhere scouries appears. Political threads. Beyond that, it's actually pretty rare.

It even happens on writerly threads, although not as strongly. See the current thread about Endangered Punctuation.

Nude Day Story, I'm An Asshole

superheroralphie whine … whine … whine…

Little ralphie it wasn’t rejected because it wasn’t a story (which it isn’t) or because of bestiality (which it doesn’t describe) or for being unedited (which isn’t a crime here) … no, instead it was rejected because it breaks Themed contest Rule 15 – c –i which states: We will not accept individual chapters of a larger work submitted separately.

And of course we’ve all heard the prior chapters to this whining ‘supposed’ story before. Ad nauseum.

“It’s a story site and I love writing”

“They stole all my h’s”

“How dare I write so many stories on a story board?”

“Writing is my passion”

“but every time I receive a red H, bashers come along and erase my red H's”

Crap like this story (and the fifteen others you’ve entered so far in this contest) are the reason the LITEROTICA THEMED CONTESTS have fallen so low. You can moan and whine all you want but you can’t hide from the fact that you’re the problem.

And you know what ralphie? You could fix it in a sec. Just stand up and say,

“okay, I was a jerk and I was just entering all those stories in contests to fuck them up because I was bitter about losing SURVIVOR. But I’ve grown up and I’m not going to do that anymore. I’m sorry. From now on I’m only going to enter one or two stories in each contest and the rest through normal channels.”

Why don't you relax for a day? Wander down to Frog Pond and lie on the grass and watch all the sweet young things sunbathing on their lunch hours. Honestly ask yourself why you've been doing what you've been doing.

Get laid man! Go out and hire a $1000 call girl for the afternoon. Then ask yourself again.

You can do it! It’s up to you. How do you want to be remembered? As a crybaby? Or as a man?

Lets all put scouries on ignore and get back to the things that should be in this contest thread.

He's only here to cause hate and discontent, which he does very well. He can't win a contest so he is out to destroy the contests. he has already run off a lot of people. His hate for Lit and the contests because he can't win one with the crap he writes is the most destructive thing here. If you don't "get" that then... Maybe he needs to win by destroying everything. Your choice.

I already have.

Is scouries here by any chance? :D

Hi Tx :rose:

Ok, I've entered a third story. 'A Man In Turmoil' Only there's probably not enough nudity for some. I have nude beach and a few paragraphs where there is a Wet T-shirt contest or two. haha.

Wasn't going to enter it in the contest but I do have the nude beach scenes. I like the quick posting instead of waiting three to five days.
Good luck all, I'm no threat, just having fun.
With Respect
