Nude Day 2011 Contest Support Thread

I know this question has been asked answered repetively, so please bear with me. I'm in the middle of cleaning the house for company and brainstorming Summer Lovin'. This is just easier.

I realize that we can't submit individual chapters of a larger work. Has to be stand alone.

Can you submit a story that has repeat characters from a previous story? I think that has been done, but want to make sure. I'm thinking of bringing back my ~Summer Spirit~ characters from last year's Summer Lovin' contest. Would that be acceptable? It'll mark my one year anniversary of contest entries and might be nice way to complete that particular circle.

Thanks! :cattail:

The yo-yo score has sort of stabilized now that it is nearing a hundred votes. Or at least the yo to yo ratio has narrowed. :D

I don't see why not. That's actually creative writing. Do it and we'll see if it passes.

I entered five with overlapping characters (the "Second" series) to the Christmas contest a couple of years ago, and they were accepted (and did well).

As long as they are standalone stories there should not be a problem. The rule is for chaptered stories. My story in this contest, Memories of our First Nude Day is one part of a five part series. Both the main characters are used in all five with no problems. All five stories are memories of my second marriage and are for the most part true. Other than the characters they have no real connection.

TxRad: I second D_Lynn sentiments. Dammit, I need to sleep! LOL

Uh, thank you also.

I grabbed a few hours sleep as I've been called in to work on very short notice. I was supposed to be off another week or so.

See you guys in about three weeks or so if the Internet service on this job is on par with the last three or four.

Sorry you got so little sleep. Hope that doesn't interfere with the job. The need for sleep was because your story got me all hot and bothered. ;)

Fixed!

For anyone who thought my entry was creepy, I have rather mitigated the creep factor in the revision that went live. I had meant for this to be lighthearted smut, and I fear my attempt at being subtle instead came across as sinister.

I also went and put it in the sci-fi/fantasy category rather than group sex, just to make obvious the level of suspension of disbelief that I was going for. Sadly, I doubt anyone who was turned off the first time is going to come back and give it a second shot, but...meh. So crumbleth the cookie. :)

Bashfullyshameless, I did not read the first version. But I am slowly working my way through more entries. After I read it, I'd be interested in knowing the creep factor that was removed. Did getting that kind of response when you thought the feel was different take you aback?

The story list is starting to grow!

Luna,

I'll admit that I kind of rushed my story. There were a few things I hadn't considered. A bit factor was simply the age of the protagonists; I wanted them "young," but that was an abstract thing to me in my rush. I have since realized that advancing them a few years makes the story far more palatable.

There was some critical response, some of which I agreed with and some of which I simply didn't, but there was also further discussion with my beta reader. I think it's a much better story now.

Well, in defiance of Scouries, I just submitted my third entry and will be entering a fourth, as soon as I finish it. :)

Four stories? Four contest entries? Are you kidding me?

You know, Box, it's people like you who ruin the contest for everyone else. I agree with Scouries on this one. They should have a one story limit. Just because this is a story site, doesn't mean that you must personal undertake submitting all the stories.

Submitting four stories is just ridiculous. Have you no life? What do you spend your entire day in front of the computer writing?

Now, just because I have 10 stories posted already and plan on submitting, at least, another ten stories has nothing, absolutely nothing, with my point (whatever that is) of you submitting way too many contest stories (lol).

I shall look forward to reading and voting for your offering. Good luck in the contest.

Actually, I have submitted two stories and an essay, and intend to submit another story.

Here's my proposal for future contests:

1. Have the contest entries appear in a special category for contests only. In that way an entry's standing cannot be affected by the popularity of the category assigned to it.

2. Weight the scoring as follows: for the first 50 votes, a 5 point vote is worth 5.0. For the second 50 votes, a 5 point vote is worth 5.1. And so on, for each additional 50 votes, an additional tenth of a point is added to each vote score.

Discuss.

The entries already are on a special category list. That's one of the perqs for entering the contest.

(1) is going to result in a lot of vote blasting due to people opening up stories that make them gag. If your stomach rebels at Incest, do you really want to get halfway through page 1 of a story and realize that bro is about to go down on sis? What if you hate cheating stories? Or fantasy?

It's going to reduce the number of reads due to people not wanting to wade through every story looking for something that they might actually like.

(2) I've covered before. Incest and Loving Wives would dominate any contest, and nothing else would have a chance. The contests would thus end up filled with nothing but Incest and Loving Wives, with a few outliers.

As it stands, categories have advantages and disadvantages, but pretty much every category has a chance to win, and the variety typically covers 4/5ths of the categories.

Maybe they could refrain from including the author name on the story until the contest has ended. I know voting on my stories follows a pattern: Bombs among the first ten or so stories, and a rising score after that. I believe there are some persons who watch the new stories for stuff by me and bomb it immediately.

This would also cause people to vote for a story, rather than the author. I realize many people would be able to recognize a specific author's work fairly quickly, but only if they are already fans.

Of course, after the contest has ended, the names would be added and the entries included on the individual authors' indexes.

The "I'll scratch your back if you scratch mine" (which is a foundation of this thread) folks would share author information via PM and would skew the voting toward their friends rather moving toward erasing the author popularity context.

Omitting author names wouldn't accomplish anything.

Nothing would stop authors from linking their stories here, or in email, etc.

As far as personal trolls, absent any way to identify your story ( exluding them from your author list would be a pain in the ass from a coding standpoint, for one thing ) they would simply bomb anything that they believed could be yours.

End result: No change to cheerleader/friendship fives, more stories get 1-bombs trying to make sure they get yours.
