No lives have been "Saved."

Regardless, they eventually have to leave the house, interact with others who have been interacting.

This concept could have been enacted for every disease anciently and requires zero tech to accomplish. It wasn't used because it doesn't work.

Before there were vaccines, small amounts of live cultures were deliberately pricked into the skin of healthy people to let them develop resistance to the disease. This was known before antibodies were ever discovered.

There will be another wave of the virus. No one that has been hiding has any protection from it. There is no difference between being exposed to the first way of the second wave are any subsequent wave at some point you are going to be exposed. That's how epidemics work.

Putting off the inevitable accomplishes nothing other than saving hospital bed space by spreading out the dates of infections to reduce spikes in demand. Hospitals are empty.

That is precisely what they're "trying" to do and destroying everyone else's life in the process.

This Wuhan Flu will be back this fall and depending on which way it mutates, possibly even deadlier.

NO LIVES HAVE BEEN OR WILL BE SAVED, merely deaths postponed.

Wasn't? Oh really, haven't you read any historical plague story? Of course it was used.

Not a single life has been "Saved" by any shutdown or any other extreme, power grabbing, edict by any politician. Deaths have been temporarily postponed, but no lives saved.

The "pandemic" of '57-'58 killed 116,000 US citizens. Today that would have to translate into 260,000 based on population growth and factoring in the illegal cockroach population. Nobody shut the economy down, no governor ordered how people should conduct their lives. No pansy ass bed wetters panic buying shit they didn't need. The schools didn't close, nor did the churches.

Why oh why can't some lab somewhere come up with a virus that kills power hungry politicians and their bed wetting followers?

Reported? For what? Doing nothing more than many here have done in wishing this Wuhan Flu on others. Hell, and I wasn't even talking about anything that actually exists and/or is a threat to anyone.

Sensitive little bed wetters. :)

Damn but you are being extremely disingenuous today aren't you? the 57-58 influenza pandemic didn't kill for certain that many people. The ESTIMATES for the U.S. were between 70,000 and 116,000 deaths. ESTIMATES FFS not hard numbers. And that was over a two year period.

The number you quoted was for the upper maximum number of deaths. If that's the criteria we're using:

The first case of Corona was here in Washington state January 29th. That was 97 days ago and since then we have lost 71,816 people, or about 740 A DAY. If that keeps up for another 1 3/4 years at half the rate it's killing people now, we'll have another 234,210 people dead or a total of over 306,000. Oh wait, we're using maximums aren't we? So that number will be 468,420 additional deaths or over 540,000.

Yea, Corona ain't shit. So make sure you're out there breathing deeply of all that virus laden air while you're making those billionaires multi-billionaires.

It isn't arithmetic. It's a contagion. All contagions follow Farr's Law. The most immunocompromised succumb first. It's ridiculous to extrapolate the way you are doing it. It becomes increasingly difficult for the virus to find vectors. Eventually every virus runs out of hosts.

No one is projecting even half that in a year, and that assumes better therapies are not developed.

considering the amount of people infected worldwide, your comment about 'run out of hosts" is obviously wrong. and there's not anything close to a vaccine in development right now.

NO LIVES HAVE BEEN OR WILL BE SAVED, merely deaths postponed.

Sure we're all mortal. Death is indeed inevitable. It's all we're talking about, buying a year or two, or twenty. And there's better ways to go than this.

The same ill-informed histrionic nitwits that were wrong weeks ago are still wrong and they're acting like they haven't been wrong about everything that they have predicted.

The goalpost went from flattening the curve to preventing deaths even though no such thing is possible, unless you take a vulnerable person and completely isolate them. Healthy people with no risk factors should be exposed.

You don't even grasp the basics of the difference between an epidemic and a pandemic. The fact that it's worldwide means it runs out of hosts quicker not slower.

You are going to be exposed. Make sure you lay in a supply of your anti-anxiety medication..

i don't like trump or his administration either but that was harsh.

Actually, there's several potential in the works. Two are starting trials and I don't know current status of the third. There were works for thre first SARS that are being repurposed in a hurry. With some luck, there can be a vaccine as soon as in the autumn, or early next year. But no warranty, of course. And the virus can (and do) mutate as well.

The first case of Corona was here in Washington state January 29th. That was 97 days ago and since then we have lost 71,816 people, or about 740 A DAY.

And a significant number of those were already ill and could have died at any time. It's also been reported that a number of the reported deaths are only 'suspected cases' (and may be Medicare fraud) because no conclusive testing is being done.

Simple fact of the matter is, no one seems to know how many have died from this bug and SOLELY from this bug, if any.

And that's a bad thing? You're playing stupid ass word games and that's the most ignorant thing you've said here that I can remember. In actuality what you are saying is the same thing that Dan Patrick has been saying, the older folks need to throw themselves on the fire so others can make money. Ok, you first. Or are you going to follow Patrick's lead and tell everyone to sacrifice themselves while you stay safe and snug?

This is dumb, even for you, Grampa Boxwine.

That's how you keep the vulnerable isolated, by reducing the spread rate among healthy.

Well, with rigorous testing and contact tracing total lockdown wouldn't be such a necessity. To be honest I too thought it was a bit over the top initially. But regardless there's no reason to give up halfway. And know what, yesterday we had zero new cases. Sure, there will be more, it's not over. Previous day there was 17 cases, 7 of them connected in one investigation. (The running total is 896, and 17 deaths. For context, the population is 2 mil, half of whom live in one agglomeration.)

you can't even grasp the basics of conversation. no one was talking about quicker or slower. this is much different that anything we have had to battle so using history as a base isn't going to get us to the promise land.

que just be like that. he regales us with his infinite knowledge of the world and really all people and their own thoughts on a 24-7-365 schedule. it's most likely to be the only job he can hold down.

You went forth and prospered too aggressively. You were ravaging the planet. I had to step in and correct things a bit.

Have you learned your lessons yet? Will you take better care of my playground?

Cocktail hour, 1:00PM.

Wasn’t that long ago I was was having a back an forth with someone and it went south in such a manner I was left wondering if the person peaked with their day drinking and went all incoherent.

so the overall consensus is that bellisarius will not remember making this thread in the morning.

hey hey HEY now, y'all. Enough of this sassin'! Put some respeck on Yappo's name, y'hear?

Yappo is a learned motherfucker, see? He knows all the...the...the heuristics and the...the...the...logistics of all this virus shit. Way more than you or me or or or Carl Sagan or or or Stephen Hawking or or or Bill Nye or or or that stocky negro science dude with the mustache like Issac on Love Boat!

No they don't.

The virus doesn't go away just because you hide from it for a while.

You might have mentioned it earlier, just scanned the thread.

But lives have been saved by social distancing and such since health services weren’t overwhelmed as they could have been if nothing were done. People got help they wouldn’t have otherwise.

But yeah, all that just delays infection, doesn’t inoculate. But that’s the point until a vaccine is available.
