No lives have been "Saved."

Hei. Australia's pm discussed the exit strategy (tapering off lockdown) on Friday, NZ's pm will do it on Monday, and Britain on Sunday.
You guys and Canada too.

How come they're all so coordinated? Yes they started at about the same time, but there are so many variables & the outcomes are surely different.

I'm starting to think conspiracy theories --- like it being driven by markets or stocks or shares or whatever, rather than health.

This has almost nothing to do with "health". It's all about containment.

Many people are going to die no matter what is done unless we have a treatment or vaccine. All the shelter in place orders did was keep the contagion confined to geographical areas rather than allow it to run rampant everywhere unchecked.

The lock down didn't "stop" anything. It only slowed it down to give us time to fight back.

More people are still going to die despite the lock downs. This is reality and something that everyone has to accept. Refusing to accept it doesn't change anything. People are still going to die.

Given that, at what point does the containment effort begin to cause more harm? If serious civil unrest breaks out with the attending violence that goes with it, even more people are going to die than those whose deaths are from CV.

No matter what you do, people are going to die. The question now becomes, what do you do to limit those deaths to a few as possible.

Far, far more than that die every day. Nothing can stop death. It's part of life.

8,000 die per day in the US.

Something needs to be done. Cutting that figure to zero is a reasonable goal.

That's what we need, a "War on Death." Look at all the wars we're fighting. Poverty, Cancer, Racism, Sexism, and I'm sure I've missed a few. So let's kill death off once and for all.

If people stop dying, we'll be up to our ears in people and they'll start killing each other.

and most of those people die despite all medical intervention available to them, people taking precautions (or not) as advised by the usa heath and safety systems... heart attacks, cancer, other fatal diseases, accidents, and simply from old age.

there IS no current medical intervention to prevent one from contracting covid 19 other than social distancing and ppe

once there are vaccines/treatments, this can be treated pretty much the same as any other endemic disease that can cause fatalities... people get the vaccines, do what they can not to catch and transmit it, and trust in medicine to treat them as beneficially as possible if they do get it.

why are people attempting to minimise such a terrible loss of life?

You keep rattling on and on about "precautions." Fine, I agree. But it is NOT the governments job to mandate "precautions" and criminalize those that don't follow same.

Further, it is not governments job to determine what and what is not essential. That is for each and every individual to determine for themselves. If you think otherwise, fine. But NEVER tell me that you live in a free society if you do.

This Wuhan Flu is going to run its course no matter what. Until herd immunity is achieved, or there's a vaccine, those that are vulnerable are going to catch it and many of those will die, government shutdowns and communist style rules or not.

Your notion that the measures taken so far will make a difference are nothing more than wishful thinking.

That's precisely the government's job.
