No, African-Americans are not on any "Democratic welfare plantation"

You know, if it helps/saves just One . . . .

Find the unquoted LBJ "quote" about his cynical view of the voting side "benefit" of his "Great Society" and get back to me on this . . . .

I don't think Elon Musk ever drew a welfare check.
Elonia "Elon" Musk was born into a life of privilege in apartheid South Africa, his father was an emerald dealer and his mother was his father's trophy wife model, albeit she didn't show her ladybits to the general public like Melania did. I daresay his family didn't need a "welfare check"....probably got more in tax breaks.

I think it's probably the last gasp of the Reagan Revolution. At this point most people know trickle down economics theory is horseshit. Now the battle is between people who want to make the USA a better place for everyone, and those who've given up all hope and just wanted to send a "fuck you" to everyone else. The one thing Trump is very good at is giving a voice to the latter camp. But as we've seen time and again, no one else can be Trump.
You lost, own it.

I do recall that when he signed the Voting Rights Act, LBJ said "We [the Democrats] have just lost the South for a generation."

You lost, own it.
Nobody's going to shut up. Or even to be sidelined. This was no realigning election, no Reagan Revolution. The present 50/50 polarization will persist -- until a critical mass of social/cultural/religious conservatives die off -- because, unlike the bizcons, the theocons will not be replaced by younger generations.

You want to hear that song again? Fine, here we go...

FACT: Only one person ever claimed to have heard LBJ say that, and that one person had a long track record of similarly sensationalistic quotes that no one else could back up.

FACT: He claimed to have overheard LBJ make the comment from several feet away on a crowded plane, where it would have been difficult to hear anything clearly.

FACT: He claimed LBJ was talking to two governors at the time. He didn't say which two and it's probably safe to assume they're both dead by now; but records are kept of who flew with the president on Air Force One, and most politicians donate their official papers to some university or archival society. You can't prove a negative, but if someone wanted to prove LBJ really had made the comment, a natural first step would be to figure out who the two governors were and to explore their archives for any mention of the incident (if someone that famous said a thing like that to you, wouldn't you write it down?). The fact that there's no evidence anyone has done that suggests that either people who want to believe the comment is real are afraid to find out otherwise, or someone did try and came up empty.

FACT: Yes, LBJ was indeed a racist by today's standards. But for that very reason, he knew perfectly well that if you wanted to exploit racial divisions for political benefit, the race you wanted in your corner was the most numerous one - that is, whites. (Which is exactly why the Republicans have been appealing to their prejudices ever since the Civil Rights Act was passed.) It makes no sense at all to corner 17% of the population knowing you'll turn large swaths of the other 83% against you. I can see why you'd want to believe LBJ was that dumb, but the record shows he was not. Racist or not, he was also a very shrewd politician - too much so to make such an obvious miscalculation.

In America, winner buys, loser cries!

Cry on! You paid for it. Your right!

You haven't talked to very many Blacks about why they vote the way they do. If any.
I don't care any more. It was nice that some black dudes joined my side. But after generations of crime, misery and awful schools (one of which I attended), they finally care to make a change? Well, that is a bare minimum.
Also, I never talk politics with work colleagues or neighbors. I would get canceled in a moment. So no, I never ask them. Do not care.

I sincerely invite you to come by every so often to update us on your fear of black people and the spine chilling power they could exert over you.

The inner city black lives in a cesspool of their own making. It is cultural and no politician of any stripe can pass any law or write a check big enough to make any meaningful change.

The blacks that have escaped that cesspool generally fall into two categories. The first category are those that think politicians and/or money is going to change things. The second are those that have realized nothing is going to change until such time as those blacks decide to change their culture. This group goes about their lives trying to build on their successes and hoping they'll be a role model.

Every urban city-state, and that is what they are evolving into, needs to have a dedicated camping of 10.

Every ten years 10% of the most decayed neighborhoods should be razed and the cockroaches scattered so that it can be turned over to positive redevelopment and the torts and less can be absorbed and culled where necessary.

There's a plan that will at least shake things up.

Destructive creation, urban renewal/planning.
Those whom mean to rule should demonstrate their ability.

It is just so easy to pick up a stick than it is to grow a carrot. '74 can tell us all about it...

You've made a Lit. career out of being wrong 98% of the time. ^^^^^This post isn't going to improve your average.
Yes, my comment is clearly about me.

Tell me more about those black people.
